I'm looking to purchase my first small tractor/loader with belly mower for my 4-1/2 acre property.

I looked at (and played with) a Yanmar 324 today, and was pretty impressed. I was given a price of approximately $16900 plus tax, etc. for tractor, loader, mower and quick attach pallet forks. Sound about right? I had actually contacted the dealer looking for an LS J or XJ, but he didn't have either in inventory, and directed me to the Yanmars (he had one of each of the new red models).

What other comparable units should I be looking at? I also looked at the Massey GC1705/15, but it felt small; subcompact versus compact.

You may want to take a look at the bigger yanmars. There are some stellar deals on slightly used 2011-2013 etc. also, getting the biggest u can afford is often a good thing down the road.

Skysensor -

Not taking anything away from the 324, I haven't seen one up close and have heard good things about them and the new lineup....
but just for your consideration, I am selling a new leftover Yanmar SC2400 with 6 hours, with loader and mower deck. I also have available a rear PTO bagger, a front hitch with a 60" blade and 45" blower. I can package up how you like. I THINK the 324 is a bit bigger frame/tires, but shares the same 24HP motor.
It's a few grand cheaper than the 324, with no tax, and with warranty. It does not have the quick attach for forks, you'd have to pin on forks or use bucket forks.
Sorry to hijack the thread, just wanted to give you options. If not interested, sorry to take your time. If interested, PM me.

thanks!

I was quoted in central WI, a new yanmar 424 with loader and woods box blade for $15,300
No mower

Don't give up on LS. Try the website to locate another dealer on your area. At least to get a comparison with the Yanny. I paid $12,200 last year for my new J2023. A mid mower option should be around $2500 more. Our your can always look at rear finish mowers because they are less expensive and more versatile than a MMM.

Did you end up with the 324? I think I want one. Looked at BX, seems a little small, Yanmar 221 looks a bit beefier. The 324 seems to strike some SCUT/CUT balance that is attractive. I have a little over 2 acres, lots of trees, grades, stone driveway. Would you save money with a rear mount finish mower? Maybe not worth the hassle.

I bought the 424 because I need the ground clearance, and mowing is not a priority. I'm very happy with the tractor. It seems well built and is easy to operate. I'm new to tractors so I don't have any experience with other brands, but Yanmar has been doing this for quite a while and I can see that this is a well thought out machine. It's hard to say whether that is a good price since I have a different machine with different options, but it seems fair. I think you'll be satisfied.

I too went with the 424. Should have it by next week. The $800 premium over the 324 is less than it would ever cost to move the wheel/tire size up in the future.

I was looking at the 424 also and it had everything I wanted except the rear diff lock. With our long steep driveway on a North slope I was afraid that just would work, so looking hard at an EX3200 right now.

That seems to be a common criticism of this tractor. It has not been an issue yet and it's never been an issue with any of my other four wheel drive vehicles. The only time it would be useful is when your two rear tires have unequal resistance and one has no traction. I'm sure that occurs for some but it was such a remote possibility that I couldn't pass up all the other good things Yanmar has to offer.

Not taking anything away from the new Yanmar series, but I am puzzled and a bit disappointed that Yanmar did not include the diff lock in the new series.

I have 3 Cub/Yanmar compacts, and have used the diff lock (in addition to the 4WD) on several occasions....it's just a nice feature to have in the back pocket.

I have never plowed with anything but my Polaris Sportsman 700 but have been in several situations where I needed every bit of it's capability. I wouldn't feel comfortable without at least a rear diff lock. I really am impressed by Yanmar and will be signing paperwork on a new EX3200 next week. Only reason I didn't buy a _24 series was lack of diff lock. John.

The lack of a diff lock does seem odd. I had read that they polled their customer's and many reported never engaging it. I don't think it will be the end of the world. Plus pulls a little out of the cost. The new Kubota B has diff lock and 3spd HST but it end's up being more money and it's a smaller machine. I think too many people are seeing orange all the time. Not sure I could put out the money for a BX and feel like I got a good value. Time will tell. Like many things I research, if you keep waiting and researching and waiting for the next best, biggest, most, you'll just go crazy spinning your wheels with nothing.

Will report back about the 424 when I get it.

I agree, Black. I dont think any machine is 100% exactly the way we would build it if we could do it ourselves. Everybody's situation is unique and gotta decide between what we like, what we can live with and what is a dealbreaker. I hope you love the new 424. Looks like a fantastic machine! will be anxious to hear.

Yes. Dealer will let me know when it is coming in.

I figured the ex3200 would be about $5,000 more than my sa424 similarly equipped. Considering I was already $5000 over budget; I think I came away pretty happy with MY decision.
