I got the bill for the 50 hour service and was I in sticker shock. $$$$$$. I normally do all my own work on cars, motorcycles, & diesel. Guess I'll be adding tractor to list.

Bummer. I negotiated the first service as part of my overall tractor deal (on the 4105)... and they came to me. I observed the whole thing and learnt a lot about my rig; even a couple of grease nipple locations that weren't in the manual!

Very informative. I've done all of my servicing since.

Did you ask for the wash 'n wax, tire shine, and gold plated oil filter?

Give us the details. Did it include transportation also?

I chose to do mine from the onset as my dealer is about 50 miles away. It was a PITA in some respects, mostly due to the crappy manual, but I learned and tried to pass along what I found for my machine. Mine is much like your's only smaller tires and a detuned engine. Otherwise pretty much the same tractor except mines a gear and your's is likely an HST.

What all did you do for your service? My dealer told me to change the oil, the oil filter, and blow out the air filter. That's it.

Some models differ, so it is best to pull out the manual and read up to see what is required. I think your dealer led you astray, because there is more to an initial 50 hour service than that.

You're also supposed to change both fuel filters and the hydraulic filter.
I changed the fuel filters but held off on the hydraulic until about 75 hours then did the filter and the fluid since changing one without changing the others seems pretty silly. The book says to wait to change the hydraulic fluid at 100 but I don't know how you're supposed to do that as when you remove the filter pretty much all of the oil drains out.

Tractors are lots easier to work on than cars. You may need bigger wrenches and bigger oil catch basins but mostly everything is easier to access on a tractor. I don't know about the new tier IV emissions though since none of my tractors have that crap on them.

You got the shaft. It should never have cost $$$$$$, it should have only cost $$$, or maybe $$$$ at the very most.

Gary, don't be telling all of our secrets!

I'm guessing, if the price included a transportation charge, the final bill might have been $200-225.00. The hydro filters aren't cheap, shop labor could be $90-100 per hr.;without transportation charge, maybe $150.

$303.20 including a magnetic block heater put on it labor $90 on top of it pickup/delivery around 50 miles each way was $95 plus tax and total was $533.36 - plus an added $20 tip for the head mechanic who worked on it and expedited it all.. (front wheel seal leak done under warranty and new battery cable ends put on too under warranty for me)

**** that is fair. and yes everything was done - filters, tighten some stuff and fluids, etc....

that is a chunk of change but for all that was done by a pro it was fair.

I hate to give details cause it just looks bad, but I dropped off and picked up. Cost was $435.00. They showed breakdown and every fluid was changed and all filters. They didn't charge labor on first service. Maybe I'm just cheap when comes to others doing work for me. May not been such a bad deal b.ut I'm budget limited. Lol.

That is a lot for a 50 hour service.. Oil change, air filter change what else is in that? Sounds like a 250 hour service price.

Why are they changing the fuel filter at 50 and why is it so much?

They likely changed both hydraulic filters. Those are very expensive. Just one of mine was $45-50, the other was a bit less. I'm guessing the labor made up a big chunk of the bill.

I just got a trans. filter and it cost $85 and oil brought it up to close to $200. That is doing it yourself. Fuel filters cost another $25 or so. The engine filter was $12 plus oil for $20 more maybe. Plus it took another few hours to change them all.

$435 might be a little high, but at least you didn't wast a bunch of time trying to figure it all out.
