What kind of milage do you guys get out of a v10? A buddy has one and he constantly brags on it. He clams he gets 12 mpg in town driving and about 8 pulling a heavy load which is no worse than my F-350 with the 5.4 v8.

12 ish with driving like a grandpa, dips down to 7 when towing somewhat heavy. 2009 F350 CCSB with Grillegaurd. it has the 4.10 (towing) rear end.

I occasionally drive a '98 E350 15-passenger van with the V10 and 3.73 gears. Loaded with 15 people, it averages 14 mpg on the highway. With 15 people and a 5x8 enclosed trailer (3000 lbs), it averages 10 mpg.

Heres a question i dont think is important enough to have its own thread, but i am still curious. Why do most people who buy an extended cab half ton, but only get short (6.5ft) beds, i Know Ford stills offers the option to get a 8' bed with the extended cab, and i believe Toyota still does as well.

1) Hard to find long beds anymore. 2) Parking garages in cities don't like them.

Actually, most new home regular house garages are too short for a regular/long bed crew cabs as well.

In reality - the bed on my Ram is only 5 foot 7 inches long... It does ride like a Cadillac and is nimble for a truck though. The newer half tons are designed to be the modern working family grocery getter on steroids. A neighbor down the road did it right and special ordered a new Chevy half ton with a long bed and bench front seat. Six people rather than five, and a couple extra feet in bed.

What gets me are all the 3/4 ton trucks with short beds running around these days. When you see a long bed it a lost looks strange...

They can be custom ordered, and same with homes having the option to be built with larger garages. i understand it from the daily driver pov, but for the people who don't daily drive... I suppose a few people buy pickups because they are safer, or at-least can seem that way, and those people care very little about bed length i guess... there definitely are some good looking extended cab long bed half tons out there IMO. like this one

Because many folks who drive a 1/2 ton pickup don't haul any thing but air.


Same goes for 3/4 and ton trucks around here. It must be a fashion statement or a measure of excessive wealth.

I just went back to the V10 from the Ford 6.8 diesel. I had a 09 V10 that was a good truck, but ate manifolds. They lasted about 8000 miles and started leaking. .. Replaced under warranty twice. Tried the 12 diesel and I didn't have much confidence in owning it out of warranty. I traded for a F450 V10 ..it gets 7.5-8 mpg if I'm easy on the throttle.

I just acquired a used 09 F350 with V10. It has a new manifold. Any idea why the manifolds don't last? I also have an '01 V10 approaching 300,000. I purchased an SCT programmer from 5 Star Tuning. The '01 went from 8 to 11 mpg. Will probably buy one for the '09 as well.

If it's primary utility is towing.... and people moving with air in the bed.... :drink:
