I have a Sears Kenmore two slice toaster given to us as a wedding gift 50 years ago. I works just fine - if I remember to adjust the little knob between toast & muffins.

However - that was back in the days when small kitchen appliances were made to last.

Yeah, but that was then and this is now. Need to find a current model I can buy that will handle toast and maybe an occasional wide slice of homemade. We would like to try crumpets but can't find any.

Agreed, those old toasters were great. Maybe a fire hazard but they could handle a slice of bread. You were smart enough to hang onto yours while I bought the line that newer was better and got a new one. Sigh.

And to stay on track, still no email notices.

No email notices for me either. I double checked that I had them enabled and they are. So I am going to write off that perk and get on with life.

Very important observation as english muffins require a wee bit more time. Then if you forget to dial 'the little knob' back you end up with burnt toast.

You might try placing a small pen mark at your desired levels for consistency. Mine is usually around the 2.3 mark for muffins and 2'ish for my 'toast sliced' (thicker) bread. Why the knob goes all the way (international toast calibration standard?) to 6, I have no idea? That would be for sending smoke signals!

Oh, and I'm still not receiving email notifications.

Wow, really a 50 year old toaster, where was that made? that deserves taking a picture of and posting. It's probably worth more now then when it was bought.

Just unplug it when not it use. I remember all the toaster fires of the 1960's and 1970's that started house fires.

My wife still complains to me about unplugging the toaster when not in use. I don't see how a toaster can start a fire when the button isn't pushed down. Seam's to me when the button is pushed down only then the toaster is on, right, wrong, yes, no, maybe, someone should test this theory by sticking their finger's in the toaster's slot so I'll know for sure. Just file it under some government scientific study and you might get paid for it, not only that but it will keep us occupied till the email alerts starts working again.

We recently bought the cheapest 2 slice toaster Bed, Bath and Beyond had, and no complaints so far. I never realized folks have so much trouble with toasters.

Oldpath05--

In the 1960's I think it was the switch that went bad. Apparently they just started on their own and heated until the thing caught something on fire. Fast forward to all the toaster ovens that caught fire in the 1970's and I think it was the same problem. In fact, we have a couple year old, high dollar convection toaster oven and my wife says to unplug it when not in use. She says it's in the owner's manual. Even these days you occasionally hear of a toaster or toaster oven fire issue.

Actually, and I forgot about this but our toaster oven makes better toast than the toaster. Wife won't let me use it as a toaster, however, even though it's a "toaster oven".

I just checked and still no email notification.

It might as well be a toaster thread now whilst we wait for the email notices to be fixed.

Besides that, Coyote machine needs our help finding a toaster that works and this is TBN's forte!

The man's in strife (what with his slices being held hostage and all)!

Here is the only USA made toaster I can find for C.M. and it's only $700.00, probably comes with a tail light guarantee too. If I lived in Vermont, I'd by this this toaster because I heard the average income is $100.000.00/year, mostly from making maple syrup.

And still email notices, I'd call 911 if I knew the number............

Late to the party but my email notifications also stopped. Just waiting for them to kick back in and then decide to back date till when they stopped. Letting us sort through a few hundred notifications.

As for the toaster. Never owned one. We have a toaster oven. Two functions and does a good job.

We use triple zero [000]. Although the system will recognise '911', due to tourists, and default to '000'. I don't know if any other country's emergency number also defaults whilst in Aus.

No email notifications as yet... and my toaster is working great!

You live in Maine and think Vermonters make a $100K off maple syrup?! Wow! I wish. If so I'd buy a $700 toaster for sure. BTW, I heard you Maniacs make $200K off lobstas!:licking::laughing:
Why don't you send me your extra toaster, since you make way more than me?!:confused3:

Still waiting on some emails here....

Notifications are light here too of late, if not nonexistent.

I thought maybe you guys were just getting wise to me.

Oh, email notifications mean a LOT! Now that we're not getting them, they're sorely missed.

So, what's the toaster situation in Nebraska? What with all the wheat you're involved in producing, bread & toast must be an important part of your day.

I have "Home Page" at the top of the screen set as my start page and it displays all my updated subscriptions on one page. It's actually easier than the email thing that has only worked for me on an occasional basis.

It would be a nice surprise to get my wife a new two slice toaster for a gift but I don't have a clue of which brand would be a reliable one. The last time I saw a Consumer's Reports it seemed the cheapest ones were rated the best. Last time I bought a toaster I figured more money meant a better toaster and that thinking hasn't worked out. Any toaster brand name suggestions would be welcome.

So would email notifications too, but I don't think we'll ever see those. There does seem to be fewer double posts, however.

Hey sixdogs! I just got an email notice for your post #57!!!!

Is our long, international, email-notification-dirge over? Will we return to the halcyon days of waking to 15+ TBN communiques?

And what about our quest for the ultimate toaster!?! (And, no, toaster-ovens don't count)

Holy cow, no toast but I did get a notification overnight!
