Will this tractor (BX2670--26HP) handle a Woods 48" rotary cutter? It weighs in a 400+ pounds...

Any suggestions as to how much weight might need to be placed on the front end?

Thanks...BCB

Yes it will, we use a 48" Land Pride RCR1548 weight 424 lbs. on our BX2200 and BX2660.

I don't know about the front ballast as I always have the FEL on when bush hogging.

Thanks...

I wonder what it will be like with just the hoist on the front without the bucket?...

That FEL is so dang clumsy...

The reason I ask this is that I thought I might just take the bucket off, but let the lift arms in place--even when mowing?...

Maybe this isn't practical?...

That loader is the most miserable thing to attach if it is not on concrete or absolutely level ground...

I don't have any trouble. Stop about a foot forward, hook up PTO, then back up and hook mower with quick hitch.

Once you do it a few times, the loader is very easy to remove/install, I've done it on grass, rock and concrete.

I agree the FEL can make it a it harder to maneuver and obstructs your view. I've taken the FEL off on our L5740 before and liked it, but we have a lot of hills, so I rarely remove it anymore.

With the low ground clearance and easily damaged boots on the BX, I use the FEL and bucket to knock brush etc. down.

I have a 2-acre field to keep cut-down. I presently mow it and it is just too time consuming to mow it with deck used to mow my lawn. I was going to let it grow and hit it a couple of times in the summer rather than the weekly-10 day rotation...

I do have a slight hill, probably 40 feet long, and although not real steep, I still have concern about the brush hog being so heavy that it might lift the front end of the tractor...

If climb the hill with the brush hog completely down, as if mowing with it, will that eliminate the front end coming off the ground...

Also, what about going back down the hill? I am a bit scared of sliding even in 4wd with the differential locked...

My basic concern is the fact that the brush hog is heavy and it might be a struggle for the 2670 to handle it safely...

Thanks...BCB

Is your BX2670 a hydro transmission ? If so then your pto hp is only rated at 19.6 hp not the 26 hp. You lose hp at the pto with a hydro. Looks like the woods bb48 will work for you. I just bought one for my Kioti ck27. Great cutter. I keep my FEL down to knock over tall weeds and small saplings, plus it helps with the ballast up front. I just avoid going sideways on a hill, either straight up or straight down.

Check the quote again. He said loader, not mower.

Really all any of us can do is speculate. Since I have a BX2200 and BX2660, I just leave the cutter on the BX2200 most of the time as we use it on two or three different farms sometimes even in the winter, so there is always a FEL on. The FEL on a 2200 is a bit of an aggravation to remove/install. We've got some pretty steep hills and never had any issues going up/down hills as to traction. I doubt you will have issues on flat ground and yes, keeping the cutter down will help keep the front down. I have a long clearing to mow with my L5740HSTC up a STEEP hill, it won't carry the cutter up raised, so I lower it and have no issues.

I would just buy the cutter, try it out and add weight as needed, there are a couple of threads on making a weight holder for the BX.

These little tractors are handy as heck and capable of doing more work than most people realize. We have bigger tractors with 5', 6', and 10' cutters, but still find a use for our BXs.

I mow a total of about 8 acres with mine. The brush hog thing is for about 2.5 acres of the 8 as I want to let it grow up and just hit it a couple of times per year...

Some of the areas I mow are quite steep and I need the 4wd. It hangs right on the side of the hill with no problem at all...

I have a loader on my 2670 and I use it much more than I ever thought I would...

I started out with an 18 hp BX years ago and just kept upgrading hp until I am at 26 now...

Any of the BX models would chew-up 2.5 acres with ease...

Good-luck...BCB

I had a B-2710 which was 27 HP with 20 HP at PTO. I had Bush Hog SQ-60 cutter that was a 5' width. The Kubota ran it just fine. Will 48" cutter cover the width of your rear tires?

Nope, the 48" won't be wider than the tractor. I was wondering about that also, but I don't know how much that will effect the way it would cut. I might get "windrows" where the rear tires pack the grass down...

I am pretty sure I don't want to deal with a 5-footer though!!!...

Maybe as time goes by, I can see one working and then get some idea. My Kubota dealer might have a used one to try...

Thanks...BCB
