Help Kohler 8 hp

I tore down the kohler 8hp well I only too the head off and the piston and rod out. I installed new gaskets , piston , rod and rings. I didn't remove the cam , crank or valves. Once I removed the piston and rod I turned the crank a couple of turns not thinking them I assembled a new piston and rod and put the engine back together. Cold I have the valve timing off by turning the crank. I believe both valves were closed when I installed the new piston.

As long as you didn't un-mesh the gears, you didn't change valve timing.
