I finally brought my new L4060hstc home yesterday. My L3200 got sold off a few weeks ago, enabling me to move up to a cabbed machine with some nice extra toys with a bit more oomph.
The good:
It was in the teens yesterday afternoon & with minimal load, it was warm enough to take off my hat, coat & gloves. I'd have to turn it down if I used it much. It just feels nice to drive & operate. All the controls are well laid out & are easy to operate (except the rear window latch, which is a huge pain to get to when the air ride seat is in it's fully back position). The bigger tires mean 6-8" wide trench with the inside being 3" or so taller that contains the bottom of the barn door is barely a speed bump instead of the noticeable annoying obstacle it was with the L3200. 3pt hitch is noticeably smoother than on the L3200. The fancy 3pt linkage stuff looks cool, but will likely end up being moot. I loved my QH with TnT & I expect that will be more functional (once I get the QH properly moded & the missing TnT installed) than the extendable links & stuff.
The 3 speed transmission sucks as much as every other HST 3 speed I've ever used. Had to spend a minute several times trying to shift & bumping the go pedal & what not to get gears to mesh to shift... Just like every other HST tranny I've ever used. Not quite premium tractor operation, but pretty much standard & apparently reliable. However I'm seeing that I'll likely just leave it in M & use the 2 speed toggle to cover 80% of my needs. I do a fair bit of roading (hence getting the L4060 over the L3560 which couldn't get out of it's own way) so I'll be in high high a bit, probably in low range whenever lifting & loading stuff in/out of vehicles.
They put 1 male & 1 female flat face hydraulic connector up front for the 3rd function. As I haven't started retrofitting my old cheap auction find truck plow to fit the tractor I have no compatibility issues. May as well stick with the skid steere standard & I hate the way ag style connectors puke fluid all over whenever you connect or disconnect them. Have high hopes for these connectors. I was planning on adding in a valve up there & toggling between 3rd function & hydraulically actuated SSQA (retrofit a linear actuator for that on my old machine). Thinking I might just put flat face connectors on the SSQA cylinder & manually swap instead of using a valve or something. We'll have to see.
I like the 6QD stack in back for my 3 spools. Nice & clean looking & I believe setup for 1 handed connect & disconnect (also break free design if there are problems). They are the standard puke on connect & disconnect pack in with dirt & grime ag style though. 4 will probably almost never get used once TnT gets hooked up I'll almost never disconnect them, so not a big deal.
It has a dipstick!!! I absolutely detested the sight glass on my L3200. You could never figure out if you were above or below the sight glass, heck with the crystal clear fluid you could barely even see the line when it was in the middle. Will probably still put in some John Deere red hydraulic dye in the new machine as crystal clear fluid on the dipstick is hard to see, but it's an order of magnitude better than a sight glass.
The bad:
The TnT cylinders and the workshop manual CD weren't in yet. I'm impatient & have installed TnT on my old L3200. I'll likely end up spending the 15 minutes to install it myself whenever they come in. Pain in the *** trying to hitch up my mower to my QH without TnT. Also I hadn't moded my Harbor Freight QH to extend the toplink hook back an inch or so yet (have done that on 3 QHes so far), which caused hitching problems. I'm grumpy I don't have the WSM to tell me the wiring pinout or colors for the radio harness so I can't hook it up yet, despite having an adapter. Nothing terribly bad, or unexpected & could probably have been prevented with more patience & planning on my part, but I only have so much. ;-)
Loader visibility is worse than on my L3200. Trying to hook up to the bucket or pallet forks frame (forks themselves are still in the mail) I can't quite see the outer corners of the loader side SSQA lip, which I could on the L3200. Not a big deal.
The nice cool electronic dash is ran by 1 button. Seriously? You can't afford a knob or a couple buttons? You have to do everything by doing short or long pushes on 1 button? That boggles my mind, such a horrible interface.
There is an on/off toggle button held onto the bottom of the joystick with a hose clamp. You turn it on to then use the left/right 3rd function buttons on the top of the joystick. It works & is the setup described in the manual, but seems a bit ghetto for a premium tractor. I'd rather just have the L/R buttons on all the time.
The grands apparently come with the 2 cab lights standard, but they are just normal halogen bulbs. Enough light to see a bit, but not great. Was already planning on adding or replacing them with a 42" light bar. The rear lights are an
The ugly:
After less than an hour of operation, the loader lift circuit started malfunctioning. It went from normal lift/lower speed to something that would take about 2+ minutes to lift or lower. It was erratic on when that would kick in or not & lifting or lowering. Float always dropped like a rock. Called Front Range Kubota & they are planning on sending out their service truck out around lunch. It's 2wd & we have 2" of snow, so that may be fun. Have some video of the issue, but they are being slow to upload.
No coming home photos, but I did grab a couple of it sitting in it's new home when I went out to get the loader diagnostics video. L4
