Good morning!
Wngsprd, take it easy after being sandwiched.

3rd day in a row of 50s morning and 80s afternoons with clear skies. The smaller mosquito puddels are slowly disappearing, but my back roads are still tractor traps.
Kyle the new MamaFu's opens in Bastrop Monday. They were in training yesterday and I inquired about their low fat vegan food. I might give them a try there were a couple items on the menu that fit my diet. Since it's not pre-cooked I'll ask them to hold all oils. Ed, I also have thrown food away that I did not check the label till I got home. One ambulance ride was enough for me.

Kyle, also the new GoodWill store in Bastop is open. They had a whole new bin of vintage vinyl records, found 6 classics@1.99ea.

BH parts are ordered.

55 this morning and headed to 82 today.

Mowing is done except the 3'x200' strip that I missed beside one of the chicken coops. Will run ZTR down there today and get that.

Think we'll go to my grandparents today and borrow the 3pt tiller. Then swing by the local farm and garden and get some seeds and tomato plants. Try to get the garden planted today before taking mom to meet sister for Mother's Day. Then out to eat. Sister needed to do it today as tomorrow wouldn't work.

Wngsprd glad you're okay. Just sore. I will also vote for the 3/4 ton truck. Nothing like mass in that situation. But if a SUV is what you want. I'd recommend a Tahoe. Our 2011 rates very good 4-5 stars in all crash test. It also has weight and I was surprised at how heavy it is. First vehicle the wife's had that doesn't dance when you get into a semi's turbulence.

Billie, that person's insurance would buy me a real nice truck! Whiplash and other peripheral injuries and a totaled truck with some value, you were driving it everyday. I was in the body shop business for years before selling in the 80's to concentrate on the interior design shop. I saw a lot of not very nice vehicles totaled and bring 2-3 times their actual market value. As Drew can probably tell you, at least here anyway, they pay the highest agreed value, plus expenses to shop for a new vehicle, plus rental. Then there's PIP, (personal injury protection), that's paid directly to you, here it's up to $2500 depending on medical bills. Oh yeah, they would buy me a nice shiny truck.

Broken sunshine this morning, first morning with any Sun in 12 days! High in the upper 60's.

   / Good morning!!!! #45,525
Boy Wngsprd ...glad it wasn't worse and you're relatively unscathed!!!

Still pretty wet grass...not sopping wet, but wetter then I'd want to mow. It's quite overcast and somewhat cool (55) so I don't expect a lot of evaporation. I'll go out about 1300-1400 and mow, regardless of how damp the grass is.

47 going to 67...probably more rain and already had some this morning, so this is day 11.

Wow, lots of folks up early on a Saturday.

Had my first ride in an ambulance yesterday. Real nice EMTs, one a young med student at VCU, one my age wearing a Kubota hat.

Was coming home from the gym and had to stop for a car making a left turn across traffic, a few vehicles ahead on a two lane highway. All of a sudden I heard and felt a truck rear end me...wham,...pushed me ahead and slammed me into the SUV stopped in front of me, so wham again. I checked out okay from the x-rays and CT scan, but my 4Runner is a goner...377,000 miles, was hoping to see at least 400K. So several scrapes and bruises, and a very sore neck and shoulder got me up several times during the night.

I was put in the ambulance fairly quickly, and so don't know who the other drivers are, but they were okay. State police and Ashland town police were there.

I guess I'll be back in the truck market...RNG, how about a nice used Vanagon?

Glad to hear you are basically OK, my ex told me that whiplash lasts for 2 weeks if it is just pulled tendons and muscles. Good luck on the post crash insurance experience. I would like to hear how it turns out.

Don, have you seen the supposedly low fat or vegetarian food in Walmart's frozen section. Can't quite remember the name.
What genre is your wife collecting? Somewhere, I have an old stash of disco albums that belonged to my brother. I have a turntable still, but with kids, I have to keep the stylus/needle in the gun safe for safekeeping.

wasn't there an old wive's tale that drinking a glass of grapefruit juice would wash all that bad fat away?
A magic elixir...
Eat like a pig and then wash the bad stuff away.

I got jabbed by the arthritis doc yesterday who said I had lost only one pound since the last time I saw him, and my number one priority was to lose
twenty pounds. Same advice as last time. This time, I'm going to surprise him, and maybe myself, and get it done.
He told me I wouldn't be able to keep doing what I was doing much longer unless I lost the weight. Not sure how that will help my
aching neck; does going on a diet shrink the weight of one's head?
But it does apply to the arthritis now going into my feet, making it harder to walk for hours on end. It's that mobility I worry the most about.
All I have to do is pick up a twenty pound sack of bird seed to quickly see what I am hauling around unnecessarily.
Getting rid of that would sure lighten my step.

