Good morning!!!!

Good Evening. 1910, light rain, 75F with 92% humidity. The high today was 92F, and the forecast for tonight's low is 72F with a 50% chance of rain.

I can count the number of crows I have ever killed on one hand and have some fingers left over. Can't say the same about deer. But then I don't sit in the crowstand for hours at a time either:D Although I have tried to clear them out from our pecan trees many a time. They seem to know if you have a gun in your hand or not.

Larro

I crawled (literally) through five acres of woods once trying to sneak up on crows in their roost tree. Didn't work.

There is nothing here I worry about the crows eating or destroying. They have been spending a lot of time on the ground lately, stalking bugs I guess. Grasshoppers and crickets are pretty numerous now. I can never get a good look at what they are catching--'cause I can't sneak up on them.

61F and partly cloudy @ 22:00 ... warmer than I thought it would be at this hour.

Last night was just beautiful - very clear with a large moon and lots of stars - but quite a bit of fog near the ground. Would have made for some nice pics with the right camera.

I just woke up and am enjoying my first cup.

I worked until around 14:00 today before I couldn't go any longer and needed a nap.

Starting to get the wiring for the switches that control the shop lighting sorted out ... there is a section of ceiling drywall about 18" wide x 10' long near the man door that was never put up because the wiring needed handled. Be nice to get that up ... probably make a difference in heating/cooling the shop.

I need to run some 2 x 2 on the end joist so that I have something to screw the ceiling drywall into and then add a couple of 4" square boxes for the connections from the power feed, the switches, and the lights themselves. Mounted a piece of 3/4" plywood just below the switches and the mounted the fencer and an outlet for it on that.

Picked up a small 13w dusk to dawn CFL that I need to mount and wire up on the outside wall ... trying to see my keys and the lock on the door in the dark is getting old ... to say nothing of the hazard of tripping and falling over something. The old (non-working) mercury vapor security light needs removed ... I'll replace it with a 500w floodlight controlled by a switch.

I snagged this out of the studio the other day and planned to install it last night on the muffin fan I mounted on the bandsaw to avoid any painful experiences:

Clearly I wasn't quick enough ... because I managed to stick my right hand into the fan last night while it was running while trying to reposition the cutting head for an angle cut ...

The fan blades contacted the end/tip of my middle finger ... didn't draw any blood but it was incredibly painful ... to the point that it had me screaming expletives and doing the whoodle dance around the shop for several minutes. Left a bit of a blood blister underneath the finger nail.

This is a good example of why I don't like tossing stuff ... particularly steel drops.

A small/narrow piece of 1" plate that was scavenged out of a fab shop's drop dumpster. It had a little bit of weld on it where it been tacked onto something which I ground off:

With a little modification, it looks like it will be just the right size:

Now for what happens when you get in a hurry and don't think things all the way through (IOW: stupidity):

The piece is cut with the appropriate angles to fit the teeth ...

IMG_1516.jpg
The problem here is the separating cut made to the bottom piece: I used a 90 degree cut (making them the same as the top "shank")... where if I had used a reverse angle cut, at least two of the pieces would have had the correct back taper for a mounting shank ... and would have had a longer length to weld to the bucket, making the mount stronger.

Instead we have three very short shanks:

IMG_1518.jpg

But wait ... it gets even better.

If I had checked my inventory a little better, I would have noticed I had another piece of 1" plate that could be used and would have allowed me to make 3 longer shanks out of two pieces, instead of 3 shorter ones out of the first piece:

Arrgh ...

I need to drive a ground rod at the shop since there was never one driven when the electric service was originally installed.

I don't relish the idea of doing it manually with a sledge hammer and I do have a SDS Max Hammer drill ... so why not use that ?

In fact, I understand that several companies offer a SDS Max bit to do exactly that. Checking online I see that prices for said bit appear to range from $45 to $60+ ... not gonna happen.

I purchased the 3 short SDS Max bit set from Harbor Freight for $25 (on sale)

So ... one of those is going to be sacrificed to make a ground rod driver bit.

I chose the 3/4" bit since it is the one size that is common between the two sets of bits (long and short) ... so I'll at least I'll still have that size covered, even if it is only with the longer bit.

IMG_1521.jpg

Cut the most of the bit off jus below the taper and then used a 1 1/2" bi-metal hole saw to cut a plug from a piece of 3/8" or 1/2" plate ... and drilled out the plug to accommodate the drill bit shank. Stuck those together and clamped them in a C clamp and welded them together. Then I cut a piece of Schedule 40 pipe which had an OD of 1 1/2" ... plenty big enough to accommodate a ground rod:

Now I just have to weld them together:

45 right now and a high of 75 predicted...another nice day ahead of us! Looks like a cool down over the next couple weeks...most daily highs in the mid to upper 60's and nights in the mid 40's.

68 high of 70 later with light rain and showers all day long. Probably good as I need another to get rid of this crud. Breathing is very difficult and coughing well let's say one cringes at the thought. I was a bad boy and wife has it too, now we live in a pest house.

Crows are one of the most difficult things to sneak up on or shoot for that matter. Seems they have a sixth sense for things. Good morning

Coffee is brewing. 50° with clear skies this morning. Heading to 76° with sunny skies all day. Pond cleaning day. After a visit with my mother.
Good Morning All.

In the 40’s this morning, been awhile since I could say that. Going to warm up and be a nice day.
Got the barn cleaned out yesterday and the cement man came by to take a look see.
We have decided to insulate and add radiant heat in the floor. The biggest cost will be the insulation and I am not too sure if I will ever hook it up but it will be there if I want to.
Having the insulation in the floor will certainly help in the winter time.
