Let's be realistic though, it's very unlikely that you'll need repair work on the loader itself.

I was never interested in their loader. The other implements are more attractive, but not if I have to go through Cabela's if I manage to blow a gear box on a stump.

What would be the advantage of buying a Woods implement from Cabella's? Just that awful green paint?

They have some good pricing events if you have a Cabela's credit card. I got a new camo jacket for $200 off ($160 out the door instead of over 350) in December. They also used to have $150 off a $500 purchase coupons they'd send out, but I haven't seen any that good in a while.

So if employee pricing on a backhoe was 25% less than they're marked, wouldn't you consider it in green instead of whatever Wood's painted it under their own name?

Yeah, if it was a real price though... Most retailers markup prices, then add huge discounts, which only bring it back to normal pricing.

Are the Cabella's WOODS implements priced any differently (normally) than WOODS?

They'll match prices on other stuff if it's something another outfit is capable of selling (same SKU). On their own lines - that's not possible.

I don't know if they're in line with the real market on their implements or not. I think they want 1K for a post hole auger if I remember the CL ad right (I thought that was funny for two reasons), so they're well above what a TSC auger sells for and 25% wouldn't get them in the ballpark either. I was surprised to see them turning to CL to try and sell this stuff - apparently the mailers aren't getting things moving. :)

The little backhoe was around 5 or 6K when I noticed it 6 months ago? I don't know what Wood's sells them for, but that sounded about right at the time.

I tried to price out an 84" 3pt blower, but all they have is the 74" and smaller blowers. Too small for me.

I would be very surprised if there is not a significant markup from buying direct with the OEM. (TYM or Woods) If the price is comparable then it would be interesting to see if it is a line specific to Cabelas and and of less quality or lighter weight. All complete speculation, but then again I would never consider buying any of this equipment from them.

Happened to be in the Rogers MN Cabela's today and asked about tractor sales. They've sold 24 tractors out of that store alone in the past year. So here's my serving of crow for this thread. I guess they have the market they thought they did.

They also have interest free financing for 60 months on implements over $2500. 72" grapple for $41/mo. Hmmmm

Don't get me wrong I like Cabela's. Just seems like buying a hammer in a grocery store instead of the hardware store. They just are not the first place I would think of going. I would still be interested in an apples to apples comparison of equipment prices. There has to be a markup like any resaler.

Did a quick comparison. Used the 65" boxblade.

Cabela's: 528 lbs. / 5 shanks

Woods: 925 lbs. / 6 shanks (this was the lighter of the two 65" models, the other was 1020 lbs.)

Used weight as a guide for the thickness of the steel used.

Now the rear blade looked like the same weight so it may vary by each piece.

Well, the price the guy gave me in the store was a whole bunch better than what's on their website. After the $350 shipping surcharge, the 72" comes out over $3100. No longer interested.

Cabelas wants to be America's Clothier. ;)

Not saying it never happens but never saw 0% financing (anything much over $2k) with the same net price as a cash sale. On tractors it often amounts to 5-7% folded into the price. (>$1.5k difference on my NH in 2013, $$ in high teens)
No motivation to pay loan early to lower net int cost, tho' y'can still get it 'off your books' sooner. :confused3:

In-house financing usually demands separate insurance on something that may be covered on homeowners 'if used to maintain the property'.

(Gotta run up to Kroger's to pick up lawn furniture, will stop at Speedway for lunch on the way. Might grab a candy bar at the hardware store on the way home ...) :D TSC is where I buy my Neccos.

I wonder how long it will be before Amazon sells tractors?

/ Cabelas has tractors!!?? #135
Considering you could sell them on there yourself right now through your own amazon store - it's an option. I'm not sure I'd want to have to conform to their shipping fee schedule though.

Their commissions are high too. ;)

You're comparing a heavier box blade, the BL65, a Gannon industrial 4x2 box scraper. If you compare Woods BSS65 standard duty, the specs are the same as Cabelas.

OK. Wasn't sure. I didnt see any others on the Woods site.

FYI. 24 units is an epic failure. No dealer could survive on that, and a retailer like Cabela's who looks at $$ per sq\ft is going to quickly find that its not worth the floor space.

I don't think Cabela's relies on showroom sales for bottom line profit. They have grown through mail order sales IMHO.

They have the tractors parked outside along the parking lot - they're not paying for floor space for more than 3 machines, and they didn't expand their showrooms to accommodate the tractors, they got rid of a single boat's display space and added 5 products on the floor and a rack of spec sheets for implements (there's at least a dozen offered). I never thought they sold many boats either, but somehow they do.

They are paying for a lot of advertising though. They even had a tractor at the casino. Is it going to grow into a profitable venture? Who knows. I was surprised they sold any.
