Oil & Fuel Stuck Hydraulic filter

That Kubota gorilla has a twin working at the Kioti factory. :laughing: The Kioti hydraulic and HST filters are notoriously hard to free up the first time. I use a Vise-grip style chain wrench and a lot of tugging, but a pipe-wrench style chain wrench would be even better as it would give more leverage. I don't recommend driving a screwdriver through the filters. It may or may not work, depending on how stuck the filter is and how strong and long the screwdriver, but either way you'll have to contend with the escaping oil. JMO.

If this is the filter I think you all are talking about, it has notches around its base for a spanner like this one: a long stout punch should be able to knock it loose.

Varmint - I think that's what they use at the factory to install them - with a cheater pipe.

I've had good results using these:



As long as any oil is removed from the rubber straps & the surface of the filter, they work very, very well.

I tried every specialty tool available with no joy, then found a thread where they recommended taking a razor knife (razor blade) and slicing between the edge of the gasket and the mounting bracket. Next I sprayed the cut edge with WD-40 and let it soak, then scored and sprayed again. Finally it let go ......

That method won't work on mine. Some filters are recessed in so you can't get to the gasket. On others like the engine filter you can't get in to the gasket due to other engine parts in the way.
I've used large channel lock pliers, vise grip chain wrench, strap wrench, large pipe wrench, end cap wrench, and a regular filter wrench. If none of them work the large screwdriver (which will make a mess) is my last resort.
