Tractor
820 German made 1971, 1973 2030 j.d. w/145 fel
Hi all. okay here goes. I think I am buying a new tractor (almost positive) and have narrowed it down to these 2. Was quoted LS at $35900 and JD at $36500. the JD dealer told me he would swap the ag tires out for the industrial, and fill tires. The LS has a cab which I think I would like, also has more remotes and features. Probably going back Tuesday or Wednesday to try both out a little but might just stick with the advise given here. I will be mainly bush-hogging and hauling hay with forks front and back. Will also be doing food plots and gardens, a friend is trying to talk me into getting a tiller and doing work (food plots, gardens, bush-hogging etc) with the tractor for $.So the 35 to 36 thousand dollar question is which one?

Hmmm. The LS weighs at least 1,000 pounds more than the Deere. And it has a cab, rear remotes included in the price, and has a sync shuttle across the full range of gears.

The Deere, I believe, has only a partially synchronized shuttle (i.e., only certain gears). I think.

Deere is made in India. LS is made in South Korea.

LS has the clear advantage in everything except paint color. If you are someone that trades often or worries about resale value, the Deere will win that battle. But for anything else, I'd take the LS.

Don't know if you've ever had a cab before, but I can't tell you how nice it is to be out working in 100 degree weather in a 70 degree cab with the radio going and watching the yellow jackets flying around outside the cab.

In addition to what Pappy mentioned, the LS has a PTO that you can select 540/750/1000rpm, an 8gal bigger fuel tank, 6" longer wheelbase, a larger displacement engine that makes rated power at a lower RPM, slightly more hydraulic pump flow, larger wheels/tires all around, oh and that little advantage of 20 transmission speeds forward and reverse compared with 9 forward, and 3 reverse. To make it an even more unfair contest, the LS can lift double what the Deere can on the 3pt, and the FEL can lift almost 400lbs an extra 13" in lift height.

In other words, there is no comparison, even if the LS didn't have a cab with heat and A/C!

Seems its no contest here. Based on this info I wouldn't even bother going to look at the JD.

Thanks guys. Yes I do worry about resale but only if it gives me to many fits. As for the cab I know I would like it until the air quit or as I said bush-hogging rocks thru the window. and last but not least is height clearance for in the woods and barns. Again thanks.

Oh and the J.D. is the 12 speed tranny with power reverser.

Man, based on what I read here, it's a no-brainer. Korea vs. India, cab vs. no cab, size and power and hydraulics, what's not to like? Resale is often a matter of well you've taken care of your tractor- dirty and beat or clean and cared for, with a nice "patina" of use. Assuming they both still worked as intended, most of us would go for the LS, used, I think.

Both are brand new at dealers lot.

Got it... I was commenting on the post about Deere green being a better choice for later, possible, resale. Whatever it is, take care of it, and assuming the manufacturer is still in business when you go to sell it, it should hold its value.

IMO.. i'd take some more time to figure out what your needs really are before doing anything rash. Questions like having a cab or not should not be a seat of the pants decision.

Gonna go measure the barn doors and check on clearance for the cab. Can not believe I almost forgot that! A dealer told me a few minutes ago that LG owns LS. Did not make me feel better about LS. But still thinking thats the direction to go, maybe, possibly. Decisions decisions.

You might go to the LS forum and start reading. You will find very few issues or problems with LS tractors of all sizes.

LS has also built tractors for New Holland (Boomers), Montana, and others for many years. I believe they have been selling under their own name for about 5 years or so.

My next tractor will be an LS.

Good luck with your decision!

I have the Turbo version of that tractor with the power shuttle and electronic hi/lo, the P7030 CPS. I have had only two issues, a loose hose clamp and I had to extend the bolt stops on the wheels. It's been a great tractor and that sounds like a really fair price. Plus it's a tier III.

You will never regret the cab and don't let the barn door hold you back. A cabbed tractor can sit outside until you get it raised.....

Deerherd, Setting out side is fine for the tractor but I hate packing and stacking round bales by hand. Just got back from the barn and forgot to measure.. Oh well something else to do in the morning. And last but not least does everybody that has a cab have the air blow cold? I talked to a "neighbor" that I thought had a Montana ( It is the LS 7010 3 years old) and he told me that on a hot day like today the air would just barely be cool below the point of being uncomfortable. The one I looked at the dealer was mostly idling and it was not cold so I thought if working it would be cooler but he said it did not effect his. Dealer in Georgia said it should fog the windows. Whats up Doc? Oh and the Georgia dealer said it was made by LG and I can't standdss LG cra uh stuff but thinking have to get over it in this case cause I will probably be getting it tomorrow. If they will deliver and throw in a spike for the front!

That Montana 7010 is a TYM tractor that was made for Montana. It is not an LS machine just so that you know. As far as the AC, good chance that the condenser is plugged up.

Be sure to get up pics of the new machine. :cool2:

Or, you can do like some people here have done with their cabs or ROPS, just drive through the doorway. You'll either raise the doorway or lower the cab - one or the other. :D

You're right. That decision should be made on a 100 degree day with dust blowing in your face and yellow jackets swarming. ;)

Mtnveiw, ya I found out Saturday it was LS so went to talk to him today.
Pappy. I have been bush-hogging on the 2030 the last couple weeks and so I agree with what you said.
Also how wide is the outside to outside on the rear wheels, I have a six foot International Technologies bush-hog and might need to be looking for another. Did find a mx8 for $3000 and am trying to talk the the money handler into letting the purse open a little wider.

With the tires set to the widest, mine is right at 90". The tires on the 7010 are a little smaller so I would guess mid 80's as far as width.

Dang I guess I will definitely have to look for a bigger hog, the 6' I use now is about 4" or 5" less then the 2030 and I feel like I smash as much as mow. Well got to go to dr's then to look at tractors etc. Again' thanks everybody.
