Adjusting Cut Off Pressure Of Air compressor??

A quick note to this thread for any others that may have a problem with their pressure switch: I was just amazed to find that one can buy complete "universal" pressure switches including the unloader valve in several different port configurations and pre-set pressures for as little as $9 on-line. Surely Chinese made and may be of dubious quality, but how wrong can you go for $9 (with free shipping!)!

My Craftsman compressor started leaking air at the pressure switch. Sears wanted IIRC over $100 for the part. I was ready to buy a new compressor when I asked a sales associate at Atwoods if they had pressure switches. They had a USA made one and Chinese one for $12 and 9 respectively. The Chinese one even had a cutoff switch but I got the USA one for a bit more money since I really didn't need the on/off switch since the receptacle is right by the compressor. Well a year later and the USA one was leaking air at the diaphragm gasket also so this time I replaced it with a Chinese one. Will have to see how long it lasts.

The pump is more than likely the limiting factor on the pressure limit. If it's an oil-less compressor than that is probably the reason. The seals on the piston of an oil-less compressor are one of the limiting factors when it comes to pressure limit. So lowering the limit may buy you a little more life out of the compressor. Tank is more than likely adequate to handle 125psi.
