Good Morning All.

Pretty cool idea. I can see how that would be a good social interaction facilitator and way more comfy than planks on concrete blocks around a firepit. :D

Good Morning! 59˚ heading to 70˚ with a light southeast wind. Cloudy and 20% chance of rain.

Thank you Ron!!!!! We can now see the fence line. After removing a lot of brush and fallen oak trees from the several year drought and many neglected undergrowth years, we found only one place where the trees had broken one barbed wire.

Ron's giving me a needed day off. With all the grapple and tractor seat time he's probably still grinning. I'll have to check the hour meter but I think in two days he got about 9 good hours! I hope that will last him till spring when he returns to his lonely tractor. If it doesn't he'll have to return for a booster - we still have about 2 more miles of fence line to go.

Yesterday evening we an excellent midweek TBN get-together. We had a group of 12 with Ron, Mike, Kyle, myself and families.

Ron, by the end of the week I'll have my weedeater transformed into a "Whizzwhip". I think I will try the retractable 3 blade thingy and the four corner blade first, along with a harness. I'm looking for a good easy way for yearly cutting of finger size woody undergrowth.

Ron had been using the term Whizzwhip while we were clearing and I just could not figure out what type of machine/attachment he was talking about. On the second day I finally figured it out. It is a was the Michigan name for a large commercial grade Weedeater.

38 this morning and headed to 42 today. Currently raining. Looks to do that off and on all day. Wife has doctor appointment then get supplies for oil changes both vehicle really need one. After reading another thread on here I think I'm going to switch everything over to synthetic oil. Just haven't figured out which brand.

Murph the bull is doing good. He has 13 new girlfriends and is happy. He's 18 months old and about the same size as the cows. Big difference as the one he replaced weighted 1800 the other day. And he had lost weight. His hooves started bothering him. He didn't want to get up or walk very far anymore.

Rs. I have a couple of things for you to try.
First you should have a vac tube going to the fan make sure it's clear and not cracked.

Second take a nylon .22 gun barrel brush and clean the burner. You want a nice pretty blue flame. For larger openings you can use a larger brush. Make sure the orfice from the gas valve is open. If burner doesn't light in the flame sensors spot then it won't read a flame.

Check condition of squirrel cage. Rust is fine as long as you don't have missing fins. If you keep throwing the high limit switch may need to replace it or change the blower motor. Which I think you said is fairly new. Ours seem to loose a lot of performance after about 7-8 years. But I think they get more hours than a home furnace.

Good Morning. 0835, sunny, 65F with 93% humidity. Forecast high of 77F with 0% chance of rain this afternoon, and a low of 55F tonight. It was 52F at 0600 when I rolled out of bed this morning.

I just wrapped up my cardio, and was feeling really good about getting done so early. Then I remembered it was Thursday, and I have 70-75 minutes of lifting ahead of me. Not so happy as I was.

I've got a pot of pinto beans cooking. Needed to use up all the leftover ham. Margie has a conference in Orlando next week, and wants to get a haircut before she leaves. She is taking the afternoon off and we are going to Marianna. Tonight is my only night off this week, then the Christmas parties kick in to high gear.

I better get started with lifting heavy things. Hope everyone has a good day,

Larro

I think it was 29 this morning, but it looks great outside now.

I seem to have tweaked my left pectoral doing pushups this morning, sometimes I hate getting older...

I'm going out tonight with friends to sing some country-oke, and I get my daughters for the weekend.

Sill waiting for the news, but I really do not expect it before tomorrow, so... All is as good as it can be it seems...

Be well all,
David

The HVAC guy just left ... says the "roll-out" (resettable high limit breaker on the draft inducer) was tripped ... he reset it and the furnace ran, bringing the temp in the house up 7 degrees.

I think this guy might be the owner (he's older), but not sure.

That same breaker was tripped last night, the wife reset it, and the furnace would still not come on after multiple tries (including about 9 that I did myself) ...

Dude sez the draft inducer is making noise and might need to be replaced (he's commented on this before) ... so I asked: What are we talking ?

