In my opinion the societal paranoia is being whipped up by the anti gun crowd, you know, the ones who blame guns not people for all the shootings. :

Can you or anyone tell me why, in God's name, the NRA doesn't come out and publicly condemn these mass shootings? Why, after the UCSB shooting (my alma mater) didn't someone from the gun lobby come out and say that things have gotten out of hand and we need to do more to make sure guns don't end up in the hands of the mentally ill? That increased scrutiny, more intensive background checks, medical background checks might be needed? Instead, the NRA seems to always double-down following one of these tragedies and say what we need are more guns. It's simply stupid and they aren't representing responsible gun owners very well.

It's my understanding that in order to use a gun effectively in an emergent situation, one needs to train and continue to train with those scenarios in mind. I highly doubt that a homeowner with a gun in their pocket opening the door will stand a chance of getting the weapon out, leveling it and firing at their target as the aggressor pushes the door in swarms and attacks the homeowner. Multiply that doubt by 10 if the gun/homeowner is over 60 years old. The only way one would have a chance is if the gun was out and leveled at the Fuller Brush Man or the Avon Lady when the door was opened. As was said before, after a few friends are greeted this way, the friends will stop coming around.

Sure we condemn the shootings. We have came out against it. When are the anti gunners going to come out for a REAL penalty for Felony Gun possession?

I can agree with you on your first paragraph completely and add the NRA should also speak out against open carry period....be it long guns , pistols or revolvers....people walking around with exposed firearms who are not police are only hurting legitimate gun owners and all concealed carry folks...I know I would not feel comfortable in a public place with folks walking around openly carrying long guns and pistols. So there is that...

I disagree with you on the 2nd paragraph...I said I went to the door with a pistol in my pocket...and I know what I'm doing..the pistol is designed to be carried in a pocket...all edges are smooth and with my hand in my pocket on the pistol grip I can have all 6 rounds in an aggressor is under3 seconds...You have to train for scenarios you believe could happen...you pray they don't but not wanting to gamble with my families lives...I choose to be prepared for any eventuality no matter how unlikely....Always remember folks do train with their weapons...also remember a pistol does not have to be drawn from all holsters or pockets to be fired...with a chambered round I can fire my pistol from my pocket with no harm to me....research this to be better informed.

.research this to be better informed.

Thanks for your condescension. It's not really the open carry attention ****** I worry about. It's the mentally disturbed young man who somehow legally obtains handguns and goes on a rampage. The NRA needs to be screaming for increased background checks on purchase - to do anything less is to promote these types of incidents.

>>You have to train for scenarios you believe could happen...you pray they don't but not wanting to gamble with my families lives...I choose to be prepared for any eventuality no matter how unlikely...<<

While I'm sure you put in training on a daily basis and your reflexes are that of a 20 year old, others may not be, and likely aren't. And so you're prepared for an RPG attack, drone strike, ninja surprise? All that training and preparation must be exhausting...

Also, and again I haven't done the research, but I don't believe it's safe gun practice to have a chambered round in the gun you carry in your pocket. You are asking for trouble.

No condescension intended - I could tell you were not that familiar with firearms and was suggesting you research...I can tell we will not agree on this...I will always attempt to protect my family...and by the way...you are wrong about the chambered round in a pistol in my pocket...If the pistol is designed with a trigger saftey ..so there is an example of just some of the research I was referring to when I suggested you undertake same...

Have a nice day.

The biggest problem with discussions with anti gun people is the almost total ignorance of anti gun people concerning the topic of guns and their utilization.. Notice I said ignorance not stupidity. If you are ignorant on a subject that can be fixed. You can be educated. You can gain knowledge so that you are no longer ignorant.

Television and other popular media help to promote this ignorance as does an almost universal desire of anti-gun folks to remain ignorant. Many anti-gun folks almost consider it a badge of honor to remain ignorant because they do not want to be "tainted" by acquiring knowledge of such "inherently evil" things. Of course this line of thinking may not apply to all anti-gun people, but in my opinion it applies to a lot of them.

There have been many "converts" of course that were once ignorant but when exposed to the facts about guns and their utilization have changed their opinions.

My point is, it is very difficult to converse with a person who does not possess all the facts about an issue like guns and how they are utilized, and what benefit to an individual and society as a whole they may be.

I am not saying these understandings are easy to acquire, in fact in our society with many media and social biases against gun usage they are in fact difficult to acquire. I would hope many of you that are anti-gun now would take to time to understand the pro gun viewpoint. After all, it is not about guns, it is about people.

Those of you who have know some of us that are pro gun, like myself or Brin, or TripleR or Roy Jackson or others that you know are pro gun and posses guns, do you think we are "living in fear" "are paranoid" or "military wannabees"? Is that what you really think about our personalities? Does this jive with what you see of the rest of our persona? I don't think so, and If you admit the truth to yourself I don't think you will think so either.

If you would take the time to view many or all of this young mans you-tube videos I would think you would have a somewhat better understanding of our viewpoint.

I agree. When I see a guy walking around open carry I think he's at least some level, a wacko, and prefer to put some distance if ya know what I mean. Good point that none of the shoot-em-ups have had cc permits, that helps a little. I hadn't thought of that. But no question they are damaging the cause for gun ownership, I bet 9 of 10 people think "what a wacko" and this (benign event!) has just added to 9 people's opposition to guns.

If something were to "happen" I would not trust this guy to protect anybody, I bet (if he didn't just clear out too) that he'd shoot the wrong guy.

I agree and I have always thought the guy openly carrying a weapon was just begging to be the first one shot by a bad buy....Think about it ...if you were a bad guy going to rob a store and you saw a guy with a gun on his side...wouldn't you shoot him first..?...LOL
