PTO will not stay engaged

I have a JD 955 that will not allow the PTO to stay engaged. I guess I could bungee cord the lever in place, but that doesn't solve the problem. Anyone have any ideas as what to look for?

On the bottom of the dash, there is a spring that holds the lever in the engaged position. Your spring is probably broken or missing. Order item #24 in diagram.

We'll I have replaced both springs even the one for the euro version and still have the same problem of the PTO handle dis-engaging. Anymore ideas as to why this is happening or what to look for?
