Picked up this 2007 PJ dump trailer last week. Gooseneck, 78"x14' bed, 15,880gvwr, slide out ramps, spreader gate with barn doors, and a tarp kit. Very nice shape, only used a handful of times. Tires are in great shape, even has original battery in it. Tractor will fit in nicely, can't wait to haul some loads of wood.

Wow, really nice OHV, what did you give for it? Do you have a Class A CDL for that puppy?

I ended up paying 5,500 for it.

From what I've read, no Class A required here if under 26k (private individual, not a business.). But my truck is 20,000GCWR with an 8800 GVWR. The trailer is 15880 GVWR weighing 4950 empty, so what I'm assuming to be a total GCWR of 24680. Not really sure how that's going to work if I'm ever checked.

I've read it going down a few different ways.

If your truck gvwr is 8800 and your trailer gvwr is 15880 your gcwr should be 24680 for that combo, as far as weight rated specs you should be under cdl, which is a gcwr of 26001 or better. If you were hauling it with a 1 ton dually you'd surely be over. Based on your manufacturer specs from Dodge, with the trailer at capacity you'd be 4680 or Dodge gcwr.

Looks like you got a really good deal.

Well thank you for clearing that up a little. Any information I've "gathered" from governing bodies' sites is cloudy at best.

I've very pleased with it so far, but I haven't really even used it yet.

Forgot to mention it's power up and down.

Only thing I want to add is stabilizing jacks for the rear of the trailer when driving my tractor up onto it. I don't worry about lifting my truck, I just see no reason to stress the trailer that way if it's not needed.

I believe a new ones of these is $9-10k.

Yep. Mine is 16 feet, with 8k axles. I need the length to haul my tractor, and the 16k for gravel. Would have liked to buy used, but these are hard to find.

16 footers are definitely hard to find. The only one I came across was sold. It was a Gatormade for $5000. Nice looking trailer too.

Nice find OHV
I have a 16' er x 80" wide made by Cross Country Trailers. Bought it new. 16' ers are rare. Trailer builder told me they only build 16' ers on request because they are not a popular size. Claim they sell 90 of the smaller dump trailers for every 16' they make.

You still need to have your truck and trailer plated for the weight and you may want to discuss your insurance coverage with your carrier. Light duty trailers with the lawn mower on are one thing, 15-16k gross trailers are another.

My local PJ dealer wanted about 8600 or 8700 for the sixteen foot version back around 2011 or 2010. I also think that you did well.

Very true. In Ohio, they don't plate trucks for weight, as far a I know. I'll have to check on the trailer plate when I go to get it next week.

I also need to get ahold of my insurance, thanks for the reminder.

Also, Just because a trailer is capable of hauling a weight doesn't mean you have to put that weight on there. OHV, great find!

That is a good point. I will see how the truck handles a 6000lb tractor in there and go from there. I live less than 1 mile from two different gravel pits as well. I've been busy this week with a shutdown at work and building a grapple that I've yet to put a load in it.
