Just purchase a used set of Bradco pallet forks.

Some of the paint was worn off and there was some light rust area.

I lightly sand the complete frame removing the rust and loose paint.

Looking for suggestions on how and what to apply to repaint the frame.

I wouldn't bother. Even the best paint quickly wears off.

SEMI-GLOSS black Rustoleum here, Sis. Semi gloss is what John Deere uses on its black painted stuff... More better ..... :)

I will either apply by brush or use a spray can.

How many spray can will I need to paint the frame?

Hard to say... I try to paint all my stuff either Rustoleum Sunrise Red or Semi-Gloss black.. So, if you do the same... buy several... and paint stuff with the extra. [ that's what's it fer... :) ] I even buy some blue or green sometimes and paint my shovels/etc....

Call around and get pricing for powder coating.
I have two sets of the forks pictured for moving pallets of bees. (Notice the smoker holder)
I had both of them powder coated a few years ago and they still look perfect.

Are you talking about the frame or the forks? I see no point in painting the forks, that paint will get scraped off in a jiffy if you actually use them. The parts of the frame the forks slide on will be paint free pretty quick too.

Jerry,
I needed sleep. All I use is gloss rustoleum. All my other black paint is black.
Now, the OP has a Kubota and didn't say anything about JD. Where did you come up with JD?:confused3: You know anyone with part or all of a tractor's mfg. in their user name is biased.

Just added JD cuz' I have owned a few of them, and the semi-gloss matches their ' black ' stuff... I don't try to paint all my implements the color of the tractor, just stick with Sunrise Red, semi-gloss black, and sometimes just Rustoleum undercoat brown... [ If you would ever quit that late night work thing, your sleep problem would get better... PLUS, you get more PLAY TIME..!! ]

I have a friend who professionally restores antique vises and anvils. We just spoke and he highly
recommends using Hammerite Rust Cap paint for coating metal. Advises using a
brush on application of their hammered finish. His work is quite impressive.

Is there any way to treat the bare steel tines to prevent corrosion?

Jerry,
I don't have a sleep problem. I sleep just fine in the daylight. I get plenty of playtime....in the summer. Barn and shop lights make do in the winter. If I got a day job, I wouldn't have Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off and I wouldn't be able to afford as many toys, uh......tools for work. Besides, if I wanna play in the sunshine................I just stay up...........while you go to work!
Getting back to the thread..............what all do you undercoat in brown?

When I want to protect a bare finish, like my bucking bars at work, I paint them with Krylon Crystal Clear.

I used to have a single gang trip disk and an Oliver 3pt dbl bottom plow that I painted brown. Now, most of my stuff is Sunrise Red. Except my snow blower, which is painted with [ and touched up each spring ] with the semi-gloss black. I used to work many years on 3rd shift so I could have the daytime off...
