pleased to report hummingbirds are now coming to my one little plastic cheap feeder on the gazebo. The nice glass one was ignored; they couldn't figure out where to drink I suppose. Need to get a feeder closer to a window so I can see them better.

an old friend of mine sent me this link to a video about what real boat buying should be like...

check out the hp label on the outboard....yup.

TxDon, got your ZZTop tshirt on?

Good morning! A report from the morning underachievers (we really need to have a name for the most laid back of the morning group) - you know the ones that can make an entire days work with a project like filling the truck with gas. (I probably don't need gas but I will by the time I drive to town). Still thinking about that culvert/backhoe project - it probably will require at least 2 more weeks of contemplation.

County burn ban is in effect so maybe our VFD will not be threatened with work either. - oh wait - this is the week (a 2 week prep) the VFD starts to turns the field into a restaurant for 1200 - tables, benches, tents, cookers, big water fans, ice, etc, etc. . .. I notice the guy with the biggest mower has already mowed the field - good job - but we still need to remove the cow pies - I know it's August in Texas and the pies are crust in 2 days but we have out standards.

75˚ heading to 101˚ and this is with the wind switching from the north. Tomorrow will be the hottest day of the year topping out at 104˚, but then I see some 99˚ days in the 15 day forecast. Every time I'm in the sun I feel like I am getting a lethal dose of radiation and it burns to the core. I can tell whenever the temp hits 100˚ my ears start burning. I am sooooo ready for some 60˚ temps in the morning.

Until then lets all join in and sing . . .

73 this morning and headed to 86 today. Thunderstorms in the forecast for this afternoon. Then mid 80's all week. This is August right? I didn't sleep for like a month did I? I'm not complaining, I am NOT complaining. Just asking.

Broken record review. Back to chicken coops. Then maybe mow if storms hold off.

68F @ 6:00 AM. A mix of clouds and sun. A stray shower or thunderstorm is possible. High near 90F. Winds SSE at 10 to 15 mph.

Eric, one of the toughest steaks I ever had was on a birthday in Wales. Maybe it, too, was from a bull? More likely it was just severely overcooked, as there was not a sign of any juice and it was gray in the middle. The only thing tougher that day turned out to be my motorcycle tire. As I left the bike to go into the restaurant I noticed a shiny spot on the tire, and a closer look showed it to be the head of a screw. I didn't want to get all dirty trying to repair it just then, instead waiting until after the meal. When I use a pair of pliers to extract the screw, the expected rush of air didn't follow, and the time honored drop of spit didn't bubble, either. That was one of the best birthday presents a motorcyclist can wish for, and more than fair compensation for a very, very well cooked English fillet.

Good luck keeping the Roundup in all the right places, Drew. In the past I've used paint brushes and even rollers to eliminate the spray, especially when working around flowers and shrubs.

Rumour spreadin' a-'round in that Texas town
'bout that shack outside La Grange
and you know what I'm talkin' about.

Gotta agree, La Grange was one of the boys' best, and also that the best way to enjoy it is on a good stereo...

Don, I thought Texans all wore white ten gallon hats to keep their ears from burnin' in that hot sun. Or is that only on "Dallas"?

Finally got off my butt and tore into the K-bike yesterday, pulling the transmission in preparation for an engine rear main seal replacement. Lots more surface corrosion to clean up, and I'm running out of places to put the parts, but no unpleasant surprises, either. As expected, the bell housing was covered in a fine film of oil from the leaking seal, but I'd rather see that than everything dry, an indicator that I'd just gone through all that for nothing.

This morning before the wind picks up I'll go around and spot spray the star thistle that got missed last month, then add some triclopyr to the mix and go after the sprouts of poison oak that have sprung up since the last spraying. Then back into the garage to work some more on the bike; I'd like to get that all back together this week.

Hope everyone has a great work week...

I think I need tin foil, the radiation goes right through my 15 gallon hat.:cowboy:

If you go with tin foil, don't forget the ground strap. The EPA sez omitting the strap leads to charge accumulation in the foil, and if the sun is strong enough, arcing from one side of the crown to the other.

too funny. I be arcin'...

those hats with little fans are probably not a bad idea

washed the truck, washed the golf cart, put down roundup for an hour, mowed the entire lawn, and I quit.
Took a nice dunk in the hot tub, felt good, every time I use it I say to myself that felt good, I should use it more often. Particularly after mowing when I've bounced around for hours and my neck is unhappy from the gyrations.