All common sense and yet not so easy to do. Requires focus and attention and it seems that is often elsewhere.
I just have to stay out of the fast food places. They draw me in like a magnet. No fast food, no ice cream, it's a matter of no no's.
Agree on enough of them and only the good food is left.

When we went very low fat whole foods vegan my 90 yr old mom was living with us. She went along with it too and this is what happened. She had hands bent from arthritis ant they went back to normal shape. Her blood sugar went from 140 on the Dr's diet to 80 on ours and 75% starch. I can breathe a lot better than before and just feel a lot better. TX Don do you have any stories?

Wngsprd Glad you are Ok Hope and pray your neck heals quickly. Ed

I'm in the Century Study in Houston. It's a 5 year study that includes 3 pet scans -begining - mid - end. I'm in year 3 and had the second scan which showed a increase of circulation of blood in the vessels of the heart. Heart disease can really be controled by diet! A diet that Americans will not embrace.

Our Local Cardiac Rehab has double in the last 5 years, since when I was there, and now there is a 4 month waiting list.

My wife is also no-fat, plant based and is the only one in her group that is not on any medication.

Kyle there is a lot of vegetarian products out there - but caution- they are not all healthy - especially the ones with cheese. Some are worse than a McDonald's hamburger. Go for the vegan - no animal products means no cholesterol - and always check the fat and sugar content. If it has very low fat (0-2 grams) check the ingredients - If any oils are added at all, it is bad. Only a very small amount of fat in natural form is allowed - like seeds, etc. Added sunflower oil, canola oil, etc . . is the #1 eliminator of many foods for me.

And Drew, Drew, Drew, You must be remembering the Grapefruit diet of the 1940's which has been proven wrong. That diet decreased the fluids in the body and did nothing for the fat. Sorry, no magic diet or pill - just eliminate it from your diet, and it is as easy as it sounds.

Got oil changed in Kubota this morning and then started working on the garden area with the landscape rake. Got quite a bit more debris pulled out and some smoothing and filling done of the ruts.

After that I went down to behind the polebarn and started raking the leaves off the topsoil I screened a couple of years ago. It's piled up along the path/trail to keep runoff from coming down near the barn. Got the leave mostly raked off and then started cutting into it with the loader and moving it.

The reason I'm doing this is that the trail is narrow and uneven there and I need to widen it so I can move the brush piles up by the garden area/shop to the rear of the property.

Got quite a bit done and drug back to the rear of the property and then went back to doing some more work with the landscape rake on the garden area. Wasn't too long before I noticed it was starting to cloud up pretty good so I went and dropped the landscape rake, installed the MMM, dropped the loader and started mowing.

Got about 10 passes done on the lowest are which takes the longest to dry out and then it started coming down pretty steady so I came in.

I think it's probably quit by now so I'm gonna head out and try to give it another go ... otherwise by the time it dries out again I'll be needing to use the vacuum.

Good afternoon guys, 64 degrees and a light drizzle. Will be over soon. Just got back from the post office. Sent a friends Pre-war Lionel passenger cars back to him that I blasted.

Well the outdoor motion light thing turned into a cluster%$#k. Seems it being under the porch roof made it think it was night time in the day time. So the light would come on if something passed in the day. So I had to either move it or figure out a fix. And I did not want to move it. So I had an old eye switch from one of the old dusk to dawn lights I replaced. I decided I could use it as a on off in front of the light. So I set it up and wired it through the eye switch that I have facing the south sky and now all is well.

Had to go pick up some meds after I made grilled Cheese for lunch.

wngsprd, Glad it was not worse!!!

Here is the light after my modifications

And for You Kubota fans, I finally got one I like It is a M135GX  I like the CNW flatcar too.

