Good morning!!!!

Good morning. 32 heading to 60 depending on who you listen to. 3" of white stuff on the menu for tomorrow and tomorrow night. Got to get some lights for the range hood that work today. Yesterday one of the range hood lights burnt out so I went to Menards and got two LED R20 style replacements. The hood has high and low setting. The LEDs don't work in the hood but will work in the table lamps, why? I have no idea but a friend said that LED lamps don't draw enough current to trigger most TRIAC type dimmers. Now to figure out what a TRIAC type dimmer is. I don't think it is that style because the hood just has a high, low and off not a slider and the lights on the package said dimmable so I still don't know what they don't work in the range hood???

You guys should be able to do whatever you want today because this day don't exist most years so it should be a freebie day. Happy leap day.

Don, hope you had a happy birthday.

Does it work on the high setting? If so, Make sure the LED bulbs you bought are dimmable.

35.2F and overcast @ 09:15 ... high today is supposed to be 45F.

Yesterday I got the new siren that I recently bought mounted, the wire pulled, and hooked up to the panel. Also moved the inside siren, that had been located next to the alarm controller box, to the outside of the house. Not really sure why one would want to mount a siren inside, right next to the controller box ... since I would think that it would tend to lead an intruder right to it ... :confused2:

The new one was pretty easy, although I did have to get up in the attic. The relocation of the existing one was a bit of a PITA, trying to pull cable through insulated walls ... actually ended up just busting out the drywall in a couple of spots ... so I have that repair to do now.

Tested both ... I went outside around 50' from the house, and The Woman armed the alarm then opened a door, tripping the alarm and letting it go for about 15 or 20 seconds. It had just gotten dark and was pretty rude, so I didn't want it to run very long out of courtesy to the neighbors. She was within 15' of the new siren when she tripped it ... said it was actually painful ...

Alarm company is coming out tomorrow to discuss additional devices that can be installed and upgrades that might be done.

Gonna see if I can get that triple head, motion-sensing light mounted on the east wall and wired in today. Should be fairly easy, as I have power in the attic right by where it will be mounted. Might head over to The Depot and see what they have in the way of cheap motion-sensing flood lights, for a couple of other areas. Need to some fish tank maintenance, as well house cleaning.

Hope everyone has an enjoyable, productive, and safe day.

Yes they are dimmable. They don't work in the hood at all, but work in the table lamps just fine. Got me stumped.

Interesting. Never heard of that. Maybe your friend is on to something.

It's time I tried to get it back into use, ideally it needs to be moved 50 yards up the hill closer to the pond. It must have been set down while the concrete apron, poured over a brick base, was still wet. Gentle persuasion with a sledge hammer hasn't got it free. Any ideas on how to proceed would be welcome.

I'd be temped to put the forks on the FEL and just move the whole lot. A few minutes work with the backhoe would soon have it sitting level at the new location...

Around here you can be fined for mounting exterior sirens. Guess folks don't like being disturbed by false alarms. No one around here to hear it anyway when I'm gone, except the one neighbor, and they're the ones I worry about. So the siren goes inside, to wake you up if an intruder breaks the perimeter sensors. And I suppose the panel is a reasonable location for it, but a thief would likely gladly sacrifice his hearing to try to shut the blasted thing off.

Good morning! 51F @ 8:00 AM. Sunshine and a few clouds. High 73F. Winds NW at 5 to 10 mph.

You've got quite a green thumb there, Larro! Nice work.

My web partner and I were up pretty late last night installing an upgrade on the motorcycle club web site. It was almost midnight when we knocked off, not quite finished, so I stayed up a bit longer to make it to the "free zone" when my satellite data cap lifts. Started a map update for the GPS, and I see it finished after I went to bed. 3+ Gb wasn't worth waiting up for. Might end up taking a nap this afternoon; dozing in the sunshine on the back porch sounds awfully inviting...

Today is one all salaried employees hate, as they contribute their labor for free. Since I retired, it all pays the same, but the satellite Internet company gets to wait an additional day before resetting that mean old data cap for the month. Aught'a be a law that gives everyone the day off, as if the day didn't count.

Hope everybody's week gets off to a great start!

65°F and .07 inches rain last 24 hours.

Deck frame moved onto roof. Hopefully get it leveled, secured and Trex installed this morning. Pics if I do. I don't work on a wet metal roof so any rain could nix that plan.

Be safe
Have a great day

Our view of the night sky was also very clear last night, especially the twinkling of lights that can only occasionally be seen on distant hills. Part of me would like to look through a telescope and on a map to identify exactly where they are, although so far I have resisted that temptation, partially because it could destroy some of the magic, but mostly because I don't have a telescope :). I wanted to stay out for longer but dog finally insisted that we came back and check out the wood burner.

Eric,
We have this really neat, free app on our iPhone, SkyView. Just point the camera at a star and it gives you great info. Even used it to track the ISS.

Good morning! 62 degrees and way foggy this morning, forecast to76 degrees this afternoon. Happy Birthday Don! You should try one of the European River Cruises some day. We went on one (AMA Waterways) in Holland and Belgium last spring. Only 160 passengers so by the end of 8 days you know everyone on the boat. We prefer the AMA over the one you see advertised on TV due to AMA having much better staff to passenger ratio, very new boats.

We are doing the AMA cruise from Vilsofen to Budapest in Sep with some relatives.

Gary, My ship was also in the Western Caribbean. What lands did your ship dock at. Did you do any Shore excursions? David Sadamo, Is your cruise that 14 day AH Cruise? That is a long time. I'm usually ready to be finished by day 6. 68˚ cloudy, windy.

Don, yup, the 15 niter, Holland America. Our first cruise so don't know how it will go.

load of sand delivered, got about half of it spread, two loads of crusher run coming tomorrow. Finally a relatively dry opportunity to get things delivered without a mud
disaster. Came in for a break, back down to the barn to powerwash all the equipment. Begone mud. Well, for awhile...

looked at various roofing products at Lowes this morning, didn't find anything not in commercial size, so settled for a smaller roll of 6 mil plastic to line the raised garden. The fancy synthetic membrane looked pretty impressive, and so was the price. For one quarter that, plastic buried under dirt will do just fine. I had a choice of clear or black and I chose clear. Some monel staples and I'll be all set. Will cover the edge with a strip of molding. I want the top covered also so thought I'd just line up with the outer edge, staple it and run it over and down the side, stapling away. Even with rustless staples I'm going to cover the exposed edge simply for looks. Now if I could find some pressure treated v molding...
Not like ground contact 6x6's are rotting any time soon, so I might as well do it right because it will be here to remind me if I don't.

am envious of you guys already planting and growing.

back to work.
WORK! screeched Maynard G Krebs...

btw...I know toxic wood like ground contact is not the best choice for near vegetables.
But I had it for another purpose, a temporary bridge, and figured i might as well use what I have.
Run what you brung...so i do have the extra step of insulating the chemicals.

David;

You will really like the AMA Boats. We were on the AMA Sonata last year and sprung for a stateroom with a private balcony.

Very nice trip and the day excursions were excellent!

Well going down to the basement to run trains tonight, cause I can.
Stocked the porch with wood today and they are calling for another blast of winter tomorrow. All in all this year has been a cake walk. Have a good night.

Woke up to a wet morning and a sky that looks as though it is quite happy to keep on raining. Thanks for all the suggestions on the water trough, I will let you know how it goes.

I forgot to say that the lambs started to arrive at the weekend. With a cold wind they haven't been too active, mostly staying curled tight and only getting up to move around when mum calls them over for a warm drink. Two of them thought an old water tank would make a good home.
