Hi. Can anyone tell me if the clutch and the hydrolics are linked in this tractor? Does it have a wet clutch? The tractor only has 550 hours and it feels like the clutch is slipping when I take a grade. Interestingly, it seemed to do better when I closed the hydraulics to the three point hitch. I'd appreciate any help explaining this.

What trans do you have? It's a dry clutch and not hooked to the hydraulics. Look and see if you are getting any oil out of the bell housing vent on the bottom of it. If so the rear main seal or trans input shaft seal is leaking and could get oil on the clutch.

Thanks LeeJohn. I don't know what transmission I have or how to tell. I bought it used so I don't have a manual. It has a f/n/r lever on the column. I don't see any leaking around the transmission. This happened really suddenly. One day it was fina and then... Probably need a new clutch, but I'm hoping it's something simpler.

I found a shop manual online and it looks like I might be able to adjust the clutch. I'll try that and let you know how it works out. btw, it's a manual transmission.

If it is GST or FST with the shuttle on the column it has a forward and a reverse WET clutches. Think the GST and clutch packs use the oil flow from the power steering section of the hydraulic pump. There is a regulating valve someplace also, have heard of that going bad but think clutch pack wearing out is rare.

Dave wouldn't the GST show a code if the regulating valve was bad. I also think now he has the GST now. I was thinking before it was HST.

Yes all 3 trans have the dry clutch drive. The GST has wet clutchs in the trans.

Went through error code section of service manual and no pressure related error codes, most all codes relate to electrical faults of the solenoids or sensors.

There is a flow chart for, make sure fluid levels are up and all hydraulics work and not a clogged or wrong hydraulic filter then start checking pressures.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty sure I have the manual transmission. It only has a forward and reverse on the column. If I want another gear I have to stop and shift the lever beside the seat. Anyway, I was lucky and found the shop manual on line. It showed me how to adjust the clutch. I did that and now it seems to be working better. Thanks again. It's nice to know that there are people that can and will help when it's needed. Jack.

If you have one shifter with 12 gears(or clicks on a potentiometer) inline with a jog it is GST if you have one shifter with an H pattern with 4 gears and a second shifter with 2 it is the FST(Fully Synchronized Transmission).

Either way on the GST/FST the main clutch should not be used very much and the shuttle wet clutches on the column should get most of the use.

I shift my GST all the time without coming to a complete stop as I think you could do with the 4 main gears on the FST, the ranges I think would need a stop.