He sez probably around $500 or so for the part alone ...

I just checked online and it looks like I can pick one up for $250 or less.

I asked this guy to pick up 16" 90 degree elbow the other day, so I could complete plumbing in the woodburner to the central heat ductwork.

The backstory on that is, when the company was out several years ago to replace he heat exchanger on the gas furnace, the owner actually came out to check the service tech's work and see why it was taking so long. We got to talking about the woodburner and I told him I wanted to plumb it in but needed the sheet metal for the top (edges needed formed with a brake), a start collar, another 90 elbow (I had already installed one in the existing furnace duct) and some 16" round duct.

Owner sez fine, no problem ... give a week or two for it to slow down and we'll hook ya up.

Never happened.

Anyways, talking to the current dude last time he was here (a week or so ago), I relay the above story (including telling him that I want it plumbed in) - after he comments on his way out "You just need a little more and you'll have it hooked up ... probably be fine if you just stick another 90 elbow on there" (leaving the 90 elbow hanging in mid-air, unconnected ...)

I sez "Well, it's rather ironic that you would say that ... considering ..."

Zero reaction/response from him - after being told that his company (under the previous ownership) had failed to deliver on a commitment ... he just kept movin' for the door ... and doesn't volunteer to provide the parts - which I am completely willing to pay for (assuming a reasonable cost)

So we get upstairs and before he gets out the door I ask him if he can get the parts I need to hook up the wood burner when he picks up the gas valve. He says he'll check into it.

Takes over a week for them to get the gas valve ... from Cincinnati ... via UPS ... he ordered it on Nov 22 (Saturday before Thanksgiving) ... they installed it last night.

And the tech brought a 16" 90 elbow ... no start collar, no pipe, no sheet metal ...

Looking at the invoice this morning I see that the tech noted that he "installed" the 16" elbow ...

What he did was stick it into the existing 90 degree elbow and leave it hanging there ... didn't even drill it and screw it in ...

The charge for the elbow - which I could have ordered online for $23 ... along with the other parts that are needed - was $45 ...

Awhile back I was discussing the nature/character of the burner flames with this older guy (who might be the owner) ... which seem somewhat erratic, particularly on the 2nd burner. I suggested that perhaps that when the former company (now under different ownership) replaced the heat exchanger, perhaps the guy that did it, screwed up/missed something/didn't do it quite right etc.

This guy immediately dismissed that possibility ... as though there was no way it was even remotely possible ...

What is wrong with these people ?

What is wrong with these people ? Captive audience. They have the parts access, although that is changing somewhat. I never learned to service my own oil/gas burner but in hindsight it would be a very useful skill to develop at a young age.

Local guy here, a plumber, also does heating and cooling work. He calls his tech, he's "cheating and fooling" guy. I am not ever going to call him for a furnace or A/C problem.

I talked to a tech for a local heating and cooling place here. Young guy, was changing jobs, and I asked why? answer is $14 per hour, no bennies, he wants to get married, needs a better job. These guys get almost no training, little pay, and no bennies.

I put in a Lennox furnace a few years ago. Within 5 years, the original company was recommending replacement! I reminded them that I bought it from them, the guy goes "oh". I guess it's ok. I got another company to service it, no problems since. I've watched these guys work, I don't think they even know how to check voltage, they just replace parts. If they can sell you a new unit, they make a little more $$$.

Yup ... that ... and the ignorance of the general public as to the mysterious goings on in that big box in the basement.

While I'm sure that it ain't nothing, it ain't rocket science either.

I had to laugh in talking to this last guy about diagnostic trees and troubleshooting this thing - drawing a parallel to the automotive industry - and he came back and said "Yeah ... these furnaces can be way more difficult to troubleshoot than vehicles ..."

Uh-huh ...

Knowing what I know about modern automotive systems (a good bit), versus HVAC (a lot less) that strains credulity.

They have the parts access, although that is changing somewhat.
So it would seem ...

I never learned to service my own oil/gas burner but in hindsight it would be a very useful skill to develop at a young age.
Yes ... although I may find it to be a very useful skill at not a young age ...
