Good morning!!!!

Good Morning! 62F @ 9:00 AM. Partly to mostly cloudy. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High 76F. Winds S at 5 to 10 mph.

No work on the flail mower yesterday, as I got a late start after being up most of the night before. Paid a few bills then went into town to run errands and test drive a Vanagon/Subaru conversion van. I was very pleasantly surprised. Plenty of power, even climbing some steep hills, pretty good handling, not nearly as much body roll as I'd expected in a bus, and acceptably quiet on the freeway, but compared to a Diesel F250, anything is quiet. Spent a fair amount if time discussing the conversion, looking over the donor van that's available, and I'm now trying to figure out "what to leave in, what to leave out", and what I can do vs. what's best left in my mechanic's hands. I was impressed by the little things he's done to make the conversion easy to live with. He's cut a very clean line between VW and Subaru parts: Anything to do with the engine is available from Subaru, all the rest comes from VW. Very few specialized parts available only from him, and none of them I couldn't fabricate if needs be. Hoses and wires are well placed and protected, filters easy to get at and easy to get, no special fuel requirements, and a wide variety of options available (too many, really) for wheels, tires, interiors, you name it. So that's my challenge for the next day or two, reading up on the possibilities so that I know before the conversion starts just where it'll end up. That'll help loads to keep it on track, and avoid cost and time over runs. But the test drive was enough to help me see I can be very comfortable camping out of one of these things, certainly way more comfortable than off a motorcycle, especially in inclement weather. No, it's a far cry from Drew's palatial digs on wheels, but the small size and 4WD will get me far from the maddening crowd and gain me greater acceptance among the VW folks I'm already hanging with at the VW/BMW motorcycle campouts, and probably open some new doors in new directions as well. At the end of the day, it's all about fun (and reliability), and I think this project will have plenty of both.

I was back home late as well, but with the truck and its new water and power steering pumps hopefully keeping all the fluids inside the engine from now on. By 2AM I had what I hope are the remainder of the computer updates downloaded, so it's another late start today. Light schedule though: unload the motorcycle from the bumper hitch, then put the scraper blade on the back of the tractor to finish grading the gravel off the driveway. It's supposed to rain tonight and on-and-off over the next few days, nothing much but enough to settle the dust and compact the surface some, hopefully without creating new ruts. The motorcycle wrench fest is in a week, so the timing is looking pretty good. Which reminds me, I forgot to pick up the direction signs for the event on the way out of town, even though I did stop on the way in to pay for them. They were supposed to be left outside the back door for me, so I hope they didn't sprout legs and wander off.

TGIF gang!

Good afternoon, no time to read everything just TMI for me now with two grand-kids 2 and 5 and the daughter 27 is a house full for us.
Funny how they get along better with no mom here. They will head out tomorrow morning. Katie ( the daughter) and some-day-maybe ( her other half) got a house on the hook, just hope nothing spits out the hook before they close on May 16th.
Have a good one.

RNG, you want to see palatial, go into a $100K fifth wheel.
I'm just a Chevy in the overall scheme of larger travel trailers/fifth wheels.
See the USA in a Chevrolet...

cooking burgers on the grill, ten feet away through a big window, keeping an eye on the smoke.
just checked on them, rare, I like them medium. Nothing like the smell of burnt cow.
Sorry Don.

big good neighbor day, first mowed my drunken crazy neighbor farmer's front yard while it was still less than a foot tall. Otherwise it gets so tall in there I'm afraid to mow it. Don't know what IED's are in there. He staggered over while I was working down by the barn, has to walk, permanently lost his license and for all the right reasons. Dropping a hint that his mower was broken, well....And then I mowed the roadsides heading back home, and then mowed them again so they have never looked nicer. I know my neighbors cooking crack in their singlewides will appreciate it.
Actually my immediate neighborhood is pretty nice for a Southern redneck flavor. Lot of farmers and tradesmen. Everyone works... local farmer had a gorgeous double tired big blue New Holland working across the street. I wave to all of them and they always wave back. He must have a hundred coats of wax on that blue tractor, my did it shine. Pulling a Euro style flipover plow on the back. Neat to watch.
The load from the hydraulics on that thing would probably stall my tractor....

a big juicy one is calling

RNG, your Suba-vanagon or Vanabaru sounds pretty neat.

Reading about grilling burgers - I can almost taste them - haven't had dinner yet.

