I'm wondering when trucks will lose the "big front end thing" that Dodge started in 1994. I'm not saying it wasn't a clever sales tactic to make them look like a "big rig" but that is a lot of wind swept area to over come. To make an aerodynamic truck, a design would lose the big rig look. Ford tackled the fuel mileage thing by making their trucks lighter and still keeping the front end. As long as they all don't start looking like the Jeep Cherokee, I wouldn't mind a more aero looking truck.

HEY, watch it with the Jeep comments..... Oh,,,, you are talking about the new Jeep Cherokee??? I'm with ya. :D

I wish they didn't make trucks so tall. Not only are they getting taller but it seems they are losing ground clearance the taller they get.

I think the big front ends will stay for one reason, cooling. With the HP and capacities these trucks have now days they need to rid themselves of heat. Coolant, tranny, power steering, ect all build heat and until they figure out a new way to cool them it's here to stay for the radiators.

I drove chevy's from 1992-2012. In '07 they changed the body style and I did not like the new one at all. In '12 I sold my '03 and fell in love with the F-150. I like my F-150 and it's a great truck.

They all break, they all have good points and bad points. I will say this: All of my GM's were easy to change the oil in. Not the Eco-Boost. PITA and then some. The "crew cab" of the 07+ Chevy's was terrible. Whoever came up with that design should be shot. Not to mention Ford was the only automaker that made a true "crew cab" with a full size bed in a half-ton.

I've been driving GM's since I was 16 (my dad said he'd pay my car insurance as long as it was a bow-tie)...They've never failed me in 30 years, so that's why I stick with GM...My dad got me started I guess..Have four of them at the moment and no regrets.

To each his own..None are really all that much better than the other. They all have their good and bad.

I own trucks from all 3 right now and will probably keep them around as long as possible...

Just drove my 1985 G20 Van fully loaded with tools and supplies up to the mountains for a week to work on a project... so 30 years of dependability right here.

Always being asked to sell my 91 Styleside Silverado with the 5.7 V8... and almost 25 years on this one.

My 96 F150 is 4wd and a long bed with seating for 6... at least it has 6 seatbelts and then there is the old Dodge...

Maybe it is age... just nothing new that gets me interested enough to pay the price and high license fees...

Its Chevy, Ford, RAM, GMC, then the Asian brands with terrible sales numbers.

"By most estimates, it looks like we're headed to a record year in auto sales, and pickup trucks look to be heading toward record levels as well. During the last few months we've seen Ford struggling a bit to keep up with 2014 monthly and year-to-date sales, while GM the Chevrolet and GMC brands are doing well with their full-size pickup sales, in some cases experiencing double-digit sales increases over last year."

Chevy Beats Ford Through Midyear Sales - PickupTrucks.com News

Saw on the TV last night Ford is now offering up to $10,000 in incentives on their new F150, the higher the content the more in incentives. Their high content trims are not selling, they may have found their price points.

$10,000 off incentives are nothing new. My college roommate bought a 2015 2500 4x4 6.0L GMC crew cab Nicest GM truck I have ever seen by the way. It's cloth with all the options like nav, backup camera, brake controller, ect.

He ordered it and paid $10,000 off sticker when it was all said and done. Took it home for $33,000.

I've owned both Fords & Chevys and liked all my pickups. I believe that except for the carburetor engine I liked my 1985 3/4T Scottsdale the most. My current 2006 F150 is a fabulous pickup. Its a supercab but I've determined that a 4-door is more useful for an interior and a regular cab 8 ft bed a better work platform. Never owned a 4WD pickup but sure could use one these days. I believe accepting the bailout hurt GM sales the most.

That to me means the truck was over priced by $10,000 to start off with. It's put out there to see who'll bite for the initial pricing and when truck inventories start building up, all of a sudden they come out with an "incentive".
I remember $6000-$8000 incentives back in 98 when I was selling Dodges. I also remember when in 1985, you could buy a 4wd Ford step side p.u. with the 300 c.i.d. motor and 4 spd stick for $8800.

Admittedly I have trouble with a $33,000 p.u. as I did not pay that much for my house.

The pick up truck has turned into a phallic symbol. Even a big guy has trouble reaching over and into the bed of today's monsters. To me, they've taken the "pick up" right out of the pick up. Most of them now are just "big truck wanna be's". As in "I just bought a 2015 Chevy, Ford ,Dodge w.b."

Back in 2007, my local dealer was selling new F150 RCSB F150s with stick shift for $12,900 ($19K MSRP). Now you would be lucky to find one for under $21K ($26K MSRP) and you still won't have cruise control.

My local Missouri farmer friends would take offense at your comments. Throw a 1500lb big bale on the flatbed, then hang another one off the bale stabber and haul them across ditches, thru snow drifts and/or mud holes and your phallic symbol will wilt if the truck is a "low rider" that is easy to reach into. In my country most new trucks are HD, 4x4 and Diesels. They pull trailers, haul hay, carry fuel and a full tool box. Maybe in Rhode Island trucks are wanna be's. Here they work to earn their keep. :)

I agree with Clay45. And I didn't hear any indication of politics in his statement. He voiced an opinion about sales volumes. The bailout certainly hurt GM. But they are bouncing back. They now claim to have the fastest growing truck sales. When you are down there's only one way to go. :)

Yup, we counted on the wanna be's to sell the 1/2 tons and I'm talking majority of sales as opposed to specialized need. Take a look at the F 150 that hauls nothing but a few sticks of lumber and a couple bushes from Home Depot now and again. Owners want their truck to ride like a car. For certain they do not need to be this big at all.
Don't tell me there's a politically correct "truck speak" in Missouri:) .

Here, if your truck ain't 4x4, HD, Diesel you don't enter into a "truck" conversation. :)

It's real easy to find a used F150 with not so much as a gravel ding on it. But you gotta go to the city to find it (Des Moines, Kansas City).

A used HD truck that hasn't been worked is harder to find. Winter Texans contribute the most.

I bought my truck from an Elderly Farmer that bought it new. Had 100K miles on it. He kept meticulous service records in a Seed Corn book. It had the typical "old man" dents but was a very sound truck. I've put an additional 96K miles on it with no more than brakes, tires, etc. I figure it's good for another 50K before I get worried. :)

Before moving rural, I lived in the big city - and, along with my "go fast cars" always kept a truck. My main reasons were because of the lousy road maintenance and coming out on top in a wreck with smaller vehicles.

With the "texting" I see on the roads nowadays, this is a very valid reason. It seems 3 out of ten people I pass on the hwy, have their heads down looking at what they're writing. Last year I swerved to avoid a little gal who drifted into my lane going the opposite direction. This was on a 4 lane, 50 mph road. I'm wondering if she is still around.

My wife's previous car was a pre gangster Chrysler 300. Great riding car, but way too low to the ground for me to feel safe in. She now drives an '11 Grand Cherokee. I feel pretty safe in it and am bigger than most cars on the road. But if given a choice, I'll take my truck.
