Things are a little different out here... at least in my city.
Police are very selective in what they will respond and much "Police" work is left to technicians.
An example...
A few months ago I posted about a burglary in progress and police responded overwhelmingly with the first car in a couple of minutes.
About a week later my neighbor came home and found his house burglarized, window broken, took jewelry, cash, computer and the police NEVER came out... he was told to file a report online.
Two weeks after that the City Manager of a nearby city home was burglarized in my city... no police response... she called her police chief who called the chief of my city and then received a full response with fingerprints, photos, etc...
There are 14 homes on my street... we had a meeting and it was suggested we could install cameras with remote monitoring... I and another volunteered are homes for sites, another had access to hardware and another did the install... each home was asked to contribute $100 and within 24 hour we had $1300... the one that did not contribute was not asked... 98 years old and in a continuing care...
We are also thinking of paying for private patrol which is a significant on-going expense... another group did this and the patrol caught someone breaking into a car... there was a struggle and the perp was shot... now everyone is getting sued because "After all it was just a kid breaking into a car"
The officer that ran the plate is a friend of a friend and subject to disciplinary action if personal information was given out and works 90 miles from here. I've had the same at work... except I'm within earshot when the information comes back over the officers radio...
There is another option... I can go to DMV and pay a fee, provide all my information and in 7-10 days I will get a postcard with the info... they need to first make sure the plate does not belong to an elected official, law enforcement... etc.
What surprises me is nothing has been taken... the tools, rebar, tires, battery, etc.