Well, after my haircut, I fixed my cheapo JD riding mower so it is turning 360s again...$89 of parts and about 2 hours later...nothing big will break so that I'll have an excuse to get a real mower :)...I keep it running with about $100 - $200 of parts each year. But I think I will start paying attention and looking into a replacement just in case I've jinxed myself...don't know much about the current brands, models or prices.

Tomorrow will be up early - even though it is supposed to be in the 20s and windy, and 30% chance of snow, I'll be out for opening day of gobbler season.

my oldest friend is constantly sending me jokes about getting old.
His latest was Biblical: "The LORD will smite you with madness and blindness and confusion of
mind....
" Deuteronomy 28:28, RSV

Gosh, I just thought that was getting older...

burger with a big slice of sweet onion: yum

Good evening all. 50F this morning, just a few high thin clouds today, made it to 69F, bike ride and nap were the highlight of today's TMI. Did not realize I was able to post last night due to 504 errors from the website.
Had a green chili burger for diner tonight and the corner restaurant yum :)

Calling for wind, and snow tonight.
Got up on the 10/12 roof and put some adhesive under the shingles that were blowing up in the last big wind. They almost blew off, nails about pulled thru. Will have to fix it proper when it is warmer and less wind. Need a ladder, hard to hold onto a roof that steep without a ladder or something to hold to. Have a less steep porch roof below, so wasnt going to fall too far if i slid off.

Burger sounds good, had some leftover roast beef.

Please get some sort of "rope over the ridge" safety system. As a former roofer (in my youth) I know what a 20 foot "tuck and roll" fall felt like. Would not want it at 65.

I need to do some roof work this year, and I think a harness system is a good idea. I just don't bounce as good as I used too.

We are getting snow here, and it is sticking! It hasn't been a bad winter, but spring sure has been a pain.

   / Good morning!!!! #44,472
Snow in forecast here as well tonight up to one inch possible. Lots of milling done today in preparation for paving. High tomorrow of 42 with wind gusts to 50 MPH and mowing needs done

The removal of the old rusted bent cattleguard and the install of my parents new 18'X8' cattleguard went exactly as planed. 2 tractors, 10 hours. I'm so tired. Perfect Day. Photos below. The finished pictures are the rough-in photos, I still have another 4 hours to smooth everthing out and install a gate holding post.

Kyle. I passed that article on to the wife after reading it. There are several more articles out there about the same thing. Seems like there is some research to back it up so its not sounding like a joy juice to me.

I use to do research on joy juices. A joy juice won't show consistent results much less repeatable ones. Even had one named Monties Joy Juice. Go figure it sold. Sounds like this treatment has consistent results though.

Don. Looking good.

Good morning all. 35 here this am going to 42. Snow showers this am and wind, gusts as high as 44 mph. Hopefully this will be a slow day and I can get a much needed nap but only The Lord knows If it will happen. 3 meals and the little daily things and the nap are about all I have planed today. We will see.
Ed

Don I like the way you thought through the cattle guard job and did it with what you had. The cattle guard looks good too. Thanks for the pic's.

Good morning all. With the rain having passed over, clear skies and the sight of a few lambs bouncing around all conspired to fool me into going out without a hat again this morning. My ears are wondering, when will I ever learn to a least keep a beanie in a pocket.

The removal of the old rusted bent cattleguard and the install of my parents new 18'X8' cattleguard went exactly as planed.
Don, if I had being wearing a hat, I'd take it off to you in recognition of a good plan well executed. I bet you went to sleep with a big satisfied smile after getting that done in a day. Lifting the steelwork into place must have been tricky, I'm intrigued how you did that. Was there sufficient room to reverse one of the tractors between the concrete beams to bring it in, or did you have to do a lot of swinging and pushing ?

50 degrees going up a few degrees today but then like others, headed into the deep freeze tonight. Might be the season's last freeze. 30 degrees tonight, next rain Tuesday night, otherwise dry. I planted three blooming roses yesterday, hope they make it through tonight ok.

Don, nice job, that was quite a project. Hope you slept in, you deserved it.

going to clean up the barn today and pick up some sticks, in anticipation of lots more sticks coming down in high winds. A friend is coming over this afternoon with two little kids and I think I have tractor ride duty. I think I'll hose out one of my pull carts and haul them around behind the garden tractor.
Faster, faster. Nope. "faster faster" gets us all into trouble.
