72 this morning high of 89 later small chance of showers later but not much. 99 yesterday big job whipped me yesterday too hot dehydrated on job. Feeling very tired this morning

As Roy said I'm getting too old for this

   / Good morning!!!! #35,282
Coffee is done brewing. 48° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 79° with sun and a few clouds. Need to take wife to get new hearing aids. What a racket. But she needs them. Lawn needs to be cut again. Hope to get that in today.
Had a few motor cycles when I was younger. Mostly off road. But a couple of Japanese road bike. My back never liked the long rides.
Drew, enjoy that last cruise.
Roy, a day off during the week always make rest of the week go faster. :D Especially after some long days.
Good Morning All.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,283
71 going to 93 with 60% chance. Drove through 3 separate rain storms on my way home last night and not a drop here. I was only working 35 miles from home.

Drew have fun while going for your last spin in the little one

Roy I think we are all getting to old for this.... I moved to the country to retire  3 years later and I have never been so busy

   / Good morning!!!! #35,284
59F now upper 70"s for high.
Off to work soon and an hour or so trimming this evening plans so far...subject to chance w/out notice.

Enjoy the day all.

I think that's the definition of Fate.

Clear this morning. 60F headed to 78F with a strong breeze. I will get the cutting edge flipped today while the field dries out.

I suspect there is a 'hearing aid on a chip' that costs about 99 Cents to make.

14 hour days are killers and no bouncing back like a youngster either.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,285
69 going to only 87 today after 1.54 inches of rain. Glad I got the 3 hours mowing done since the grass will probably grow an inch today.

Thinking about trying to start roasting coffee at home. My recent time in Seattle motivated me.

Roy, I used to have those 14 hour days...no fun.

61 right now...looks like a high of 78 and clear today...good day to take off after a very tough last week and a half.
It was 14 hours from the time I left for work until the time I got home yesterday...about 12 hours on the job.
Gettin' too old for this crap.[/QUOT

BTDT. We say that the factory puts age on you. I sure found it to be true. Good luck.

63 out this AM. Had a big storm front move through the entire NVA last night. Was racing it home from a road trip. Still looking for another job. Sigh.

Of course as I got to my driveway, the sky opened up. As soon as I got out of my car. I was soaked to the bones. Did not help that my phone charger was still connected to the phone, and the door was locked. I was yelling at the SO to open the door, since it is not her car, she fumbled that order. It did not matter anyway. The damage was done the minute I got out. I walked to the house to drain my phone and find an umbrella. The SO stayed in the car and under the garage, stating it was just wet, windy and crazy lightening to be walking back to the house. Me, being soaked and not a happy camper, just said OK and walked back to the house after checking the outbuildings and barn for the animals.

About a half hour later when the sun came out, (most beautiful BTW) I retrieved the SO and emptied the car from the trip.

These super soakers are really bad so far this year. This one will again require the pool to be drained. This will be the third time this year, no kidding, that is a lot of water in the last few weeks.

Everyone have a safe and pleasant day today.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,288
75F now w/refreshing breeze,high of low 80's.
Later afternoon early evening sat in my chair enjoying smooth cigar and waited..waited and waited, finally momma brought her new born for visit :)
Fawn was puzzle for smell of cigar but the little bugger put on show trying out new set of legs  momma didn't think to kindly having pics taken and let be known. :irked:

So far Doe w/1 fawn & Doe w/twins this year. :cool2:

Got some much needed trimming done early this morning :) trimming of lower branches, now off to store for grass seed.

Enjoy the day all.

Thomas, it was nice to see your patience paid off, those deer must have been very close. Although we have deer in the general area, we don't see any here. They say deer tend to stay away from sheep as it makes it more difficult for them to scent danger -possibly cigars too ;)

Good morning, 59F here heading to 79F, another beautiful day, too bad I am back to the grind. Did take my wife to see the movie Spy yesterday afternoon, pretty funny movie.

Good Morning. 0705, partly cloudy, 75F with 90% humidity. Forecast high of 91F with 60% chance of rain today, and a low of 76F tonight. We had another thunderstorm yesterday. Lots of sharp lightning, but less rain than the day before. Although I'm sure it was enough to wake the grass up.

Heading out to the garden to transplant Jalapeno plants to replace the ones that cashed last week. Then maybe some mowing. Margie's cousin is coming today to tow her semi trailer to South Florida. She came last night for a visit, and we decided the trailer had been parked down by the woods for almost 11 years. All she owes us for rent is 10 1/2 years at $25 per month. I'm sure we will never see any money, but it will be nice not to see red reflectors down that way when I park my car at night.

You guys having to work outside be sure to drink, drink, drink.

