I love winter time. I get to spend time in the shop building handy things when not spending time with my wife sipping hot tea and eating cookies !
Last week's project was build a couple 'baskets' to move firewood from the storage sheds to either the shop or the hoop house, where we added a wood stove this fall for really colder days/nights. The one for the hoop house, I made on a skid type base, since I can set it right inside where it will sit during firewood season. The one for the shop, I put 4 heavy casters under, because I can't get the tractor back to the location of the stove, but I can set the basket in the door, and roll it back there by hand.
Basket is 48" wide, 32" deep (2 sticks of 16"ish wood), and 48" tall. I figure heaped up, it holds 1/3 of a cord, and probably weighs in the 1000-1200lb range. Materials to build are 7pcs of 48"x 1.5"x 1/8" square tubing, 2pcs 32", and 2 pcs 40" (to make skid). 1.5-4'x8' sheets of expanded metal, and 80" of 1.5" x 1/8" angle around the top.
