Had a very frustrating ordeal this past week with ebay-paypal-ups-zorotools...

Background: every time in the past I have ordered off eBay, there were several steps to walk through and confirm things like address. Cause I have often ordered parts for other people and had shipped to their place instead mine. Something has changed.

Now it seems once you click the "confirm and pay" button, it skips confirming anything, and goes straight to apid and order complete.

Most of you know I moved about a month ago. Seems there are multiple places between PayPal and eBay to change addresses. I thought I had all of the changed.

Long story short, I placed order without getting the option to review/change address. Next screen showed order placed and shipping to my old house.

I instantly called zoro tools. Was informed that there was nothing they could do. Some BS between them and eBay that they "have" to ship to the confirmed address. Furthermore they said as long as I had forwarding services with USPS, there would be no issue even though it is shipped ups.

And here is a funny part. I was told that if it didn't work out, I can sent it back for a refund and re-order the part with the correct address. :mur: how the **** can I ship it back if I don't get it? And why would I want to ship it back if by some maricale I do get the part?

So fast forward to today. Package was returned to ups with a note on the tracking page saying "seller has moved, trying to obtain new address."

So I get in an online chat with ups to try to "aide" them in obtaining my new address. They tell me that there is nothing they can do and they cannot change an address on their end. Said I can either contact the shipper, or pick package up at their location (about 45 minutes away). I declined that. I paid for shipping, why would I want to go pick it up?

So I call zoro again. Explain everything AGAIN. Still unwilling to help. Told me they can have it shipped back to them, get refunded, and then I can re order the part.

I took their advice and requested a refund. And then promptly re-ordered the part from a different company.

Rant off. Sorry for being long winded.

The same thing happened to me too. Luckily I tracked the package, and just picked it up at my old house when it showed it had been delivered.

PayPal has a longstanding "bug" where they store your old addresses, and when merchants use the system to receive your payment, it will randomly pull in one of the old addresses. Normally you should get a chance to select the correct one, but even then it's a pain. I always worry about situations like yours, where that address screen doesn't even come up, or by chance I forget to choose the correct one.

The real issue is that updating your address with PayPal and eBay has no effect on these old addresses. They will still pop up when placing orders through merchants. If you Google about the issue, you'll find that there is no way to correct this via your PayPal account. Some report success calling/e-mailing PayPal, but it didn't work in my case. Maybe an exorcist is needed.

Right now, whenever I place an order through a merchant and use PayPal, it defaults to my old address, then shows another old address, a deceased aunt's address (sent her flowers), the local Walmart's address (placed an online "ship to store" order once), and my parent's address 600 miles away (had orders sent to them in the past). And at the very bottom is my current address. Every dang time. No way to make it default to the new address. Sometimes I will avoid using PayPal because of this very issue -- of I have to screw around with my address, I may as well use my credit card and just type the real address in.

Wow that is crazy, I have never had any issues with ebay and I have bought 100s of items there. I am sorry to hear and maybe I am just lucky.

If it at least showed all the addresses and gave me a choice this wouldn't have happened.

For whatever reason the eBay/PayPal conglomerate didn't give that option this time?

But probably what irks me the most is that i messaged th through eBay (so they could see that it was really me) to let them know of the address error.

After a message mack stating they couldn't as per their obligations to eBay (which I find BS) I called them. Still said nothing they could do.

Soy question is why in the world were they so unwilling to help.

There are countless ways to prove my identity as if contacting them through eBay wasn't enough. Something as simple as sending them $1.00 (to be refunded) through PayPal with a note about the transaction and incorrect address. Then they would have had a message from me (the buyer) through eBay, a message from me (the payer of the item) through PayPal, as well as any confirmation numbers they wanted. I just don't get how a company can be so unwilling to help someone who just purchased from them.

All because they are soo worried about fraud and didn't want to take a few extra steps to verify I was who I said, they lost a sale, and any future business of mine. And while I am just a small drop in the bucket to them, I have spent a good chunk of money with them over the last 4-5, years on various specialty tools.

Just sad

I too have had hundred of purchases on eBay without issue. But the combination of moving, and not getting an option to change address screwed this up. And that may be my fault. Either not knowing the magical place to change my address within eBay/PayPal, or not knowing how to place the order to get that option??

I will continue to buy on eBay. Just not from zorotools.

In all of your transactions on eBay, are you always given the option to edit the shipping address? Or is it all streamlined like in my case?

I buy many items through ebay and always had the option of an address change. I have many addresses in there for reasons like yours but have never had the issue you had. I have zipped through the process and missed changing the payment from the default checking account over to my Visa acct., but I can see why they go nuts to stop fraud.

Too bad there's not a way to override that with the merchant after the sale. I might have gotten ebay involved as it was their fault.

I had some luck getting an ebay/paypal selling problem resolved by posting at the eBay Discussion Boards. I didn't get direct help from eBay/paypal, but I got a better idea from folks there that had had similar problems how to contact the right dept/person which helped.
Discussion Boards - The eBay Community

Haven't had many problems buying from eBay, only selling where the buyer is the problem.

Its not hard on PAYPAL just go to PAYPAL log on to your account and click the GEAR symbol on the upper right hand side. You can ADD, EDIT or DELETE any address you have entered. I have never had a problem with EBAY shipping even when we changed over to the E911 address system.

