Hi folks, I'm considering adding a joystick control to my Ford 3930 which is currently controlled with the rear remotes. I'm actually used to using the remote levers but I'd like to free them up for other uses. What all would be involved with adding a joystick and roughly what would it cost? Thanks for any advice and info.

Here is a joystick valve that will work for you.

2 SPOOL COMPACT 10 GPM JOYSTICK CONTROL VALVE

Hydraulics:
Type: open center
closed center (optional)
Pressure: 2500 psi [172.4 bar]
Valves: 0 to 2 (open center)
1 to 4 (closed center)
Pump flow: 7.7 gpm [29.1 lpm]
12.8 gpm [48.4 lpm] (optional)
Steering flow: 3.6 gpm [13.6 lpm]

Good deal, that's not too bad on price. Thanks for the link.
Does anyone know the best way to plumb it in on this tractor?

Is your tractor closed or open center? That will be a determining factor on which way to attach valve & what type valve required.

His tractor data is posted above.

But the again, we don't know if he has the optional closed center system.

Sorry guys I'm not sure if it has open or closed. The tractor information card under the hood has a number for hydraulic pump, and another number for hydraulic lift. Does that mean 2 pumps ? How can I tell for sure?
It's a fwd with the synchro shuttle transmission if that makes a difference?

That's the reason I asked OP if he knew what type hyd's his tractor had. I know some Ford tractors have CCLS hyd systems

I just snapped a couple pics, not sure if this shows what type I have though.
Let's see if this works..

I think your breakaways are CCLS. If I'm correct to bypass breakaways and plumb JS valve directly to hyd's you'll need a CCLS JS valve.

Just put a hyd gage in a tee in the IN port of the first valve and if there is pressure at all times, it is closed center.

Open center hyd system will have no or very little pressure on the gage..

Correct. The OP will need a CCLS valve and will need to custom fabricate connections to pressure, return, and signal flows.
An open center valve rated for 10 GPM flow is inadequate in terms of capacity and function for the OP's tractor.

The valve I posted will work just fine.

The valve can be converted to CC with a CC adapter. or just plug the PB port.

Tractor data says his implement pmp is 7.7 GPM .

You are over your head again, I was trying to ignore your inaccurate advise, but you insist on continuing. The Op needs a load sensing valve to accomplish what he desires. And his tractor has the optional auxiliary pump, providing combined flow of about 17 GPM. I have been wrenching on and selling parts for Ford tractors for nearly 20 years and have answered this exact question a dozen times. You give advise based on incomplete info published on tractor data .com. The OP installs the valve you select in the manner you want, his loader won't move when he pulls the lever. Is that what you want?

I agree with RickB. As I previously stated CCLS hyd's such as the Ford has is not a true closed center system such as a JD. I know as I owned a Ford 5610 with CCLS that ate my lunch before I finally kinda understood how it worked.

If I am wrong, please forgive me as I am so ignorant at times and to old to learn more.

Thanks for the replies folks. So to keep the full flow what would be the best setup? I don't want to have a joystick at the expense of slowing the loader down. Does anyone know how much a load sensing joystick would cost?

I guess my other option would be to forego the joystick and just add additional remotes if possible. Would this be a simple solution?
Thanks again for the help.

You can do as you wish with a CCLS valve and custom plumbing. That, and adding two OEM remotes will be the most expensive options. Would not be hard to spend $750- $1200 to do either depending on how you approach the project. Plenty of Ford tractors with your hydraulic system use a closed center joystick valve fed from one remote valve. Not ideal, but (relatively) cheap. You need to center the valve feeding the OC joystick valve before the other remote valve will work. You can install one (or two) electric splitter valves to your existing remotes. Splitters will create 2 OR MORE circuits from each remote valve, depending on what you buy.

Farm Equipment Solutions | Fasse Valves

Contrary to the prior discussion, any spool valve you supply with flow from your existing remote valves MUST be open center. Diverter valves such as any Fasse product ase just that, diverters and are neither open nor closed center.

I'd definitely rather not spend 1200$. I appreciate everyone's help here, as I know only basic stuff about hydrualics. So with the joystick fed from one remote the remote lever would need to be held open for the joystick to get fluid correct? That's how my 3610 is. Would this setup give me less flow to the loader than what I currently have with both remotes?

With the splitter valves like in the other thread could I just keep my remote levers for loader control but still have selectable levers or switches to divert fluid to additional hookups in the rear? I guess that would require lots of hoses though?
