If it's just leaking then I recommend installing seal kit. This can be accomplished by loosening big adjuster nut on the top of housing and turning shaft(parts key 1 & valves) CCW to remove shaft while housing(parts key 3) stays attached to tractor. The 6 big o-rings can be a pain in the rear to install correctly in their appropriate lands but it can be accomplished. If for any reason you decide to remove the 2 valve bodies from shaft take extreme care to document(photograph) location of shims as correct shimming affects correct operation of PS. HTH's & good luck,Jim

Thank you for answering so soon....

I was ploughing and the tractor's wheel crashed with a big stone...and the PS failed...after that is working only rarelly and it work only manual and hardly...

I have some questions related with the attached photos:

-first, the PS repairing kit is it the same as on the photo?!

- on 3 photos you can see an used PS tower from Germany....but...I think it is not the same as on my tractor... and it is also not the same as on the fifth photo, which is a new one....

Finally, is it recomended to buy it or not? I mean the old /used one.....has for JD 1020, but a little different....

From viewing your photo's are you positive your tractor had power steering and not manual steering? I do not remember power steering housing having a plug similar to parts key 10 in your or parts photo!!!!!!!!!!!!

The high pressure oil entering hole?! In my JD this piece is located on the right side...at the bottom...in the photos...this piece is located on the backside...in the middle part..splayed...
The dealer asks for this piece only 10&..does it worst tó buy it or not...I hope it is a working piece...But...but...the middle part of the piece looks like not the same...squared vs. circular....
Good night......Jim....

The hole in photo is the one I was referring to and it's not a hyd high pressure connection orifice.

Hyd return hole for PS is in the very bottom of PS housing joining a hole in clutch housing then leading back to trans case.

Where does hose in last photo attach to hyd's? It is the supply hose for power steering.

Hi, the hose is attched the bottom with the header pipe which comes from the hyd pump....

Originally, the hose is a steel pipe which broke and I replaced it with a flexible new rubber hose... the original can be seen on the photos....

Tx Jim....

:confused3:

I have a question.... is it possible that the second hand piece is for manual steering models, not for PS ones....????!!!

I do not know how does it look like or how does it work the manual one.............

1st let me state my knowledge of tractors built for European sales such as your tractor is very limited but I was employed by a JD dealer for over 21 yrs from '66-'87. The parts photo for power steering housing for your tractor doesn't show the plug I inquired about. IIRC hole in 2nd photo is utilized to add oil to a manual steering housing. 3rd photo is manual steering housing but I think manual steering housing doesn't have hole at the bottom for supply line to attach. OK I'm confused!!!!!!! Can you supply a casting number from your tractors steering housing???

First, after this, I believed that you saved me unnecessary acquisition....

Please, take a look on the each photo, on which you will see the base of both pieces, with joins/pivots....

It is almost totally sure that the second hand piece is really a manual sterring, without oil pressure a.s.o.

Casting number - should be on the cast-iron piece?
DSCF7026.jpg And - really, my JD 1020 is the european model one, made in JD's factory from Mannheim, Germany, from 1974.

I never doubted that your tractor was built in Mannheim. I agree with you I think the red arrow is aimed at parts key 24 of parts photo I posted for a ""manual steering"'' housing. I looked at parts catalog again and no casting number for manual steering housing is listed but these casting numbers are on PS housing( T25295 OR R77312)

Hello,

I found two numbers - at the top - R 6804 or 8 6804 and at the bottom - T25295, as you is mentioned to me.

You might want to remove the Half moon shaped cover on right side to see if anything is broken there. SInce you hit a hole, steering arm could be bent or broken. The steering valve assembly may be ok.

Are you refering to the pieces from the attached photos?!

WP_20151025_14_57_41_Pro.jpgWP_20151025_14_57_47_Pro.jpgWP_20151025_14_58_00_Pro.jpg

And the part key 3 / the gasket - why is....against the oil-escape or against only the powder....

There cant be oil pression - thats whay I ask about this.... Tomorrow I will dissassemble that cover..... The steering is working, but almost only manually..... verry rarelly the PS is working.... Its seems to mee as if some piece sometimes tight or constipated...and moving hardly.........
