what do you think- what is the best way to keep your hydraulic hoses on your tractor looking good and keep them in shape. After all the hoses are exposed to high pressure and heat-they are getting weather beating with sun- wet and cold, should we maintain them like all other parts of a tractor or just threat them like any other dirty hose bag because they are tuff the inner layers will keep them working regardless for many years. Let me know what you think -thank you

Altra violet rays are brobably the hardes thing your hoses will have to deal with other than abrasion if routed incorrectly. Both can be helped by putting an abrasive resistent sleeve over the hoses.

thank you for your reply- a protective sleeve is the best- also having it inside or covered

The Kenbota has been in service for about 11 years. It spends its life outside 24/7/365 and shows the wrath of the South Texas sun. It's now a cream color and all the hydraulic lines show extreme aging and cracking. The roll hoses on top have some areas of missing rubber covering from hauling tree branches. I even made a new seat cover for it a couple of months ago. I wish I would had covered the hoses when I put it together but got in a rush. It's due for some updates/mods but I intend to cover the hoses this time.

Split loom does not require disassembly. Just pop it on and tie-wrap the ends.

It doesn't look the greatest though. Kind of reminds me of grandma having plastic on her couch so it keeps looking good. Or driving around for half the year with crappy looking winter rims.

As I am replacing some hoses and want to protect them from abrasion and provide some degree of protection from being injured from a pin-hole leak, I bought some of those foam pipe insulation sections - the kind that has a split down the length and are used to wrap pipes to protect them from freezing. They come in lengths of about 6 feet and in diameters of half, three-quarters and one inch. Very cheap. I also bought some wide black duct tape to secure them if necessary.

I have not installed them yet - just got the new hoses tonight. I don't know how it will look, but it should keep things clean, protect the hoses from abrasion, and me from leaks, and will be easy to take off, discard, and replace if they get too dirty. I don't care that much if they don't look that great after I put them on as I live in the mountains and the only other person who ever sees the tractor is my wife, and she likes it to be clean and not oily or greasy. Worth a try - and like I said very cheap - less than a dollar for the half inch diameter and up to about $1.30 for the inch size - and about 6 feet long.

For some runs you may be able to get more than one hose inside a section of the insulation sections.

I don't think those foam insulating wraps are going to do much to protect hoses from abrasion, and, they'll likely break down if they are in contact with oils/fluids/fuels.
