Gotta love Jaguar Drew

drizzling out now or I'd be out washing it. Instead my friend and I will go through two enormous boxes of collected electronic junk, cables, power adapters, old digital cameras with cassette drives, etc. Having owned a Radio Shack for five years, I've collected a lifetime of electronic stuff. Some needs to be heaved if we can't recycle it in some way. Much will go to some charity store. I think I have six printer cords, all those analog connectors we don't use any more. Somewhere in one box is a power supply for an old laptop I gave my friend years ago so we have at least one prize to look for. I just want the stuff out of my upstairs, as i'm still unpacking from the move.

54 headed to 70. Scattered showers in the forecast. The rain yesterday and today is very welcome because it has been pretty dry. There was a 100 acre brush fire about a mile away on Friday. Did the final tilling of the garden yesterday and have it about half planted. Hoping to finish up mowing the field today between showers. That will put me at the 50 hour mark for my first oil change.

Heading out to take care of the pigs and chickens. Have a great day everyone!

58F and mostly sunny with some high clouds @ 09:15 ... a high of 72F predicted for the day.

Got quite a bit of rain yesterday which was unwelcome ... things - the lawn mostly - will be growing like mad. Which means having to cut it sooner. Also the area I've been trying to clear for the garden will take longer to dry out, due to the disturbed ground and all the depressions holding water.

Did some clean up in the shop, got tailgate for the LPGS cut down to 60", cut apart an improperly welded receiver drawbar and ground bevels so it could be re-welded, ground bevels on some other components for the LPGS, cut down a piece of 10 gauge sheet for the flared feed chute on the wood chipper, pulled some hydraulic QD's off a couple of bad loader hoses that I had replaced earlier.

Called one local equipment dealer about a fuel pump for the Kohler in the Simplicity ... they had it in stock but it was $92 (ouch) ... the $29.35 "Kohler OEM spec" pump off Fleabay is sounding better all the time.

Worked a little on the design for the new lawn vac.

Still have not gotten a call back from Hernando County Deputy Belfry about my chainsaw. On my initial try with the Property Clerk, she wouldn't reveal any info (neither confirm or deny) and referred me to the Deputy ... who hasn't bothered to call back ... after no less than 3 calls from me, leaving messages with Dispatch. Time to up the gradient ... I think during my next call, I'll suggest that unless I get a call back, I'm going directly to the Sheriff ... and failing any action there, I'll go to local media and the Florida Attorney General's Office to investigate what kind of scam they may have going on wrt recovered stolen property. Appropriated for personal or County use, resold, etc. ?

Weeds around various trees/shrubs are getting out of control and with the rain yesterday, today might be a good day to pull them and get some mulch thrown on. Will likely be too wet to do much of anything else outside.

Good morning all! Church day for us.

Had to work on the steering for my old 4310. It just needed some strategic lube, but was a bear to get at. The steering wheel has a shaft with a universal joint to allow tilting. The shaft rides in a heavy duty nylon plastic bushing, and the old grease had dried out and only rusty powder was left. The plastic side cowls had to come off, and in doing so, they are 14 years old, they have age cracks. One of them almost cracked in half. I bought a fiberglass kit and went to work. I will report back on if the resin bonds to Deere's proprietary plastic. I did sand the underside with some coarse sandpaper prior to application. I was doing my best not to get glass fibers all over me.

Anyway, the steering works fine and dandy now. While it was cool, I went out and did some night shredding until 10pm.

Have a great day.

Sounds like a very nice car Drew. I wonder if your lady friend might shy off other potentials? Or is it known that you guys are not in love?

Good Morning! 46F @ 6:45AM. Partly cloudy. High 72F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

Glad you got the fender situation sorted out, Drew. Love the way previous owners pass along little dragon eggs like that with the things they sell. Keeps life interesting, and vocabularies colorful. If you can hear the tires on the Jag, the stereo's not playing loudly enough. Turn it up!

Didn't get to work on the battery hold down yesterday. Instead I was reviewing some photos on line someone else took when they were swapping van roofs, and realized I'd missed a short piece of support bracket. So out came the new spot weld cutter, drill, scraper, and two pound sledge, and off it came. Paid particular attention to how deep I cut this time, as visual access was good and I could see the saw sink into the steel. Turns out I've been wasting some time going too deep, something I don't want to do when removing the roof on the Syncro because I'll be reusing the drip rail that's being drilled into. I also tried wedging a scraper between welds so I could watch the metal spring apart when the top layer was cut, but I didn't see much motion at all, certainly not enough to act as a tell tale to stop cutting. That bracket also stayed solidly attached right up until I cut the last weld, a sign of just how strong those little spots of metal are. Those other photos also showed me what to do with the old solid roof: Tack weld it back onto the donor car and send it to the junk yard with the rest of it. :D

We had a little break in the weather that allowed this work, and when finished I decided to park the donor van down the driveway so I could move the Syncro inside the garage. The Redneck tow truck worked like a charm again, but the tarp I'd brought home from Ohio turned out to be a few feet short. I'd just gotten it stretched out and bungied on when another thunderstorm let loose with a real frog strangler. That drove me to a comfortable chair I keep on the front porch for just such occasions. The tarp was staying on, billowing a bit in the wind but staying in place, when waves of hail started coming down and bouncing off everything. Most was pea sized, so it did no damage, but it sure made a lot of noise. Just about then I noticed that the tarp was sagging into the back end of the van and several gallons of water dumped out of it and into the area above the engine compartment. No big deal because at this point the only thing left on the old van are a couple of nut plates welded to the floor, and in reality I think the only reason I put that blue tarp on it was to create more of an eyesore for my oh so helpful neighbor.

