46F going to 77F

I got a bit of mowing done yesterday. Maybe 6 acres or so. Sure was nice to get some good tractor time for the first time this year. Not an easy 6 acres mind you. We have a number of "motts" (or stands) of post oak trees on our place. I try to mow in-between the trees twice a year to keep them from overgrowing. You have to drive like you're in a Ferrari to go between the trees. I take the FEL off, and lower the ROPS, and then just appreciate the heck out of the MFWD, power steering, hydrostatic tranny and the left side individual rear brake pedals that help turn on a dime. When done, they look really nice like a park. They are in need of some pruning and cutting the "scrub" out still. Also the one just east of the house has a lot of deadwood in it. There must be something killing them, although I really don't mind so much as it needs to get thinned out.

I finally repaired the A/C's drip line pipe (I hope). I have a perforated pvc pipe just going out into the yard, but about every 2 years it gets clogged up. This time, I put a 4 way pvc fitting just where it comes out from under the home at just below ground level. It now has a drain straight down into our french drain, is still connected to the original lawn pvc pipe, and a straight up cleanout/breather tube. I did not glue anything, since I know I will have to take it apart for maintenance sooner or later. If I could just remember to add a few drops of bleach to the A/C's drain line at the unit.... I've been told that improper drain lines can produce pathogens. If any of you has something that you have to somewhat regularly dig up for maintenance, I highly recommend plain old sand to fill the hole with. So much easier to dig next time around.

Need to burn off some of the dead wood today. If the wind will remain normal.

RNG, I feel for you. You and your dad are in my prayers. Your dad not being able to offer any information that could help is a tough situation. I dread the day my mom passes. Having to deal with all her stuff. She has started offloading some of it, but there is still a bunch of stuff. Nothing of any significant value. Just a lot sentimental stuff that I will have not much room for. Is there much of your dad's stuff that you would like to keep? If so, I would consider buying a used enclosed trailer and hauling some back home. You can usually get your money back out of most trailers. They really hold their value if bought and sold right.

Have a blessed day all.

Good morning! 48˚ sunny. Pretty day.

My Dad has a mega project for me. He wants to redo his entrance and make it wider. That means replacing the culvert, cattle guard, and moving corner post. His cows are walking over the rusted/bent cattle guard and the entrance keeps gettting bumped by large hay hauling equipment. 25' is not a wide enough entrance now, it was when the haying equipment was smaller, when he built it 50 years ago.

You make me feel bad about my 16' gate. (That I've had to take down 3 times to get wide stuff in here....) Don't have any cows to get out, although the deer use it quite often. Is his place off of CR113?

Much cooler today, low 60's if the east wind doesn't get started too early, once it kicks in clouds and cool will prevail.

The fence corner post by the road are 25' apart and the cattle guard, 16' back from the gate, is 16.5' wide. The "V" is too narrow for the turn into the CR. We will be going to 35' corners and a 18' cattle guard.

What kind of cattle guard do you use? Concrete or steel?

Dad passed way back in '94, Mom in '04, this old guy was her boyfriend from about '96. I was long gone from her life by then, though I did spend some time with him when she was passing. It was then that I moved most of what I wanted to keep from the house, but all of Mom's personal items are still here, along with a few of her paintings and a LOT of her painted china. Some of it is valuable, most of it will go to St. Vincent DePaul along with his clothing and personal stuff. The difficult part has been the deferred maintenance on the home, basically nothing's been done to it since Mom died. Kinda pisses me off, as the old b'std lived rent free and let the place go to He11, contrary to our agreement. Yeah, I'm his heir, but there won't be much left after the nursing home gets done with him. Anyway, I'm thinking the full size bed on the F250 will be plenty of room for what I'm bringing back. Of course if I stumbled across an old BMW motorbike on the way back, I could always snag a U-Haul to drag it home in. They only run about $300 from here, less as I move west.

Kyle, may be hypoxylon canker. It attacks damaged or distressed oaks. We have lost quite a few post oaks to it from the drought in 2011.

66°F and 1.91 inches rain last 24 hours.

Got a fair amount of mowing done before the rain came y steer day.

Diesel mech coming this AM to look at my generator. I think it is the water pump gone bad. Kinda hope I'm right as that should be a fairly easy replacement once I get parts.

Be safe
Have a great day

Good evening,
Took down the 100' snow fence and almost tipped the tractor over pulling out one of the fence post. A bit too much angle sitting on the side of the berm.

Put some of the free fuel from the transfer tank in the tractor and it runs just fine. So I graded the lane and then took down the fence. It was almost 60 outside and I was sweating out yesterday's beer working out there.
We had stuffed Pork chops tonight, Wife wanted them and picked them up. I had fish thawed out but it will have to wait till Monday.

Daughter called and wants me to deliver the kids elect jeep that did not work when she brought it out here but now after I fixed it and got a new battery for it she wants it there.. Indian giver......... :confused3:

In case I don't get back tomorrow,,,,have a happy Easter everyone!!!!!!!!!!

RNG kind of like you, I am amazed at all of the people my age that still have their parents around. I lost my mom at age 6 and my dad passed in 1991 and my step mom in 1997. I am 63 so it has been a long time since I have had to deal with parents. I guess some don't know how blessed they are to still have their mom and dad around when they are my age, but on the other hand maybe I don't know how blesses I am. Just thinking. Not that anything changes anything.
Happy Easter.

Steel, I haven't seen any other kind used down here. It will sit in and on a cement platform on each driving end.

Good evening all. 51F this morning, clear light breeze. Got to 72F, breezy and partly cloudy. Went and mowed stepdaughter's lawn with wifey, rode bike and then we played 9 holes of golf. Have 3 trips back to Missouri, hopefully can combine two.

Well, I ended up having to go finish mowing my FIL's yard. His old Snapper RER broke the steering shaft's yoke plate or whatever you call it. I've already fixed both tie rods. Now will have to weld and buttress the shaft's plate. Probably should just make one out of thicker plate.

Heard a clunk from the dishwasher. Yep, it won't drain. Youtube is my friend. Have an impeller kit on the way from Amazon. $26. Will take another 15 minutes to put it back together when it gets here. A coiled spring that wraps around the shaft had uncoiled and messed up the impeller. Hope the pump motor is still good after getting stuck like that. More news on how it turns out later...

I hope all of you have a Happy Easter.

Good morning all. The rain kindly paused overnight and has allowed me to walk around the fields in the dry before sitting down to read TBN and enjoy another Easter breakfast of hot cross buns. With the Easter holiday coming so early this year lots of people are moaning that it ought to be more tied to the calendar. I quite like the variability and quirkiness of deciding which date it happens to fall on.

Happy first Sunday after the first full moon after the first Equinox.