Not as pleasant a morning as usual, I have just had a bust up with some tarmac contractors. A guy called Monday evening looking for somewhere to run out their asphalt laying machine at the end of the day and could I use what they had left. I have done this before with road contractors who have previously left their machinery on the farm track overnight without any problems and I get a bit of black stuff in return. He said they also had 150 tons of road planning's coming off. I keep buying road planning's when available to make up the various tracks. Works out about 7.5$ to 10$ a ton delivered and makes a good running surface when laid over a geotextile fabric.

Tuesday I was working away for the day. Had a call from my wife to say the contractors had left no road planning's, but they had surfaced dressed two pieces of track up by the roadside and wanted 4500$ for their efforts ! Met them this morning and told them they wouldn't be getting paid for work I hadn't asked for. They are just trying it on. They must find enough people who won't stand up to them to make it worth their while.

75 this morning and headed to 91 today. Coolest day before the rain so it will be a mowing day. Mow and have a guy coming to weedeat. It'll take most of the day.

It was a job of work, but we got the semi trailer hooked up and gone. There were no boards under the jack stands, so they had sunk a couple feet in my sandy soil. Jacked all the way up, we were still a few inches short. But with some 2X12's and a strong lack of regard for safety, we were able to back under the trailer. After 10 1/2 years sitting, the driver was worried about brakes and bearings, but after adding oil to the hubs, they took off for Punta Gorda. They are stopping to buy one used tire.

88F with 97F heat index. But with a nice breeze blowing, it hasn't been too bad out. Cooler than the last few days for sure.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,296
68F when I got up this morning, 83F now, headed for a high of 99F, the coolest it'll be for the next week or so. It'll peak at 106F tomorrow, then "cool off" into the low hundreds until it shoots up again, this time to 107F, the following Thursday. Oh, but it's a dry heat. Or at least it's supposed to be. Apparently a high pressure ridge to the east and north of us will combine with a cut-off low to the southwest to bring hot air and moisture in from the Baja area, causing dry lightning as we get into the weekend. We're already seeing small acre fires almost daily, and there are several over a thousand acres burning elsewhere in the state. Just ran into a big crew of firefighters at breakfast, all from the San Diego area, on loan temporarily to be stand by personnel for the anticipated increase in activity. Hope it's enough.

Lots of tools are indispensable for certain jobs, Dave, like welders and presses. But after a time or two of needing and not having, then dealing with the pressures of rentals, I start keeping an eye on Craig's List. Almost all of my bigger tools are CL orphans, being rescued in dilapidated shape and returned to a useful life with a little TLC and a few dollars. The biggest issue is finding room for all of them, as the three car garage is nearly full at this point.

Drew, my first bike was a Suzuki triple two-stroke, fast for a beginner bike but with evil handling. Couldn't get out of its own way in the corners. The Commandos couldn't keep up with the H1 on the straights, but you didn't have to slow down into the turns. But now adays even a 600 makes more than 100Hp, so it's hard to find anything from 35 years ago that would keep up. In those days BMW had a very good reputation for reliability, but they've sacrificed it in the name of performance and mass appeal. Last year's version of the big touring bike, the R1200RT, was issued a "park it" recall for most of the year for a problem with the rear drive. BMW's response? A coupon for a few dollars off in their clothing boutique. One of the local builders has a K100RT in his shop just like the one here; he's doing a sidecar conversion on it. He's willing to do two, but there are better bikes to start with than the K. And at least for now, I've already more projects than I can keep up with. Maybe when I get a little too wobbly for two wheelers...

Dunno about the price on that spreader, Dave, but with poly body and stainless blades it would probably last forever. All the ones I've seen and borrowed around here are rusty inside, and need broken free each spring before they'll work again.

You guys and your long days need to slow down so the rest of us can catch up. You're making us all look bad!

Eric, that "free left over asphalt" is a long standing scam in the US. They typically get half way through a job, making a big mess in the process, then try to extort money from the victim. Usually it's an elderly couple, and they pay up to avoid trouble. Then the stuff crumbles in a year or so. Best way to deal with one of these fly by night outfits is to get some ID and call the authorities. But you still may get stuck cleaning up the mess.

I think I've discovered how evaporative cooling was invented. The Ford truck needed new antifreeze, and with all the parts in hand, I decided yesterday was the day. A five gallon bucket fit nicely under the drains, so I was able to keep most of the old stuff out of the watershed, but one engine block drain plug was located above the starter in a very awkward position. Had to be directly below it, looking up through a narrow slot, to even see it. And it was very tight, and took three times crawling out from under than back to find a wrench combination that would let me get it out. Then I realized that once the coolant came pouring out, it would be streaming right into my face if I wasn't very careful. Even then, I couldn't get out of the way fast enough to avoid being splashed. I'd read the tutorial, now knew I'd get to do it three more times, as the system is so delicate it requires flushing not only with tap water, but three more times with distilled water. By the second flush I was wet from head to toe, but by then the temps were into the mid 90s and it actually felt good. Couldn't have picked a better day, especially after the breeze off the lake picked up a bit. It felt even better to put those drain plugs in for the last time and fill the radiator with 8 gallons of 50/50 mix. But best of all was a cool shower to get the oil and grease off my arms and hands, and the antifreeze stink out of my hair.

