BX25 Backhoe Bucket Pin Stuck

I went to remove my BH bucket, with plans to install my ripper tooth. The first pin came out like expected, but the second wouldn't budge. I tapped on it lightly with a copper rod, no effect. Nothing LOOKS visible damaged or bent but I'm sure it wouldn't take much.

I'm wary to force the pin out, if that's even possible, with more force in case.

Are these pins known to bend? Suggestions? Experiences?

Oh, I reused the pin. The use punch to move the pin, and it will prevent any damage. I have learned quite a bit in one year, mostly that the tractor can do A LOT! and so can I. After that, I have learned that grease and lubrication helps. And just this morning, I learned NOT to read threads about tipping over.

I had the same issue with a B2620. Got a BIG hammer and a big drive pin punch. don't hit the BH pin head, it will "mushroom" .

they shouldn't mushroom as they are hardened wear pins.

Not sure about that,,,,, One bucket pin I had to cut out on my mini-excavtor - cut like butter. It was the softest steel I ever cut. They do that so the pin wears instead of the bore, protecting the more expensive and difficult-to-repair components. The pin is (normally) easy to replace, and low cost.

You don't want to mushroom the end because with a fat end it will be just that much more difficult to pound out. You have to arrange your punch such that you pound it only near the center (don't pound near the edges!). If it does mushroom some, grind off the larger diameter before you put it back in.

It shouldn't be that hard to get out. All the greased interfaces will slide easily. The non-greased interfaces need to be lubed with a penetrating oil such as Liquid Wrench, or PB Blaster. Or any light oil, such as diesel with a little oil mixed in. Post a pic of this pin that won't come out, maybe someone can see the problem in your pic.

This is a pin out of the front end loader on my bx25 it snapped while digging/loading rock. took it to the dealer an he said that it is odd for the pins to break cause they are hardened. I asked if I could get a better/stronger one an he said they are all made out of the same material. If you run a file across it it doesn't cut easily. Notice it broke in the grease valley. Might just be a gimik to make more money

Thank you for explaining it. My experience is that what shouldn't happen does, what should be easy isn't, and why take the chance? Lub, grease, and penetrating oil. And the help of others. Priceless.

It sure depends which person you talk to at the dealer, usually somebody knows something just not everyone.

When I was setting up to replace the pin on my excavator I was going to buy drill rod & some knowledgable TBN members told me I was thinking wrong. I went to a heavy eqpt repair shop and he said same thing, pins are soft. Then when I cut my bent pin out with a sawzall, it was almost like cutting an Oak dowel, so yes it was very soft. Would probably plug up a file, like filing lead. Your pin was hard enough to crack though, can't imagine my pin cracking unless it was bent back and forth like a piece of wire.

Certainly there can be a case where they needed more pin strength and used a hard rod. Maybe if the bushings are replaceable? Thx for clarifying.

Had the same problem, I kept one hand on the pin and slow raised and lowered the boom up and down while i turned and pulled pin out.
