LS XR4040
Like the title says I'm looking for a price check on an LS XR4040 with a loader. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on one and was qouted $21,995 without any haggling. Does this seem to be a no haggle price or is there some wiggle room?

Welcome to TBN..............

Sounds like a fair price.
I found a couple XR4040's w/loader online for $21,800-23,995. Cab models are around $28,800.

Since you are in Texas give RCOtractor a call for a quote. He sells and delivers all over the country. Has good reviews on here from other members.

That is one of the dealerships I'm looking at.

You can't go wrong with RCO. They are a good dealer. When I was shopping, they gave me their best price from the start without any game playing. I appreciated that.

I would encourage you to consider the HST unless you're just using it for plowing or mowing pastures. If you do much loader work, the HST is infinitely better. And if you ever sell it, the HST model will have a higher resale and will be easier to sell.

They do seem to be a very reputable dealer. I'm just wondering how much negotiating I've got left at this price. I was hoping to get some more feedback from people that have recently bought an XR4040.

Maybe a couple hundred dollars, or maybe nothing at all. Keep in mind that prices vary a bit by region, so even if someone else bought for $500 more or less, that could simply be the regional difference (at least some of which is shipping).

When I bought my LS the dealer came down $300 from asking because it let him fill an entire truckload, which lowers their shipping costs.

You might be more likely to get them to throw in a shop manual (which may save you major troubles in the future), and/or the supplies for the first scheduled service.

When I dealt with RCO, the guy made it clear that they gave me their best price (and it was a good price) and that was the bottom line. I think Bart is right - you might be able to get a little bit more off, but we are talking a few hundred, not thousands.

You might have better luck getting them to throw in loading the rear tires with fluid, doing the first service free (or at least free labor), throwing in a service manual or some other something that you're gonna want anyway.

Thanks guys, I wasn't thinking thousands but was curious how much wiggle room there was. I've got a pretty good idea of how to approach Friday now.

I'm glad I found this. I have been shopping compacts for a few weeks now for our property in mid michigan. I have my eyes set in the XR4040 as well. I was quoted $21,950 for the SST. That price was at 3.49% for 84 months. That's out of the Whittmore lake dealer. One thing I have yet to figure out is, which trans to go with. I don't understand the pros/cons of the two.

Also, Bart, looks like you live close. How do you like your XR4040? Why did you opt to go with it? I'm trying to decide why I shouldn't buy the NH or Case. I'll take any info good or bad on LS and this model specifically. Recommendations?

Boomer, here's a simple explanation for which transmission to choose. If you are going to be plowing fields all day or perhaps mowing a big field all day or doing other tasks that don't require a lot of direction changes (i.e., tasks where you pick a gear, throttle up, release the clutch and go in that gear most of the time), then a shuttle shift transmission will serve you well. The shuttle shift transmission will probably put a little more power to the ground than the HST.

For all other work including loader work, an HST transmission is the way to go. It gives you instant direction changes without any clutching or changing of gears.

The only thing you'll have to adjust to with an HST transmission is to NOT think of it like a throttle pedal in an automobile. In a car or truck, if you want more power, you mash the throttle. On a HST transmission, mashing the pedal gives you more speed but less power. If you need more power, you let OFF the throttle. It will take you a few uses to get used to it, and then you'll never thing about it again.

I'd say price, quality (same caliber as those listed) and the extras that are standard on the LS.
Only negative I would say is the newish dealer network.

Yes, with the LS and some other machines with the traditional HST model. Some of the other brands actually offer a feature that ties pedal input to the throttle, so you can increase power and speed with the foot throttle.

This Massey is the first machine I've owned with that feature, but I love it and wouldn't want to go back now!

That was the one single feature that kept drawing me towards the Grand L series tractor when I was shopping. I eventually decided it wasn't worth the extra cost over the price of the Kioti, but I would absolutely LOVE to have that feature.
