if directed at me - i cannot get it to start to see it flashing related to a statement in the thread i did not read. sorry
Black ops you may want to pull out the GPs and test. Also put test light on GP power strip and check for power.

I to have had this cold start issue with my max28 hst. Sits in a barn but if it is below freezing it just does not want to start. I bought a magnetic heater to put on the oil pan and in about 10 minutes it starts right up. There must be an issue if some do not have this problem. Please post an update if the dealer fixes the hard start.
Thanks,

Please post what your dealer did to solve the issue. I just spoke to my DSR and he said the GPs should come back on when you are cranking.

I certainly will share what the problem was and its resolution. I just hope we don't get hit too hard with snow Friday.

It was a balmy 37F tonight in NH, so I decided it was a good time to load it up for the dealer visit Saturday.
The Max started right up. I had the throttle on full, used 2 glow plug cycles and it caught right away.
I used the Max to dig out the trailer and pull it out so I could load.
I had to drop the BB from the quick hitch and shoveled the 6" of wet snow out the back of the trailer.
I had no trouble slipping on the wet steel ramps and was able to get the Max28 loaded. I left the counter weight and quick hitch on the 3 Pt. With the front guard on the Max the rear tires are near the edge of the load floor of the little cut off horse trailer. I need to secure the tractor well!

Yeah the Max28 starts up easy in this weather. It was just below freezing and the engine turned over about 3 times and started. I brought it to Knoxland Equipment today. I hope it gets very cold next week. I'll pick it up next Saturday. They have some inventory now. I never realized there was such a weight difference between the 25XX and 35XX series Mahindra's.

Tommorow I give my 2003 Cobra a good car wash and do some barn cleaning. Wierd for January!

Report from dealer that there is nothing wrong with the MAx28's GP, GP Relay or fuel cutoof solinoid.
Service manager said only on the newer Tier 4 Max 26 models does the GP light Blink after 30 Seconds.
So why is tthe above stated in the Max28 Instruction manual?

Bringing Tractor Home Saturday.

Dealer suggested a $300 Block heater.

Mike you may want to look at installing a lower radiator hose heater. it's an easy install. I've had mine in for a couple of weeks and my Max starts right up in the cold weather. Part was about $40 at the automotive store.

Out of all the XL series iv been around iv not once seen a glow plug light flash... it stays on for the amount of time the light is on... the light can be on but plugs not working... if you think its not working turn the key on the manually put 12vs to the glow plug rail.

As I said before the lower radiator hose heater cured the cold start problem on my Max 28. They're around $20 on ebay. I bought the zerostart 1 1/4" one and it slipped right into the hose where I cut it. No trimming needed. Plug it in for about an hour before starting or more depending on the outside temp.

I went to get My Max28 today at the dealer.

The owner of the dealershp was there, not the service manager. I suspect the Service manger never got "Hands On" with my little tractor, as they has a big new Mahindra split in half with a warrantee motor replacement.

It was low 20's and I could not start my tractor.

Dealership owner was very nice, letting me start some other Max's and a 1500 seriees on the lot. They fired right up instantly after a GP cycle. I agree with owner of dealership that a block heater is reqiured in Antartica, not New Hampshire, with the exception of last winter where it hit -20 to below -30F in a few spots.
This winter it only hit the teens a few times. I've only burned 3 cord or less of wood this year, usually go through at least 4 to 5 cords by now..
Later it warmed up to about 30 F and tractor was in sun. I got the tractor started. Owner of dealership said this is not right and I left it there and drove home. I checked the fuel filter, clear and no ice in clear bowl. Fuel was not cloudy. There is another metal can filter with horizontal inlet & outlet, but I did not pull the spring Clamps off line to seee if water was in it? I use same fuel in all my machines and the Komatsu and Kubota's start ok. I plowed snow first thing in the AM.

Hoping for cold weather to get this sorted out. Owner said they would drain fuel and check lines, but he did not think it was fuel either.

I'm careful not to get snow/rain in fuel and it runs just fine warmed up. This can't be that complicated, we just need to find out "Duh, that's it!"

I bet it is something stupid and it affects a bunch of engines, becauses the Mahindra tractors I sttarted on the lot fitred right up with little or no smoke or chugging. To me a heater is a band aid in above zero degree F. weather.

I did a slight modification on my 2216 as it wasn't starting well in colder weather. The strip that connected the glow plugs is a light weight aluminum strip and I had found the nuts holding it in place were not snugged up particularly tight. The engine sounded like it was only catching on one cylinder when it was starting and then the others finally would catch and smooth out. Not sure if the aluminum strip wasn't making a good connection and figured if I was going to mess with it, I'd replace it with copper jumpers. Aluminum was probably OK, just feel better with copper :) The engine does sound better now on start and sounds like all cylinders are catching right away.

The hose heater is cheap enough, I may add one at some point in time.

Re: Max28 and cold Weather, daler Stumped

Called dealer today.

They said it starts with a booster. Dealer tried new battery that did not work. Im told the dealer called Mahindra tech support, but their usual contact is in training this week.

They are following Mahindra direction, but they are apparnetly stumped also.

I live my machine but I agree it should start up without a block heater unless it would be -20 or even at zero i could possibly understand that. but at 10 it should not just sit there going aaaaaarrrrrraaaaarrrrrrraaaaaarrrr.

the local dealers are so local they do not know a thing about weird situations like this - if it were something obvious the one maybe could get it and the other I believe they are qualified.

I'm curious, Have anyone of you with the cold start issues considered a lower viscosity engine oil? I know Mahindra has had reports on some models with the throttle being unresponsive on start up in cold weather. Turned out the 15w40 oil was a little thick and causing the governor not to work properly.Maybe a little thinner oil will let the engine spin a little quicker.Lets face it too. The battery's Mahindra uses are not the best.:confused3:

What is weird is that these use exactly the same engine as the 3016, and no reports of engine starting problems come up with them.

What's the difference here?

Mine has the original battery, and last year I had dino oil in it and it never took more than a turn or two of the starter before it started. I even added a battery tender which I don't use.

This year I changed to synth Rotella T6 oil and it starts even easier.
