I don't know if they sell tractors at my local cabelas but am heading there in a bit so I will find out.

As for the question of will they make a go of it or not or even if it was a good move from a business standpoint? I certainly dosnt seem out of the realm of reasonable thinking on their part. If you look at their customer base they certainly will be adding to the list of potential buyers and have a much broader audience to attract new people to possible ownership and uses of a tractor. Anyone who thinks the market for this type of machine has been tapped out is nuts.
Even along the lines of one poster commenting on people moving to the country, then after a year or two going back to the city because of the hardships out here. My neighbors are selling again! They have survived for two winters and in that time purchased a shinny new tractor to clear the snow and do misc work around their property after seing what I could do with my JD when they were trying to dig out an old stump. Now its time they are fed up and sold their machine and house and moving back to the city. The new neighbor is virtually the same as the old fresh from the city and will probably see me or the other neighbor doing the fields in short time and while at the local cabelas see a similar machine and buy it in hopes of being able to use it effectively to maintain their land. Within a year or two they too will sell and move back to the city in favor of an easy life style and sell their machine letting yet an other country wanna be move in in their place. Its a never ending process for these folks as I have had so many new neighbors in that house that I lost count and cant even remember their names any more. Think I am alone here? Don't count on it!
If I knew for certain that my local cabelas was going to sell tractors I would have re thought my purchase and might have even went with a TYM or maybe even a cabelas painted machine if a decent price could be had on one. My only real concern with the TYM was parts and if cabelas is selling them and service their product they will definitely make all the common parts less bothersome and time consuming to get. I also prefer the green paint to the standard red that TYM uses.

Heck! I might even steer them in that direction as when they decide to sell it I might just be able to get myself a nearly new shinny green LM/ TYM tractor to compliment my Kioti,

How are these selling for Cabela's now? They've been sending me a lot of catalogs lately and had some substantial price cuts on the machines.

A farmer friend's son works at a NH dealer and he claims Woods won't warranty anything sold with the green paint? You have to take it back to Cabela's. Is that true?

All Cabela's by Woods implements and attachments carry the same warranty as any Woods brand. Your farmer friend's son is mistaken.

..... A farmer friend's son works at a NH dealer and he claims Woods won't warranty anything sold with the green paint?

I might read that as "We won't service..." Not that you'd do guys like that the favor of doing biz with 'em.
Besides, wouldn't you have to break or bash something to need service? Woods' stuff is nice, if not EA-nice, and I wouldn't fear the brand.

TYM MMMs that fit similar models, if you like their stuff/service better? (All o' that there could use some paint. :D)
Buy everything else (SSQA, 3PH, etc) where the good stuff & good deals are anyway, no?

Forget all that if Cabelas is the only guy in town ....

It's an honest question. Sometimes Cabela's has some sweet promotions going (like employee pricing), so it'd be nice to know if you're "on your own" or if anyone that handles the line will be able to fix ya up if you manage to break something in the warranty period.

Cabela's is about 95 miles from my land, so I'd rather be able to drag it into somewhere a bit more local if it needed work I couldn't handle.

I am leaning more and more towards thinking that buying a TYM from Cabella's is a bad idea. As often as "retailers" are re-branding different machines these days, I would worry that the long-term support for a TYM badged as a Cabella's tractor would likely be an issue.

Take a look at "McCormick" tractors. That name has a long tradition, the original FarmAll tractors. Now, they are a virtual non-player (when it comes to actual CUT sales). They have been buying tractors from Daedong (a re-badged Kioti) for the last couple years, and before that, they were buying tractors from LS. And now, they are buying from Kukje (rebadged Branson). 3 different suppliers in the last what, half-decade?

Especially with the exposure that the internet now gives towards "truth in advertising" ... anyone can find the actual source of a Cabella's tractor within 5 minutes, and buy it straight from TYM for cheaper. So, will that send Cabella's scrambling for another OE supplier if they want to stay in the business? Are they going to try to buy units from Kukje, Daedong, Yanmar, etc ??? How can Cabella's expect to stay in the CUT market if they are selling a TYM tractor at a higher cost than TYM?

I just don't get it.

Maybe if this was 10-15 years ago, and the internet didn't make information so readily available... it could have worked. I just don't see it lasting.

Does McCormick have ties to the original McCormick or are they just using the same name?

I'm not sure. They sell larger tractors and other farm equipment. I don't know if they make their own larger tractors or equipment... maybe they do, and they just don't want to invest in building CUT's, so they buy them instead. ????

McCormick compacts are made by Daedong, McCormick's parent company, Argo sPa makes the larger tractors. The larger ones are based on a platform purchased from Case Corporation as part of the divesture of the MX Maxxum line when CNH was formed.

Woods themselves says: "All warranty work is done through a Cabela’s authorized dealer."

So unless Cabela's is authorizing other outfits to service their stuff - you are stuck bringing it to them.

Driving from the Cities to Brainerd, you could hit Cabelas off of 101 in Rogers (or Leno Equipment for Kubota and Bobcat, Elite Lift for Kioti, X-Mark for Mahindra on Highway 10).

Correction, they WERE made by Daedong. They are NOW made by Kukje.

TSO, so is the Kukje/McCormick thing a sure deal at this point? I'd heard it might happen, but I never heard the final.

If you checkout their website, it shows the new "X1" series is on the "X10" page. The "X10.xx" models were the Daedongs. The X1's are now the Kukjes.

I'm not familiar with the Branson SCUT's, but McCormick is selling the X1.35 (Branson 3520R) and X1.45 (Branson 4520R). And interestingly, those models are, to my knowledge, only available in Shuttle Shift. So that means that McCormick will no longer be offering a HST CUT from at least 35+ HP. That is a BIG slide back from the Daedong models!

Here's the page: McCormick X10 Tractor | Compact & Utility Tractor | Mccormick USA

TSO, thanks! That is interesting. Kukje manufactures a good tractor. My big concern would be if McCormick is willing to stock enough parts and really be "all-in" on this deal. That has been the weakness of Branson in the USA, parts fulfillment has been spotty. It's a huge investment to have a warehouse full of every needed part, but a company looking at the long term will do just that.

That means I have to drag it back down to the metro to get it fixed, then drag it back up. Where as if I bought a Wood's branded unit I could bring it 25 miles down to Pierz rather than 100 to the cities.

I'm not staying in the cities much longer. 2 yrs would be ideal, 5 yrs tops. I bought my tractor to start clearing land for my new house.