Good morning all! I know I have been absent for a long wile, just checking in every once in a while, but have been a bit busy. 53deg presently, had a shower this morning, still overcast. Big day today my youngest daughter graduates college this afternoon 🎓 with honors 😀, and my son will be graduating from the Police Academy tomorrow ready to start his journey 👮🏻 , my bride keeps telling me that 1 cop in the family is enough so looks like my run of 32 years may be coming to an end. Any way out to dinner tonight at daughters favorite Italian Restaurant to celebrate their accomplishments. But this will also be over shadowed by attending a wake after graduation this afternoon and funeral tomorrow morning to say goodbye to a friend, coworker and brother in blue, who passed after several years in fighting cancer.
I have missed the banter of all, have a good day.

32 years where did it go? Drew it is " Older than Dirt"

We aren't old, we are just wonderfully experienced...
that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

cooler cloudy weather has settled in for several days, not getting to 70 today.
Today's project with my friend is to try, for the last time, to get the steering wheel off my old Cub Cadet with a torch, after
breaking the plastic into little bits with a puller. Been frozen in the same spot for 48 years.
And then we will work on the water cart, plumbing a 55 gallon rain barrel for a DC pump and hose. Rube will meet Goldberg
and hopefully water will run.

I had fun driving the Jagyewar last night, very quiet, deceptively fast, spoiled slightly by a lot of tire noise due to high performance aggressive summer tires put on the car. Why would someone not put all seasons on it? What were they thinking?
But I know. The one BF Goodrich tire version they put on costs 147 bucks a piece, not bad for a 255/20 tire. But of course the tires that should be on it, Continentals or Pirellis (Michelin only has one aggressive tire for this car, I've owned it before, too noisy.) all cost in the 200-200 range. So they saved a hundred bucks by putting on the least expensive tires possible. I don't live in Florida, why would I want summer only tires? They look cool but add an avoidable whine and rumble. After 12 years and 72K miles, there was not one interior rattle in the car. Thank you Ford.

Today my friend and I will wash the car, go over it carefully, and try out a dvd in the rear player for the seatback screens. Need to find a really old one, most of my stuff at home is BluRay and that won't play on this old player. Maybe I should get a copy of 50 Shades of Grey and have that playing while my elderly dinner guests are riding in the rear. Now that would make the night memorable!

Having lived alone now for three years, and doing almost everything by myself, it is so nice to have a friend help, one who thinks like you do, well we both overthink things, and working as a team on things. I don't think I have to prove my self-reliance to anyone but gosh it's nice to have both the help and the company. Haven't met the right person yet, my current lady friend is just a good friend. Which works well for both of us. But it's not like she's setting me up with dates either...though through her I have met lots of locals, who all seem to do nothing but drink at parties. Wow do folks drink a lot here...

Let's see, Billy, the two Randy's, David/MFW, some of you are close enough to have sisters...:D
Kind, smart and not financially destitute.
Looks negotiable. Not like I'm any prize...

hmmm, kinda makes me feel like one of farmer's cows or chickens going off to auction...;)

Drew, I'd love to help, but both my sisters were brothers!:D

Beautiful day here, going out to work on my aspharugus patch. It got over grown in the last couple years, I tilled it lightly, now I am going to mulch it and put some soaker hoses in, I hope to get the patch back. I might salt it also, try to keep the grass out.

Good morning, I should say good day. 11:15 and it is 60 here going to 60 so I assume that the temp is on the way down. 80% chance of showers, but less than 1/10 of an inch. Did not sleep well last night. The guy I sold the tractor to called last night and confirmed that the trans is needing work. We talked about it and so it looks like I have a hefty bill to pay. Shop said $2500 up. It was sluggish when I was unloading things for him and I told him it was on me because it was before he had even driven the tractor except to do a circle in the yard trying it out before he bought it. 68°F and .43 inches rain last 24 hours.

While not in same league as many of the projects here, nor tractor related, I did fashion an expanded metal cage for my exhaust extension.

60 this morning and headed to 81 today. Already 76 and sunny.

I made some adjustments to the hay rake yesterday but no pictures. It misted rain most of the day. Have more adjustments to make once in the field with a baler.

Take care of birds and feed cows. May go see if the strawberries are still good at dads.
