RNG, If you ride the wide open spaces with your eyes closed, how will you see those Jackalopes in the road?

Made it to 73F today. I can't believe Sunday's forecast; High of 56F and rain all day.

We actually issued a permit for a new house build at tonight's Planning Board meeting. Those have been few and far between.

Good evening all. 73F this morning, 93F this afternoon HI of 98F, partly cloudy skies w/light wind from south. Finished computer network, tech support gave me correct password, now printer has its own IP add. and a few to play with. SWMBO made the parts run and first set of shelves finished. Got the shelves filled up and a bunch of boxes emptied, recycle run in the morning. More painting and shelve building tomorrow.

Dave, we like the house, but are not living in it yet. Stepdaughter had some personal issues so we hang here to give her support.

Drew you are a nice uncle :)

David(sodamo) you have not melted yet?

107 would kill a lot of folks here. I suspect that without A/C, Arizona would be depopulated pretty darn quick!

96 for a high today. 111 for a heat index. Spent the hottest part of the day inside with the a/c. Did manage to finish mowing and start back bushhoging. Have lightning on the horizon now. Forecast is for 1-2" over night.

58 right now with light rain. It'll clear up later with a high of 77.

it's DARK out. can anyone remind me how to begin a new thread - I can't see the directions (like I said, dark out) thanks :) bracing for a heat wave --- 40 C over the next few days (yikes),

considering a property where we can build a house in next few years - 20 acres, secluded, flat, creek and river with water rights, close to town, we already know and like the neighbours. not sure how / if we can manage it ($), but looking into it. might be a few subject clauses (like selling / renting our current house with small acreage). perfect property, but timing might be the issue... I won't be into a regular income for about 6 months - also thinking that we could live on 5 acres and lease 15 of the acres out ... praying for wisdom (thanks everyone).:tractor: :scratchchin: :cowboy:

I would always say be very careful before taking on too much debt or too soon - it would really hurt to find the perfect place and then later loose it to the bank. Hey, what do I know though, we are supposed to get older and wiser, the older bit has come, just waiting now for the wiser to kick in. :) Good luck whatever you decide to do.

The sun is hiding today. We are set for clouds all day so should be very comfortable to work outside.

For a few weeks a wooden gate has dropped, making it harder to close. When I finally remembered to take my 30mm spanner with me I found the gate hadn't sagged, it was the hinge nut and washer that had pulled into the gate post. For a quick fix I tapped it back and made a wooden washer, not sure how long it will last.

We call that a "dirty fix" (not a quality fix to be proud of, although may be good enough, at least for a while).
Slightly higher up the scale than a "bodge" (rough work, probably with materials that are not quite up to the job and likely to fail almost immediatly).
Maybe they are terms you don't use because you only do high quality repair work ? :)

Had a peek at the blackbirds nest and found it had been cleaned out. Could be that a family of stoats are having a good breakfast this morning.

wise words Eric Salop - we are basically debt free at present due to a reasonable limited settlement, can sell our house and come out about the same. we NEED to move in the next year or so (mobility issues make current house no longer practical), as renovations are not practical either. it's a lot to think about, but I think that a raw land parcel is better than a small acreage with older home requiring renos. I'm not landing on a city lot - need some space, and some yard work. I would prefer to stay where we are, but that simply won't work in the long term.

Coffee has started brewing. 58° with mostly clear skies this morning. Heading to 77° with sun then clouds in afternoon. Getting the list completed. Trailer hitch and wiring lights on wife's car are at top of list.
Eric, fix will work until wood splits.
Good Morning All.

71 Here, Good Morning Everyone. Going to hit 91 with HI 101 and a 50% chance of rain. That last part has me laughing till I cry. I am beginning to think I live in some sort of arid vortex, 1/2 mile any direction from me gets rain almost every day, but not at "Happy Hooves Farm". Well I am off to work, hope everyone stays safe and has a good weekend.

70 this morning high of 90 later, no rain yesterday but chances for storms later today with best coverage tomorrow

67 heading to 85. Got 1.57 inches again...3rd 1.5" plus rain in the last week. I guess someone from Texas stopped by this part of the country to do a rain dance. Finished changing the oil in my 4Runner just as the rain hit.

Eric - I think your dirty fix was quite clever. What would be your permanent fix...a bigger washer?

Scaredychicken - I hope the land purchase works for you. If you're just not sure - maybe you can offer them an option contract.

RS, if you're gonna weld on those shafts, why not just weld up the keyways and have a machine shop recut them for you? Might cost a few bucks, but you'll be forever with a Dremmel trying to get something that in the end won't fit tightly anyway. Any slop in that key will quickly batter itself bigger, and you'll end up remaking those keyways a lot sooner than 15 years.
My idea is to weld the woodruff keys in place on the shafts - the Dremel (or a file) would only be used to clean up any excess weld along the keys/shaft ... to allow the drums/sprockets to fit back over the keys/shafts.

Having the keyways recut would involve removing the pump/motors from the mower and likely disassembling them as well. Not to mention the additional expense.

Based on how long the chains/sprockets/keys are lasting (15 years), this current fix will likely take it to a point in the future where I won't be around to have to worry about it.

Nice Commando ... used to know a couple of guys in Sac back when I lived there that ran Nortons ... nice machines.

65F and mostly cloudy ... but I can see the sun trying to peek through occasionally. Rain and thunderstorms are scheduled to continue for at least the next 10 days ...

Grass continues to grow unabated ... will probably turn into a huge task to get it back under control.

Been cooped up in the house for a few days trying to organize paperwork and records. Not fun.

70 out this AM. Had another gully washer early this AM. OK, my rain gauge (pool) picked up another inch. Hello? It is late June, we are suppose to be dryer. I cannot even keep up with the grass at this point. I cut in sections around the property. By the time I am done with the last section, the first needs it again. Wah!

Highs today, low 80's. More wet weather on tap for the weekend. Sigh.

Have a great day all! And a better w/e.

Morning all, 61F heading to 77F. Nice day today but we are suppose to get heavy rains tomorrow.

57F going to mid-70's today.

More rock picking today. I'm down to the last little ugly section. Next step will be to mount the backhoe and pop out a couple dozen larger rocks that are sticking up too high.

Sharon has started training Sira to do scent tracking so I am the designated track maker--I've been demoted to human rabbit . Two dirty socks, leave one on the ground at the start of the track, one at the end. Food treat and lots of praise when the second sock is found. There is a harness designed for tracking dogs that is put on at the first sock and immediately removed when the end sock is found. The dog associates that harness with "we are tracking", and "I'm going to earn a treat" by following the track helps too no doubt. That way the 'game' isn't about coming to me, it is to get the treat. Dogs' scenting abilities are amazing and Sira has the energy level to enjoy the game.

Good luck with the lawn mower Thomas. Hope they fixed it well.

Have a good one.
