Timing Belts: time limit spec

What year CR-V did you replace the timing belt? My friend has a 2005 model with a timing chain and it is still humming along at 280k+.
I think some of the newer direct injected vehicles wear out timing chains due to oil dilution/lack of lubrication.

Can't remember but I will find out. That was only the second belt replaced and it has just shy of 300k on it. CJ

Older Civics are spec'd by Honda as having a 7 year time limit on the Timing Belt.

Just curious what other interference-engine owners are seeing in their applications....

A few years ago had a customer come in with a Civic that according to the customer ( made a funny sound and wouldn't re start no matter how long they cranked it over)
I did a compression test - 0 psi on every cylinder.
Pulled the cam belt cover off and the belt was still on but missing several teeth. after head removal it was actually cheaper to buy a used head, because every valve was bent...

I would be nervous going 100k on a belt on an interference engine.
I see it as cheap insurance to change them a little early.

Almost no other item can do such massive damage in such short order.

I like my non interference- timing chained engines in this respect.

People's ignorance about Tbelts does work to the manufacturers advantage.

Might have been a Continental Tbelt kit a friend just put into his wife's car recently. A nice bright sticker was supplied, with engine appropriate adhesive on it. Great reminder, and good info for a subsequent buyer, if the belt change info is right there, when you open the hood.

I just had the timing belt, water pump, idlers, cam seals, and belt tensioner replaced on my son's hyundai tiburon for $350 parts and labor. His manual stated interval was 60,000 miles.

That seems like a reasonable price, all-in.
