So far I have let to even use the brake on the HST .

Ive used mine maybe twice now for making sharp turns in the mud ( I mean the mud was already there. Doing brake turns guarantees that there will be mud afterwards)

My thought though, is that of I were in a "Oh... F...." moment. I'd want the brakes where I normally find them, and the very occasional inconvienance of needing to brake steer with my left foot is worth the safety factor of having the brake pedal on the right.

I try to only engage the differential lock w/o load, so the clutch would be in. A left side lock pedal wouldn't work for me, at least. How about a hand lever?

None of the tractors I grew up with had foot throttles, so using a hand throttle is no big deal for me.



I don't think I have either. I have seen some with oddly placed hand throttles, like they don't expect you to use them.:confused2:

I've had 3 Kubotas from 1980 and a big Case, all the same config. I use the foot throttle about half the time, but rarely ever use the bakes for steering. Do use the clutch quite often.

I did use it to stop my PTO post hole digger a bit before disengaging the PTO lever, but I could have just pulled the lever.

I don't think the grands have a clutch on the HST.

I use the steering brakes a bit. Annoying to sit side saddle to run the HST & brakes at the same time, but not hard to do.

I obviously use the parking brake, but with the HST have little to no need for stopping brakes. In low the HST can hold the tractor pretty well on a bit of slope. It will creep a fair bit in medium range though, requiring brakes on a slope.

My L3200 has a decent bit of a jerky hitch. Its annoying but not violent. I've been doing a bunch of boxblading & been annoyed, but not angry. I still think my L3200 with jerky hitch was better than a JD 3032e (which lacks turning brakes, among other things). Content with it my choice.

The fact my L3200 is hot & dusty in the summer & cold in the winter will be causing its eventual replacement with a pimped out cabbed tractor when i can afford it rather than jerky 3pt.

Grands up until the L60 did, but then the clutch was eliminated and brakes were moved to the left side. I have found no use for the clutch, had an L30, now L40.

I expect they exist on the economy tractors to minimize the different parts required between the HST & gear tractors. If they didn't have the clutch safety interlock to start the thing, I wouldn't have any problems removing my clutch pedal for more room on the operators station (although I'm sure I could defeat that interlock if I cared enough to bother).

That pretty much sums up my opinion too, I looked at a 3038 last weekend, it didn't do much for me. Glad I have the Kubota.

I bought the L3200 and find that using the foot throttle very handy it being a gear drive. If they made a GST in the L3200 that would have been my preferred tranny. I am really wanting a GST for I guess I have to step up to a 3240 to get one. I am not a a fan of the HST, but I have never owned one. Plowing this Winter with the use of 1 leg made me rethink me wanting a different transmission. My L3200 is siky smooth all hydraulics. The power is impressive, and it does all around all things well. I would buy another one, but it would be a GST.

why on earth would you not want a hydro unless it was your right leg that was disabled?

Exactly. My right leg broke after falling on ice. It made me able to plow all Winter long, with a steady throttle driving a gear drive tractor. I did not like the HST I drove at the dealers, but was blown away by the Mahindra with the GST.

Thanks, I have never been a patient, and never want to be one again. Riding my L3200DT was a miracle, I manage to keep my sanity, but just barely.

Learning how to hop straight up about 15" for the first step was a hoot. Good thing I still have upper strength, pulled myself up from the steering wheel. Never realized how important the right foot throttle was until I could not use it. I save 1/2 the time using it with the DT, but had to use the bucket to stop.

I will give you credit for persevering with the broken leg. If my right let was broken, I could not operate my tractor as you have to have a good right leg to push on the hydro pedals. You don't even need a left leg at all. My brakes are on the left, but you don't really need them with a hydro, you can even hold still on a hill by applying just a bit of reverse pedal.
