Need recommendations

I'm planning in the next future to buy a small excavator.
Can you guys give me a couple of advice?
I would like to mention that I'm looking for cheap alternatives, under $10.000

Generally with equipment the less money you spend up front the more money you are going to have in repairs. What do you mean by "small" excavator? ? Are you talking a 331 bobcat at around 7k lbs or are you talking a 312 cat that is much closer to 15 tons? A better question would be what are your specific intended uses? Matching the machine to the job is something that needs strong consideration.

Excavators hold their value well unless beat to crap. I'd be very wary of buying anything in that price range. Consider buying one a bit more than twice that price, using it for a year, then selling. Heck of a lot cheaper than renting...or buying a fixer-upper.

I have a small excavator on my "wish list." My brother is an excavating contractor that has a 9 ton machine, so I am looking in the 2-3 ton class. I know I haven't found anything worthwhile for less than 12-17k in that class. I don't think $10,000 would get much in the size the OP is considering.
