kubota 7800
Well boys Ive done it this time... I was brushhogging on an incline, came to a fallen tree on the ground, tried to back up, couldnt. Tried to pull forward maybe a foot. Started to slide towards the ditch and like slow motion, I rolled over onto my side. Called a buddy he came over got me turned over real easy, not so much as a scratch on the tractor or me. THANK GOD.
I checked all fluids except the battery acid, everything checked right on. So I tried to start it. It turned over just fine for a couple of revolutions then battery clicked and wouldnt turn over any more. I took the battery out and took it home and filled it back up with acid and put a charge on it for a couple of hours. I went back out and got the battery in it and tried to start it. It turned over maybe a half a revolution and knocked and wouldnt turn over any more.
Then I got on here and figured out I did wrong trying to start it. Now Im letting it set over night and plan on trying again in the morning, Should I or should I just plan on getting it to the shop for a rebuild?
Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Pull the injectors or glow plugs and then turn it over. You may have a fluid filled cylinder.

The post above me sounds about right. You got to make sure there is no oil that can bend the rods when you start it up. I don't know the specific mechanics, but--I think--the worse thing you can do is restart the engine without clearing any oil.
Good luck.

To TBN Tom. Are you "leaving the light on?" I bet you have heard that one a million times. :D When I rolled mine over on it's left side. I had it righted in about 2 hours. I then let it set for about 8 hours before I even tried to start it and it started right up just like always. Guess I was lucky.

Never add acid to a battery after the initial fill. If it spilled acid of any significance, it toast. If it did not spill, add distilled water. About hydro-lock, you will probably be OK if you do as told above. You probably did not hurt the rods or wrist pins. Good luck! Glad you were not harmed!

Why is that? I have added acid to cell when the specific gravity was low after a charge. You just need to ensure that what you are adding is the same specific gravity as the other cells. Of course we had big cells on the submarine and 126 of them..

Thanks guys for all your input. I plan on going back out in the morning and loading it on a trailer with a winch and take it home, pull the injectors and try and roll the oil out. I will keep you all posted.

Yeah I should've got on here first but I was all worked up and apparently not thinking clearly. But you know what they say it's never good to should on yourself. O and I'll definitely leave the light on for ya.

A bit of an 'aside' (and welcome to 'tombodett' from Downunder), I was on Oberon Class diesel boats ['O' Boats] for awhile... heaps of fun <sarcasm> keeping the banks of batteries in top form.

As the USN boats were/are nukes, I take it that your banks were for back-up?

Update. I winched her up on a trailer, got it to the shop, pulled the fuel rails and the injectors. I put a half inch drive on the crank and hand cranked it a couple revolutions and it looked like an oil Geiser. Then I cranked it with the starter a few times and it spat even more. Put the injectors back on and the fuel rail bled the air out of the diesel lines tightened the injectors and she fired right up.
The summary of the story is if you roll your Kabota tractor the rings are to sealed to let the oil drain back down past the piston even if you wait overnight. So just plan on pulling the injectors and Emptying the Cylinders before you try and start it .

Just out of curiosity (and not wanting to start a debate), did you have your ROPS up and/or seat belt on? If so, did either make a difference?

LOL! Oh come on. It's another dog-day Saturday. Couldn't we use a good, BP rising, debate?

Yes they were nukes and the batteries were a backup.

No the rops weren't up. I was in some pretty hairy timber so they would have been in the way a lot. And no seat belt either. I am so glad I didn't have it on. As I am 6'5" and would have had my little guts smashed out because I would not have been able to jump. And just for the record I leave my rops folded 98% of the time. Unless I'm in a situation where I know there is a chance of a roll over.

The problem with most lead/acid batteries is that replacing lost acid with fresh electrolyte the plates or the build-up on the plates will begin "gassing-off" hydrogen excessively. Perhaps it was explained to me incorrectly or things have changed in the 40 years since explained to me, but I was told that lead/acid batteries were intended to take the shock of new acid only once. Maybe those batteries you were tending were of different spec than consumer types. I dunno. prs

I ride motorcycles and participate in a cycle forum catering to Honda GoldWing touring bike. ATGATT is a favored acronym for those that insist upon wearing all the garb (gear) all the time. I tell them that I did not plan on crashing this time out. ;-)

You say you jumped. Which way did you jump? Down hill and then scramble out of the path or did you manage to get over the high side? Glad you were unscathed either way. prs

The tractor rolled to the left I fell/jumped down hill. The right rop bar smashed my right shoulder and I banged the outside of my left leg on the ground. I was off the ground in less then 5 seconds and had the tractor shut down in less then 10. I was shaking for about 30 min.

Very good news on everything being okay and no engine damage. Now a question on the sort of private side, what did your wife have to say about your putting the trousers and under garments you were wearing at the time of the incident in her washing machine.

The safety switch didn't shutdown the tractor?