This morning I was up at dawn to throw a leg over a motorcycle and take myself to breakfast up the canyon. Figured it would stay cool until at least noon, and I could enjoy a leisurely ride and still make it back before it got too hot. I'd noticed a little missing when the machine first started, and wrote it off to old fuel, maybe eight or nine months since the last fill up. After a few miles the stumbling hadn't cleared, so I found a shady pull off and looked into it. The control cable to one enrichener circuit was tight, the other very loose. Then I noticed that the return spring on the loose one was missing. Running around on too much fuel would certainly make an engine miss. I turned the enrichener off with my fingers, then wired the lever shut with a piece from my spares bag. Back in the saddle the bike was back to its old sweet self, with another mechanical misadventure behind us. With the exception of a little sun in the eyes, the ride up the canyon was beautiful, and my little delay was enough to let most of the commute traffic clear. The unblinking eye did get a little dry, but forcing them both closed worked well enough to keep going, and staying centered in the lane with both eyes shut didn't seem to be much of a challenge. The food was good at breakfast, but getting a cup of coffee was a bit of a challenge. So much so that when it finally did arrive, after the dishes were cleared, it was free, and worth every penny. Nice ride back as well, and had my favorite stretch all to myself. Don't think I'd want to ride for a week on vacation like this, or even for a lengthy day, but an hour or so at a stretch seems quite manageable. Signs of progress, at last! :dance1:

Have a happy Hump Day, everyone!

washed, scrubbed, washed some more, but two hours of it got the boat clean, with the help of a lot of Clorox Cleaner.
Occasionally hosed myself off, I was sweating so much I was messing up my just cleaned chrome!...
Scout really does/did some top class fiberglass work. The gunnels (tops of the sides) are just satiny smooth, like they had sanded them for days with 2000 grit. Even 12 years later, they wax up like new. Plus the stainless does not have one stain on it. Which is really abnormal in my experience. Though I rarely left salt on the boat.

After three weeks of sitting, the efi Yamaha started up in a split second and just purred. Oh that all our machinery
did that....particularly the gas stuff. Had one bit of fun today. I had put the truck and trailer down the ramp myself, no help, no training wheels, and got the trailer pretty well down into the water. Usually one doesn't go down far enough. Well...plenty far enough as this time I did a good job of nailing the entry up onto the trailer, out of gear a few seconds before with the engine coming up a bit.
Slid right up so easily, hmmm, not stopping, whoa reverse, reverse, ahhh, ok. Maybe we are floating on the bunks and not sitting on them. This is where having a helper sure would have, well, helped.

So I climb out the front of the boat, on to the trailer (those of you with small boats know the acrobatics here) wobbling back and worth like a tight wire act, and stagger on to dry land. Well a wet ramp but dry enough for me. Of course I had secured the front winch so the boat wasn't going backwards at all. Up to the truck, slowly pull the whole thing forward about six feet, boat slithers nicely into the middle of the trailer bunks as it should and all was well. For sure, not doing that again... though my "new" boat drives the same as this little runabout, one engine but with a bow thruster. Sure would be nice to have a stern thruster. Let's see, three guys who all take a leak at the same time on one side...:D That approach might not fly in a nice marina...

truck pulled the boat up just fine in 2wd. The Ram has whatever the modern version of positraction is so perhaps that helped. I had forgotten to turn the knob. Thank you Michelins.

Been drinking water, iced tea and cran-cherry juice all day. Those sports drinks aren't the most natural tasting things to drink, sometimes wonder what I'm drinking. electrolytes. ok, like a battery. Hmmm, battery acid without the acid?

Larro, great to get that rig out of there. If I were a betting man I'd put big money on that trailer blowing a tire between your place and Punta Gorda. Dry rot and high heat. Kaboom.

weather forecast has gone bad, now 2 to 3 inches of rain tomorrow. Probably in three hours like last time. Whatever happened to nice gentle soaking rains?

Drew, your kin will probably never have the boat in near the shape you are giving it to them. You are a kind man, wish I had an uncle like you. I'm glad that outboard started. It amazes me what those things cost nowadays. Mostly glad you didn't do a 1 1/2 gainer off the bow. Whew.