Unfortunately that does not correct the longstanding bug they have with storing multiple/old addresses that are used when doing transactions with merchants. My PayPal profile has exactly one address, my current one. Yet when checking out during a purchase transaction, they show 6 addresses and default to choosing an old/incorrect one. I had a problem a couple weeks ago. I ordered off e bay and accidently ordered the same item twice. I sent e bay and zorotools an e mail. Zoro sent me an email back stating that. Due to their contract with e bay, they weren't able to cancel 1 of the orders. The e mail also stated to call customer service when I received the item And they would pay for return shipping. I called when the item came in and , the person with zoro told me to keep the item ,and they would issue me a refund. So, I ended up paying for 1 item and 1item free

This happened to my wife also, shipped to the old address .She changed the Ebay account but not the PayPal account. I will tell you what I told her, not Ebay or PayPal's fault, should have corrected all the addresses after we moved. Her fault, no one else's, man up, or woman up in her case. And you can call PayPal and have old addresses removed, but you have to pick up the phone and dial the #.

I really do not understand how Zorotools does business? What they did in your case (not cancelling the other order), seems pretty stupid to me. And wanting you to have to go to a UPS store and fool around with sending it back. I would have been a but upset myself. But I am glad they let you keep it. In your case though, if they did request the item shipped back, I would be asking for more than purchase price. I would be wanting time and fuel for having to deal with there error.

Not sure I understand your logic of it being my fault. I have always been given the option to confirm and/or edit my address before the deal was done. For whatever reason, this time it didnt give me that option.

No big deal. Just call the merchant and get it straightened out right....WRONG. I have never seen any business so ****-bent on sending my item to a place I no longer live. And so unwilling to help out. THAT is why they are loosing my business.

When you order something on Ebay and pay with Paypal they make it quick and simple by automatically giving the seller your Paypal address. Paypal guarantees the seller that they will cover their losses if the buyer does not receive the package and does not pay for it IF it is sent to the confirmed address that you have established with Paypal.

Scammers buy things and have it sent to their address instead of the confirmed address of the buyer whose info they are scamming. This is why many sellers will not ship to an un-confirmed address. They will not get paid in this event.

It is very easy to change your address in Paypal when you move. Just log in to Paypal, click on the gear symbol which takes you to a page where you can delete all your old addresses and email addresses and enter your new ones.

It is NOT the sellers fault when they ship to your old address because you forgot to update your address before ordering.

It is not someone else's fault if you move and forget to update your address with USPS, Paypal, or any other entity. It is clearly your fault and a reminder to everyone to update their address, email address, phone number and even name if it has been changed and to delete their old ones on whatever web sites they are registered on.

If you make a purchase from a regular web site that you have not used before, they require you to enter your name, address, phone number, email address, credit card numbers, etc. so they can ship your order if you do not use Paypal. This is the benefit of using Paypal. It is quick and easy because you do not have to re-enter all that info again. Paypal has it stored and gives it to the seller so you don't have to re-enter it or verify it. You can either do it the old way and take the time to give the seller all the info they need plus your credit card number or you can check out the quick way using Paypal with Paypal giving them all the necessary info that you have stored with Paypal. If Paypal has your info wrong, this is because you gave them the wrong info and did not correct it. It wouldn't be quick and easy if Paypal listed all your info and asked you to verify each and every bit before they processed your payment.

Years ago, before the internet, I had an uncle who moved, and refused to give USPS his change of address because he didn't want to get all the junk mail he had been getting. Then he proceeded to complain to anyone who would listen that the government stopped sending him his social security checks.

They were going to send me a return shipping label .So, I would just have had to put it in the mail box... I also thought it was stupid that they would not just cancel the order. I e mailed e bay and zoro the instant I realized I had double ordered.. Zoro stated they had some kind of contract with e bay that wouldn't allow them to cancel an order. O' well. I ended up with a free item

This is why many sellers will not ship to an un-confirmed address. They will not get paid in this event.

They are not getting paid now. And are out shipping charges both ways, AND lost a customer all over a $50, part. Not good business IMO.

I did update my info on PayPal. And I certainly wouldn't say that doing so and clearing all the old addresses is easy. Clearly.

I thought I got rid of all the old addresses. But there was a credit card still linked with my old address preventinge from completely getting rid of it that I didn't know. But even so, my new address was still there.

I understand that scammers are a real problem. But there are other ways to prove I was not a scammer. I contacted them through my eBay account that ordered the part. That should be proof enough. But even if not...I could have contacted them through the account that paid for the darn part. Or any other way they wanted me to prove I wasn't a scammer. But they were totally unwilling to help.

In the world of business, mistakes (on both sides) happen. But how customer service resolves these issues separate good companies from bad ones. IMO this could have been handled better. As a result, I am an upset customer stating my experience to hopefully help others avoid a hassle.

So weather anyone feels it is my fault or not, fact remains that I still have multiple address linked to my account cause I often ship to different places depending on what I am buying. Now its a crap-shoot weather I will get an option to pick a different address with whatever changes eBay made.

Yea, you got lucky with how it turned out. But imagine if they had shipped ups or fex ex and DID want the part returned. And your nearest drop was a 45 minute drive out of the way.

It easily could have turned out differently.
