Dave, I'm impressed you have both a welder and an oxy cutter and know how to use them.
My two year old inverter welder has never been plugged in (very soon actually) and I'd land in the next county if I tried to use a big tank setup. So much to learn.

Lots of you, including our well know fabricators, have such amazing fix it talent. Guys like Farmer who can't wait for the service truck to show up when 50,000 chickens are at stake. Sometimes the operation has just got to go on and if you don't know how to do it, you are paddling without an oar...in front of the falls.
Always wise to keep a spare oar. Or a blower motor. Or harvester parts. Or a solar panel part when you are far up a mountain, even in Paradise. Spare parts desire...likely a common pull around here.

I used to be able to make simple welds pretty well, then I didn't touch a welder for about 20 years and got rusty. The OA torch is one of those things that is very handy to have around too. When you need a welder or torch, you need 'em, period. :D RNG's hydraulic press is another tool that may not get used often but ... they are the cat's meow when you do need one.

Good morning. Having some coffee then will be getting outside to do some things before the heat really sets in.

It's currently 78F and the high is expected to be 100F again.

Well it says 97F but with the index it's gonna be around 104F like yesterday.

Turned the old Frigidaire window shaker a/c on so it'd start cooling off the room before it got to hot.

Turned it off last night as it finally cooled down out.

Lost power for about 4 hours last night. Having the Generac has helped out a lot over the years. It was very humid, so I ran the air for a bit. Fell asleep to the thunderstorm, but my boxer girl was scared and got in bed with us. Only time I've seen her scared of anything. Lucky we have a king size bed!

Close call. I had some flying boats experience years ago in Ohio. :D
[SNIP]
That lot was in some sort of wind alley. We would get hammered good every now and then.

Larro, Dave, thanks for sharing your experiences. I've been wanting a small aluminum boat for a while now, but have no good place to store it except outside. After reading what happened to your boats, now I'm glad I held off. Wind gusts get so high here I'm surprised I haven't lost the steel cover on the back porch. I can't imagine what would happen if the wind got hold of a 14' fishing boat

Strong winds are rare here. That is why I didn't have the canoe tied. I did have a 12' 4X4 post laid on each side of it. The eastern most post was laying across my overturned generator, about 6' from the trailer. The canoe must have been moving when it came off there. I may look for a lower place to store it, but space under the pole barn is in limited supply. Once before it came halfway off the trailer. It was at the other end, laying across my B7500. On reflection, I think I will tie it from now on.

Storm sat night dropped a tree across a fence in my yard. tree was dead, on hwy right of way, and has large poison ivy vine.
Need to cut in lengths to carry with my forks.

Nice. Any chance that tree fell from the highway right of way onto your property, Farmer? If so, a phone call would make your problem properly theirs, and maybe net you reimbursement for the damaged fence as well.

Otherwise, I see healthy applications of Ivy Block and TechNu in your future. :(

when the British makers of my motorcycle went belly up.
BSA or Triumph? Or something really tweedy sounding like a Lancashire....;)
I remember when having a Spitfire was the cat's meow, and it wasn't that little Triumph, either. Or a Bonneville, and it wasn't anything from Pontiac.
I wonder how many untold races were held for pride and twenty bucks a run between Spitfires and Harleys.
BMW's were in another league. You didn't have to be fastest when you clearly were built better.

I agree, treat that tree as radioactive. Took me almost three months to get rid of poison oak scabs and was left scarred.
Even dead it's toxic.

My particular cross to bear bore the Norton mark, several over a number of years, all Commandos of one form or another. At the end of days Triumph bought BSA, or the other way 'round, just before it all collapsed in on itself. The Norton name has been revived several times, all for naught. The one comfortably resting in the great room has been the epitome of reliability, and having never even started it from a frame up restoration many years ago, can be counted on to still drip the occasional drop of oil, even though none was put back into it when the work finished.

NortonPR.jpg

These days the ones in the garage are all BMWs, with the exception of a Yamaha dirt bike, and they'll go as fast and as far as this old fart needs, and without the two to one riding/wrenching ratio on the British bikes. So much so that I felt the need to pick up a couple of basket cases, just so I'd have something to work on in my spare time (whatever that is) :confused2:

oh my is that nice. Two things could always be counted on to drip oil.
A British motorcycle and a Detroit Diesel. Driptroits. I owned a pair once. Bought diapers by the case.
Well worth it. I should have included Nortons too, they were hard core also. Compared to today, they are fairly slow
in performance too. Commuter bikes could probably out haul them. But they sure won't sound the same.

And it all changed when the Kawasaki triples came to town and the sucking noises of old fashioned iron getting
their pegs blown off... I drove one of those just once and it was hard to keep the front end down, probably like driving a first gen Porsche Turbo, not too well controlled in the wrong hands. Plus that triple made this totally different nasty angry sound. Bit of a honk to it if I remember. But boy did that tach needle spin up fast, as you tried to not slide back on the seat.
Those days are sure over for me, but what fun memories.

And RNG, please tell us you have a sidecar in the works. One of those sleek black Autobahn ready ones...

60F and foggy. It was mostly 61F all day, never got warmer than that. Upper 70's tomorrow and sunny. That's going to be steamy until the air dries out a bit. I know you folks in the South are laughing.

A college buddy had a BSA 650 Lightning IIRC. Always a challenge to keep it running. He topped off the oil tank religiously--even if it only needed a tablespoon. It was a nice looking bike with lots of chrome. A 1968 350 Honda was the only bike I ever owned. It was fun to buzz around on. Probably lucky I'm alive. Something about teenagers and thrill seeking; "running redlights and pulling tight squeezes" and I didn't have my plastic Jesus.

I found the plow bolts at the area Kubota dealer. It was a good rainy day to drive over there. I asked about a spreader, they sell Landpride equipment. $850 + tax for a FSP 1000 model (poly hopper, SS plate and vanes, 750 lb capacity). I think I'll call the Deere dealer and check their prices and what they sell.

Good evening all. Missed the actual temps today, forecast was for 72F in the morning and 93F this afternoon, mostly sunny. Mowed the lawn today, new mower worked well. Not much to weed-eat, maybe next time :). Garage shelves on hold, SWMBO wants one more bracket support up. Started sorting computer components in the office, and did 1 hour consulting over the phone for my lone client.

Well, it has been one of those days! I see it is 75°F back home, a bit warmer here in Williams, AZ, but it is early evening here.

Our son and family flew into Phoenix last night, arriving 2250, but unfortunately without luggage. Didn't get back home until 2am. Took the scenic route north and USAir was nice to forward the missing luggage to Flagstaff for an almost convenient pickup enroute - except the construction detours to the airport. Checkin to our motel was almost uneventful once the desk found our 3rd room LOL. Picked up our tickets for the Grand Canyon Railway for tomorrow.

Not much to report on the tractor front other than passing by a couple of dealerships. Don't see a whole lot of tea touring in the mountain desert.

Be safe
Have a great day

61 right now...looks like a high of 78 and clear today...good day to take off after a very tough last week and a half.
It was 14 hours from the time I left for work until the time I got home yesterday...about 12 hours on the job.
Gettin' too old for this crap.

   / Good morning!!!! #35,279
78 degrees already going to high 80's in incoming rain and showers. Wet weather forecast for next four or five days; we could use it.
Off early to take my small boat out for one last ride and then put it on the trailer and bring it home.
Probably will do some mowing today before the rains come in. I also have some weed and feed to spread.
Always something...
have a good day.
