Instead of buying that rube Goldberg hitch for your sporty lil suv to tow the camper a couple times a year, just have an old dodge 3500 or ford 350 single cab parked. Be cheaper, and a good emergency 2nd vehicle, and you coil haul that palate of sod if needed

The problem is if you want to go on a cross-country trip (say in your Excursion, Expedition EL, Yukon XL 2500, or full size van) with 7+ people and a camper big enough to sleep all of them, you are out of luck (or you have a severely restricted list of campers).
Most 1 ton trucks under $10k aren't in good enough shape to take cross country without risking major repairs on the side of the road (and even if they were, you you have twice as many engines to feed, you have to split people between vehicles, etc, etc, etc.

Thanks! We have a Polaris Ranger, the most used vehicle on the ranch. I bought the small trailer at Harbor Freight for $199 4-5 years ago, specifically to permanently mount the pressure washer. The PW came with small tires and was a big PIA to move around the ranch.

I'm considering another of the HF trailers to install my portable 8kW generator on for ranch jobs away from electric supply.

We have 2 stock trailers. One is a 24' C&M steel and other one is a 24' Sundowner Pro Stock aluminum.

So how's the aluminum compare to the steel. Weight? Pull?

I watching for a gooseneck 20'. Would like aluminum but will I save enough weight to justify the cost. Although I'm not a fan of solid sides.

The people I know that have them say it pays because they use them all the time... it also provides greater payload.

I really like well built aluminum trailers... came close a few times... still don't have one. I'm RTV shopping right now... never thought I would be... just looks like it would be useful on the ranch... the Kubota L3800 is fine for getting around when working alone... not the ideal with others... plus it would be nice to be able to showcase the place to some of my elderly friends. The Crewcab F250 is a little big for the trails... plus takes a parking lot to turn compared to an RTV. Please let me know if I'm making a mistake... right now the Kawasaki Mule 610XC in camo is what I am leaning towards... with California tax and registration, Dealer build and adding OEM hard canopy and rear receiver the best price is $8992 out the door... still a heck of a lot of money!!! I understand it is rather light on towing, carrying a speed. The plus side is they seem to be simple, economical and dependable... plus the right size for the trails. Tell me what I'm missing?

Power. I tried the 610XC and it felt like riding a golf cart. Ended up getting a Polaris Ranger 400 and couldn't be happier with the machine. 44 mph, 26 mpg and the power to tow in all terrains. Downside is expensive Polaris parts & accessories and undersized battery.

Just a personal opinion, you probably won't agree: I don't understand camo paint for anything that might tangle with an auto that doesn't see it in time.

I don't know how many times I've pulled out in front of a jacked-up Toyota pickup repainted flat black or camo and running with no lights right at dusk. I've come to think of those owners as idiots, as I'm sure they are cussing me for cutting them off. Hey make yourself invisible, don't expect me to see you and gracefully merge.

Yes, that is the type of scenario I was thinking of where one of these auxiliary axles trailer thingamajiggies might make sense. It wouldn't be for the guy with a farm, ranch or business where they already had good reason to own a one ton truck but rather for someone that has less regular need for higher towing capacity.

Couple mornings ago saw an old pickup alongside the road, hood up. Towing trailer with an old car on it.
Still there last night on way home.
This morning just the truck there, trailer gone.

Like having the comments... more things to consider...

Best price so far has been on a Camo unit which is normally a slight upcharge. Can't imagine running on any roads at this point... just on the property.

Golf cart analogy is also what I need to hear... one dealer sells several brands and has one each from Honda... assortment from Kawasaki and moves a lot of Rangers... has them up to 24K...

Do like the ability to get in tight places and haul in a 8' bed...

Flip side perspective on the camo: My Uncle had 2 IH Scouts he used in the woods for his chainsaws, gas and bar oil, etc. and they were "tractor" red. People would see them through the trees and he was always finding his stuff messed with or missing. He had them both repainted pine green and never had another issue...
