Looking to buy a scut. Tossing around the idea of a BX1870 with 54 deck or BX2370 with 60 deck. Not really plan on getting the FEL. Main use would be for mowing, pulling a trailer (firewood etc) and snow removal. I have a 200 ft blacktop driveway and about 3 acres to mow. 3pt hitch would be used for aerator, sprayer, spreader, etc.. Dealer priced me the 2370 with 60 deck at 12,500 OTD. I want it to be a 20 yr tractor if I'm going to spend that kind of money... Is this overkill? I tried a ZTR for mowing and HATED it! Is this the way to go, is it worth the money?

Also looked at New Holland Boomer and Mahindra Max both with Mitsubishi diesel.

I had a kubota gas riding mower years ago - zero problems.

I would highly reconsider the FEL, especially if it's going to be a long term keeper. You have a decent sized yard and once you have a loader you'll wonder how you survived without it for all of your chores. I have a BX1500 with 48" MMM and FEL, less power than the 1870, but I love the little tractor.

20 year?A kubota will be a team player ALOT longer than that on 3 acres if taken care of. I pronise you that a loader will pay for itself 100x over in 20 years. I have used my loader for more things that a wheelbarrow would gave taken time for than i could ever recall. The $2k will come back when anf if you sell it, and the deapreciation will be less than you think. These scuts are realized as workhorses, and youll find things to use it for. Think the firewood you could load alone.

I bought my first lifetime Kubota mower 11 years ago. A BX2200 MMM with the high priced wheelbarrow on the front since it was going to be my last ever to buy mower. Couldn't believe that I had such a power house mower that I could mow with on my 5 hillside, rocky, treed, gullied acres plus tame the land with the wheelbarrow (FEL) it would dig like a demon, move trees, rocks, trash, a couch, more rocks, and more trees and more dirt and gravel and tree stumps. Get the FEL.
My neighbor built his house at the same time as I did. He bought a Cub Cadet and then a Zero turn and then a Kubota BX1800 MMM FEL after watching me for a couple of years. He later traded it to a BX2350 MMM FEL just to be trading, he had all the power he needed with his BX1800. If money is that much of an issue, go for the BX18XX with FEL. These are lifetime machines that can be sold or passed on and after getting one you'll never go without again especially if you have more than a half acre lot.
When the other brand trolls show up just block them from your page and you'll never see their posts again.:D
I've bought 15 new Kubotas and 2 used ones because I like them and Barlows has traded and treated me well.
Go forth and join a new world that you never really knew existed. If you do and decide you don't like it then you can sell the Kubota for about what you paid for it and especially if it has the FEL.

How are you planning to remove snow? You don't mention anything about a blade or a snow blower so you need to figure in more money for some snow removal device. Which device you get would depend on how much snow and how urgent it is for you to clear it.

I join the rest in suggesting that you add the FEL to the package. Cheaper to buy it up front at 0% then to wait if it is financially possible. I think that it is worth it, but then, I have owned one for about a dozen years.

Good luck,

I was thinking rear blade. I don't think it would be a problem with my blacktop driveway and the up and down Indiana winters.
I could get the 1870 with fel, or the 2370 with no fel. I would just prefer the 2370 for it's rear pto output for auger and such?

Any other thought about the FEL? The BX2370 with FEL and 60 inch MMM was priced at 14,500 OTD with 0% for 72. Or 12,000 without FEL..

I would bet... and I am not a betting man... you will regret not having the FEL. Do you like your wheel barrel???

It's very easy to spend someone else's money but the difference is $35 a month over 72 months. I will all but guarantee you will add it at some point anyway but then it will be a lump sum of at least $2500, probably more with Installation and transportation. Just sayin is all! LOL

Yeah, dealer quoted me 3400 if added later for the loader "package"

You cannot go wrong with either model but as said previously, you should consider the loader. I too have used my loader 6 times this year to clear my small driveway. Only about 150 ft in length and 3 cars wide but on a fairly traveled road. No problem pushing back snowpiles or digging into the frozen "wall" left by the state plow truck. The 60" deck works well and is easy to take off and re install ( 6 mins on or off).

Have you driven both models? Why did you hate the zero turn, too bumpy? The ride can get somewhat lively on some uneven ground but is definitely comfortable otherwise.

Let us know what you decide and we love pictures!

I know we have all ganged up and said "get the loader" but really, get the loader. Even a small tractor is just so much more useful with a loader. Your scrape blade will work for snow, but you often need to push back windrows of snow when you get the next snow and the first one did not melt.. Whoops.. now you need that loader. It is slow, but the alternative is making the lane narrower, and narrower.. Besides you can get rid of the wheelbarrow, the loader is just so dang handy to work out of. and move mulch, dirt, gravel, wood, tools, all sorts of things. Plus you will have on tap, some hydraulic power with a loader for lifting and pushing. You can get some forks, and lift brush, small pallets, junk in the yard. etc.. The uses for a loader never end. We all are never going to forgive you if you don't get that loader.:D

That will be $2500 very well spent, especially at 0%, as long as the payment is within your budget. Trust us, you'll be super glad you did. The FEL will bring a whole new level of diversity to your BX and the enjoyment of your chores. Go for it!

I appreciate everyone's comments and advise - I will let you know how it turns out. I'm still shocked I talked the "boss" (wife) into it! Promised to quit smoking - BAM... There's the tractor payment :D

She'll have so much "work" for you & that tractor that you won't have time to smoke! AND GET THE FRONT END LOADER for gosh sake!

The BX is great for mowing and small tractor jobs. I would go with at least the 2370. It is more power, so you can use more PTO implements. It has larger tires, a larger front axle and you can get R4 tires on it. I doubt you will not regret getting the loader. If you don't get it you probably will regret it.

Even forgetting about the snow... the Loader is going to do so much for you over the years. You will use for things you never imagined. Oops... sorry, my second post advocating the FEL... I'll shut up. :D

Wow! A forum for Buying a Kubota and EVERY POST from actual owners encouraging/advising/suggesting/telling/recommending........ buy a FEL! Can this be true??? Do they/we know what we are talking about advising someone that hasn't bought a SCUT before to buy a FEL.....everyone of us!!!!!
OK I'll step forth and say don't spend any money on buying the one implement that will do more than any possible implement that can change a high priced mower into a tractor. Don't do it!!! You'll regret every day those extra pennies, well a dollar, that you've paid for the bucket on the front.
Or could we know what we're talking about? Have we been there, done that? If you don't buy it, none of us will get our commission from Kubota FEL Sales Dept but I don't need the :2cents: I get for every documented sale I make anyway.
Again, DO NOT BUY A FEL!!!! Your friends and neighbors will laugh at you, especially when you drive over and help them, who own riding lawn mowers, do tractor work on your little tractor.:cool2:

Bahahahahaha johnthomas!!! I hear all of you loud and clear - I should find out today if my offer has been accepted by the dealer for the 2370 WITH FEL ! :p

Sorry man -- I am voting another yes for FEL! Get the tractor you want 2370 but GET THE FEL too! You will not regret it. it comes off super easy and you state you want to use BX for firewood - trust me - you will use FEL more often then using the trailer. You will find many other uses for it that you havent dreamed of, I know I did.
