Something happened to the toolbar on my Firefox web browser; it has shrunk and moved up toward the top of the page, and the name of the thread I am on is shown, right below it, as if it were typed on the tab of an old fashioned file folder. I hate this format, but can't figure how to change it back. I don't know if this is something that Firefox did, or if somehow my format was hijacked. I noticed that my old IE browser is still ok. Anyone know what happened and what the fix is?

Thanks in advance,

Dennis

Same here and I don't know how to change it back either. I switched to Firefox to escape IE's latest meltdown, but still trying to get used to it. It only imported some of my bookmarks, the rest, for some reason, are in a folder called 'From Internet Explorer'.

Try Google Chrome. I don't use IE at all, have used Firefox in the past, but now Chrome only.

Firefox changed when I did a manual update to 29.0.1 a week ago. Had to customize tool bar to get the bookmark tool bar back and some other menu items. I don't like it as well but I have gotten use to it.

I just checked and my version of Firefox is 30.0 and it is fine...There is a new feature where you can right click on a tab you have open and pin it to the top of the page...but otherwise it looks fine to me....I've used Firefox for years and it updates automatically...I just get use to the changes...I would never go back to IE or Chrome....

The latest update (late last week) wasn't compatible with some add-ins. I lost my favorite theme...otherwise, it works fine.

Everything works fine on the updated version for me too. I did lose my red cats blue flavour but I lost them before and now I don't really care.
The only thing I noticed different is the rounded corners on the tabs rather than the square corners.

Mine works fine, the "add more apps" icon stays at the end now, but no biggie.

I used the restore classic add-on as I despised the tabs on top layout. Lost my Weatherfox app which really irks me, hopefully an updated version will be out soon.

My Firefox updated Friday last week to Ver. 29.0.1
It still works fine for me. Pages show a rounded tab on top left. But I still have my File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help above the tab. I thought something looked different but couldn't put my finger on what it was till this thread.

I stopped using firefox when it stopped being compatible with adobe/Java. I figure that adobe and java were engaged in turf wars pushed by google and chrome. I used to be a netscape user, but that crashed to ieexplorer.
All tiresome.

Can you explain? I am running Firefox with the Adobe Acrobat, Flash and Java plugins installed and they work fine.

At work we use a mandated grading program based on java. Firefox will not allow it to operate the way it wants to re cookies and so firefox cannot run the grade book. The same program runs fine on chrome. Certain video games will not run in firefox.
Java plugin does not work in Firefox Java plug-in does not work in Firefox after installing Java
I haven't found a firefox update yet that works. I tried again today with a new download.

The issues related in those stories are all ones where you have an option to enable Java (ie: a certain Java plugin will always be on "Click to enable" because FF developers are having a tiff with Oracle and their "lack of response to security issues") vs not letting it run at all.
You might try adding the site to the "Exception Site List" in the Java Control Panel (How to configure the Exception Site List). I was banging my head against the wall with a similar issue and was saying bad things about Firefox when it was actually a new "feature" in Java 7u51 where it refuses to run an unsigned applet (Specifically, the Tire Size Calculator at: Tire size calculator).
Chrome and IE bundle their own versions on Java on newer releases so they don't have this issue.
