Just because things are under warranty, doesn't mean that someone, (or that system of things) can fix it.

I will never forget when I got a bad tank of fuel in my 94 Dakota. I was calling different dealerships trying to find out where the filter was. I was getting all kinds of answers, except the right one. In the tank, integral with the pump and sender. The bad tank of fuel cost me dearly! More then a ten dollar filter that I could have changed at the side of the road (in winter)!

I on the other hand have no desire to pull the manual choke and pump the throttle, after adjusting the points of course.

Nothing mechanical makes me long for the "Good Ole Days". :)
I never saw a diesel with points or choke, and I've never had to pump the throttle on any of my diesel tractors either...

NONE of my tractors require a puter to run either...just the way I like it!

You might be running old stuff there...I have a friend with a newer Bobcat that needs to be trucked to the dealer for periodic "software updates". Same for a different friend that bought a Kubota tractor. Most of this is probably our EPA and related to emissions and not related to the performance of the machines.

My bobcat side by side has a choke. I was afraid it might be a problem for my wife but none of us have had an issue. The kids handle it fine also.

That would be a "gas" bobcat I think. Diesel is a different matter. I own a lot of "gas" things but never owned a diesel anything other than I have read some stuff...might be wrong but I don't think you ever need a "choke" on diesel fuel delivery...high compression, metered fuel through injectors instead of a carb (i.e. no need for a choke).

Boy,,,, my metaphor started a new debate!!!! I was just making a point (pun intended) about going back to the pre-computer days. I bought a new pickup in 1977, it had a computer, no points. Yep, it was known to be an issue and once in a while you'd hear of someone having to replace the computer. But it beat the snot out of having to adjust points.

To the diesel guys, I'm with ya. Of all the engines I own, most by far are diesel. Some with computers, some without. I was simply saying while we complain when computers don't work, we are sure quiet, fat and happy when they do. An example would be, everyone raise their hand that are reading this without a computer???? :D

Ya, certainly got off track here :)

I have no issue with a belt drive, if it's cheap and easy to replace. The Mule is unfortunately neither.

I persoanlly don't think my belt (Pro FXT) is very expensive or that bad to change out- for $75 I have a new one shipped to the house and can be off and running if I ever had a problem (never had the slightest issue)
May depend on the model Mule you are referring to as there are quite a few over the years (the late 80's to now)

I bought my 2510 Diesel Mule basically new back around 2001. Replacing the belt took maybe four hours. Hardly like opening a snowmobile hood while out on the trail.

That makes more sense, 15 years ago serviceability on them was not the top priority by any stretch. A lot has changed with with Mule FXT compared to the older models. Glad to see Kawasaki really stepped up their game

That's about the amount of time to change out the headlights on newer GM trucks!

The funny thing is on the 2005ish ones, you can change the bulbs in 5 minutes. Pull two pins and the whole headlight drops out.

The old way was essentially a 3 minute job but that ship sailed...I have a 2009...driver's side can be done with a small arm/hand (not me but my wife could do it with a few band-aids and language that I'm sure would disqualify her for public office if she decided to run 11 years from now and somebody recorded it). Passenger side (and driver's side for those with normal sized hands/arms)...remove the plastic wheel shroud around your front tires to access the screws. Go on top and locate the screws (one or more of which will require removing the front plastic shroud with a special tool to access those screws...don't do it when it's cold unless you want to replace that part because it will break). Then slide the whole headlight assembly forward, replace the bulbs and put it back together. Funny thing...it could be done other than they decided to weld an angle bracket exactly where it makes it impossible to get at it. They could have secured that bracket with screws/bolts where they could be removed...but they didn't.

Just an update...pulled the trigger on the Honda 700 Pioneer. Waiting for better weather to go fetch it. Occurred to me at 5 am this morning that while my 5.5'x10' utility trailer will accommodate the listed dimensions and weight, I might not be able to open the door to get in and out other than doing the NASCAR thing...hoping the half doors can be removed easily.

My 2011 F-250 needs to have the grille moved forward (4 screws removed on the top and the bottom screws loosened so the grill will lean forward) in order to change the bulbs. Close to an hours work just to get ready to access the bulb enclosure. I realize the inside of the engine compartment is very cramped, but why the heck can't they go back to two or three screws screwed into the bulb enclosure from the outside like they used to 15-20 years ago, instead of major surgery to replace a light bulb?

Congrats on the new side by side. You will love it I am sure. My Kawi Teryx 750 gets used in so many ways it still amazes me.

You gotta have those new fangled batteries and starter motor to fire up that diesel. That is unless you have a gasoline pony motor which still needs the battery, starter and points. And if you go way back you will still need to manually crank that coil and magneto powered pony engine.

IC Engines and electrical devices go hand in hand. Steam... now there's the solution!
