TBN'ers We need to be nice!!!!

I agree Ed, I had been awhile since i has signed into TBN. When I read post it seem sometimes they go south fast and run off track with arguments. I try to watch what posts I reply too and some members that I try to avoid. One comment can destroy a whole thread.

It seems like when I first joined it was not like this. I do not have as many posting under my belt as some of you guys. I might have a lot more if some members would become more civil on what they post. I also think we have all gone down that rabbit hole one time or another.

I must live a sheltered life. The threads I read here are friendly and polite, informative, helpful. I've been reading TBN since 2003 and simply don't see the changes described above.

'Friendly' Politics is the only exception.

I have been Known to say things that I need say sorry for later, everyone does. I just hope we can as a group try to put others feelings ahead of our opinions. I also don't see a problem with saying, I or we could help you better if we had a pic or video, but we have no right to demand anything of anyone except that they obey the rules of TBN. Ed

When I reply to a thread, I usually have my 'life experience' that I am relaying to the OP. If someone tries to call "Bull S***" on it I don't really care that much. I will just unsubscribe from the thread and move on. I try not to offend in forums or in real life.

You will never hear/see 'dont do that' from me. Nor will you ever hear/see me call 'BS' on what another poster says.

We all have different personalities in here and I try to get along with everybody. At one time I had two people in my ignor list, but since then have removed them, mainly because if they post in a thread it makes the thread hard for me to read with the gap the IL makes.

Like I said before, I think most times people are asked for pictures or a video are truly in the interest of helping them out. It is very hard sometimes across thousands of miles of ethernet cable to get an idea of whats going on. And a simple picture or video can really clear things up in a hurry and get to the bottom of an issue.

And there is nothing wrong with not agreeing with someone. If everyone agreed on everything all the time, this would be a pretty lame forum. Its the differences that bring out GOOD discussions and learning experiences. Differences in operating equipment, differences in building styles, differences in how to cook something, etc. Sure, sometimes it can go too far and get into personal attacks. But I think for the most part it stays civil. There have been some good discussions, and I have learned lots, that have stemmed out of a disagreement on something.

As Canadians we soon learn that we need to avoid talking of guns and the right to own them as well as politics with our southern neighbors.
However I do admit following your election process on TV to be most fascinating. I get the impression that the money spent on your primaries could exceed our national budget, or at least that of many smaller countries.

But then we also have our quirks, like don't speak English in a french bar in some parts of Quebec as you could end up wearing your drink. To some, 'protecting french' is about as hot a topic as the right to bear arms.

Going back a number of years (FLQ days) we sort of had our own immigration issues when hoards of English speaking Quebecois left Quebec for Ontario.
And now our current hot issue is that Quebec wants to maintain its own long gun registry as if it is needed, but that is yet to happen. ( As if a .22 or a bird gun is a weapon of mass destruction or an assassin's weapon of choice.)

Politics and religion are the two topics I stay away from. I wont discuss them in person, so why would I in a forum?

Now guns is a different game. I LIKE guns and have owned several in the past, but the way the law is here I can't own any mainly because you MUST be licensed to own them and I can't due to one of the rules in the licensing procedure, [and it has nothing to do with a criminal record] {I don't have one}.

As far as I can tell, guns ARE "religion and politics" for many, very vocal, people. So those discussions are about as fruitful.

This used to be a nice forum and still is to a large extent. Many people are kind, caring, and this is a wide spread family of tractor nuts. Lately it seems that there are grown people acting like school kids. They are rude and insulting. If you can't prove it to me then I don't think you have a problem. In other words people owe them a video and if they don't get it the other person is a fibber. It is a shame, makes me feel bad for the person with the problem and the person who thinks that way. Wonder how many people have not joined, or left TBN because of junk like that? :2cents: Ed

I haven't noticed anything that's different from the way TBN has been. The trolls come and go. Put them on your ignore list if you don't want to see what they post.

I do not see a problem.
Yes, there are rude and offensive posts. I would rather not see them but I also do not want to see thought police. I may not agree with someone but I think they can say what they want.
Sometimes, I get upset with someones post. I try to not lower my standards, which is sometimes hard to do.
I also remind myself that this is the internet and some things can be easily misinterpreted.
I think maybe someone might take offense to my posts. Hopefully if someone is that offensive that often the moderator will band them. I have not seen anyone that offensive.

Good topic.

Sometimes one's life experience can save others from major faults. I had a hydraulic problem and was advised one procedure (A). I did something different, (B), luckily, and later was advised "don't do that" referring to procedure (A). If I had done procedure (A) it would have blown my hydraulic pump.

Many people give advice freely based ONLY on their life experience and expect it to apply world wide. It is often worth the price or less because of different environments.

Laws, climate, soils, etc. all vary greatly around the world. I can rely on being easily able to skid my logs through my swamp in Northern Vermont in January, but not my swamps in Mississippi. My trailer in Virginia needs inspecting, not in Mississippi.

Pictures can be essential to diagnosing a problem, but I'm not here JUST to ask and solve problems, I like to look at pictures of nice equipment.

Personal attacks outside of Friendly Politics can often be solved when others complain about bullying. Some people just seem to go off their meds and have diarrhea of the keyboard.

The board does suffer some though when people take over a thread just to argue their way is better when both ways work, it's difficult to winnow the wheat from the chaff.

I guess I haven't noticed the change you guys speak of.

It takes all kinds to make up this forum.

There are lots of issues where a video or picture can be worth a thousand words. If I need a picture or video to help someone out with a problem, I have no issues asking for one. Its not because I dont believe they have a problem. Its because I really want to help, but am unable to due so based on their description of the problem.

I am sure we have all see the threads lacking serious detail. Like "My tractor wont start, can you please help". And nothing more...

I think Ed was just using that as an example.

I've noticed a tendency of some posters to claim themselves as the "expert" and you either support their theory or you are the enemy. Sometimes I get myself into those discussions and before you know it am being attacked. I've learned to use smiley faces and expressions liberally. For the social readers that works. For those that just want to argue it doesn't. Then it's easy to separate who's who. :)

I also have a couple really good friends on here that retrieve me from the fray when they see me fall off the edge. We all need that once in awhile.

Lastly, I pay no attention to sarcasm from posters who are not contributing to the subject at hand.

I was just a little concerned at the way things were headed about people asking for pics or videos. The tone of this thread makes it sound like some get upset when a picture is asked for???

I know I frequently request a picture when trying to help someone out. No offense meant to anyone, but sometimes people can be lacking in their descriptions, or have terminology wrong, or just different lingo for different regions. And a simple picture can help clear things up. Or maybe its just something I havent seen before and am curious.

It seems to me the issue is not requesting pictures for informational or entertainment but rather demanding them for "proof".
