Personally I like the new Adventure type bikes.
Street bikes with light off road capability. Luggage boxes snap on/off easily if wanted.

I like my serious dirt bikes too much to make compromises my truck will go almost anywhere a street bike will go and my Trials bike snaps on/off easily when I want to go somewhere no other motorcycle can possibly go.

My wife rides with me on the back and likes mix up our riding on main roads, back roads and dirt roads when on a motorcycle ride. (where's she going to fit on that bike )
Adventure style bikes are perfect for our type of riding.
I don't do much pure dirt riding any more or I would get another dirt bike. (We go on the ATV for that)

I had a trials bike once back in the 70's.
A Honda TL 250.

:thumbsup: Mine are Montesa's, Montesa is owned by Honda and the motors are made by Honda HRC. You can buy them at select Honda dealers now you should buy one. They weigh in at 160 pounds ready to ride, the 1970's TL is a beast by comparison.

I had a trials bike in the 70's, a Kawasaki 250. I liked it a lot...

I rode my Gold Wing up the "haul road" and pretty much every place else in Alaska, including through McKinley park, also over the ALCAN a couple times.

There are times a small bike would have been nice, but there is also alot of highway.

Taking a 500+ lb bike into the woods can get a little hairy. The WR250R eats it up.

That is why I bought side by side. With the roll bar you just smash through everything, don't need a trail. All my plastic is trash though.