Thanks Don, The thing about no added oils is a new one to me but it makes sense. Hope to step up to a little better diet and health than I have now. I got started with the video Forks over Knives, lot of good info. Ed

Really bad news. Same thing happened to me in '03, only it was an Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy in her cruiser. I was in a '99 4Runner, and the impact wasn't nearly like what you describe, but it was enough to screw up my neck for the rest of my life. I didn't go to the hospital until two days later when I could barely get out of bed, and there was no obvious damage in x-rays or MRI. No attorney would take my case and I had to go to small claims against the county to even get the bumper fixed. Forget about your 'Runner, start asking friends and family for a good personal injury attorney and talk to them ASAP. Soft tissue injury is very hard to diagnose and very debilitating, and you may not see the ultimate impact (pun NOT intended) for years. One thing I learned was that the '99 4Runner had head restraints that were redesigned the next year because they did not provide sufficient protection in a rear end collision. Google it and see for yourself. As such, your next call should be to a highly respected neurologist or orthopedic surgeon that deals with this type of injury on a daily basis. I wouldn't put much faith in an ER x-ray/CT.

And dont settle the personal injury side until you are done healing. See an attorney NOW though so you are protected.

You can usually settle the property damage now though. Do not just take the first offer they make. Your vehicle was certainly special and had some modifications over and above standard that makes the NADA valuation low surely.... ;)

Absolutely correct. If you've kept receipts for upgrades to the 'Runner, get them out to show to the adjustor. Maintenance and repair receipts, too. Then start going through the on line ads for the truck to see what people are asking for them. Some auction sites show the auction closing prices as well, but auctions don't bring the best prices. Don't make the mistake of letting your own insurance company settle the claim with your own property damage limits. They'll try to depreciate the heck out of it without regard to the actual replacement value. If it's a daily driver, you'll also be entitled to a rental to use while you look for a replacement. These are all things a good personal injury attorney can help with. Their job is to make you whole from the loss. Don't be in a hurry to sign anything until you understand the full nature of your injuries, the real value of your 4Runner, and your time lost due to the accident and doctor visits. And that time is compensated at your pay rate, not some made up figure.

Good morning. Heavy rain has passed and it's looking now like I may get chance to play outside at welding for a couple of hours. I'm still trying to master running vertically, I can go down with 6013 (by far the most widely used rod type in this country) but not up, which I would be happy with but the experts say not to do it that way.

Wngsprd, you sound in very good spirit to say you have been in a collision like that. A good sign that your severely jolted head could still register a Kubota cap. Do hope you heal ok.

Such a shame your faithful truck didn't make it to 400k. Only consolation is that your 4runner hasn't had to suffer a long period of gradual decay before meeting it's breaker. It wouldn't even have seen it coming. One minute it was happily ticking over at the feet of it's master of all those miles and the next it was gone. I know you will want to grieve over it for a while yet and that is only right, but just think, soon it will be reincarnated into new steel, maybe even a little tractor. :)

51 going to 74 and sunny...just what I ordered for Mother's Day.

Making a special coffee for my wife today and then some Belgian waffles. My other plans sort of evaporated when I had the accident.

Thanks for the advice on my accident. RNG, sorry to hear of your experience. I'm still sore and stiff, but am optimistic that by the time my fields dry out enough to run the tractor I'll be ready to get some seat time...and Coconino is ready to get her hiking partner back on the trail.

Eric, as you said, my 4Runner was a faithful truck - never failed...I like the thoughts about it being recycled into a tractor.

46.2F and partly cloudy @ 04:30 ... supposed to be sunny today with a high of 64F.

Managed to get pretty much the entire front lawn mowed yesterday before it really started raining, except for a little bit of trimming here and there. We were under a severe thunderstorm warning there for a while, complete with high winds in excess of 60 mph, dangerous lightning, and golf ball-sized hail. Considering where it came from, murph probably saw some of that action as well.

Dunno how much we actually got, but it rained pretty good there for awhile.

I mowed in mid-range yesterday rather than high and just took my time until there at the end, right after the first huge clap of thunder, enjoying looking at everything in bloom. This year seemed to be a banner year for our (mostly naturally occurring) dogwoods and the apple/crab apple/hawthorns did great as well.

We have several lilac bushes that were given to us a couple of years ago by a close friend of The Woman. They have never bloomed and last year one of them appeared to have died. The Woman was disgusted by them (for never having bloomed)

I noticed yesterday that while the top of the one that appeared to have died is all dead wood, there is a bunch of new growth at the base of the plant. And the largest specimen of the four she gave us - which is now around 4' tall - has finally bloomed this year. I even stopped the tractor long enough to get off and smell it ... and I'm not much of a fan of the fragrance of lilac but it smelled good.

I suspect today's activities may involve finding or preparing a place to plant The Woman's dahlias ... assuming they are still alive.
