Just got in from tending my Pallets in my Fields... what is going on here?
Siphoning out ponds... Looking for aliens? what?

Im getting about 9kGal/inch. 14000 is a factor of ten so thats a typo. :confused2: ... anyway, around 6GPM for an inch a day. - - As mentioned earlier, replenishment will increase as it drops because hes draining saturated ground around. Evaporation loss will decrease as well."The yellow bucket"
The problem with air entering the discharge pipe has everything to do with water stream velocity and volume. So as long as the volume is high enough to keep the pipe full the velocity will be the same anywhere in the pipe. But when volume drops the water level in the pipe will drop to the bottom of the pipe diameter while it will speed up allowing air entering the pipe against the flow and stopping the siphon effect. The bucket or and elbow pointing up will prevent air entering the pipe regardless of water velocity.
My guess is that it will take for a while to drop the water level.
0.3 ac about 1400 sqft
to drop 1" of water in a day you need to drain about 6800 gal.
resulting in a rate about 4.7 gal/min assuming no inflow.
I'm in to see these aliens too! And to go find this pallet thread everyone is raving about!
Yeah, I am lost with the pallets too, before my time on here I guess. Tried searching for it but couldn't find it.

The pallet thread was a long standing TBN joke that stood in every time someone wanted to point to a total time wasting thread that took on a life of its own. I was as guilty as any, and more than some.
I'd have to see the video. What keeps the already dipped and lifted water in the pipe on the next dip?
Just out of curiosity, the water in a 2" pipe weighs 1.36 pounds per foot of pipe. 0.163 gallons per foot.
200' of pipe X 1.36 lbs/ft = 272 lbs -- not including the weight of the pipe itself. Eric, that's 19.43 stones.![]()
You bend a 5-6' U in the end of the pipe, dip the opening down into the water from one side and start tipping it up and out. That'll fill 3-4 feet of pipe. Stand up and walk it up the hill until its higher than the top of the hill and drop the lower end of the U. The water will run down the pipe and stop at the half way point because in our previous discussion, you brought both ends up to the top of the hill. Then repeat that process until you get enough water in the hose to overcome the rise. Since you're only lifting 5' of water each time, its about 7 pounds at the most each time. Then drop one end into the pond and drag the other end back down the hill to the drainage area. That water sitting in the half way point won't move until you straighten the half way point, so the hose is empty until then. You'll only be pulling half the hose down the hill. It will be light as a feather at first and only increase in weight to a max of 135 pounds towards the end Once you straighten the half way point, that slug of water in the hose will fall down the hill and pull water through the hose up and over the hill. Piece of cake.
Errrrriic, its been two days and some hours, where are you?
They do still count time in days, hours, minutes, seconds etc. in the metric arena, do they?
Eh, maybe. Not on Eric's long hill, you won't have the endurance.

Not sure of depth, but head will decrease as it empties.
Oh, I still function well. Can't think worth a hoot, but still strong physically. :cool2:
This is better than that pallet thread!
This is 1000% better than that pallet thread!
May it rest quietly in peace!
I'm going to go ahead and surmise that this 10 year odyssey has ended with or will end in an afternoon with one of theseView attachment 426366
The pallet thread was devoted to discussing the purpose and merits of pallets stacked in an otherwise empty field, and served as nothing more than a HUGE waste of time. It's sole claim to fame is that once in a while someone will revive it, setting in motion a whole new set of "they were put there by aliens", "they only breed when nobody's looking" and "we already covered that" responses. Be thankful it didn't turn up in the search!:laughing:
