I have been looking at getting a wood chipper for the BX and I know I am on the low side of HP for these guys, but now I am looking at the weight of the units. Most decent chippers seem to be around 950 pounds and if I read it correctly the BX only lifts 670lbs with the 3 point.

Has anybody else added a PTO chipper on their BX? Any problem with lifting?

I was looking at WoodMax and Oxxn chippers as anything else seems to be a toy.

I don't have a WoodMax or Oxxn, but I do have a Wallenstein BX42, which weighs somewhere around 450 lbs. No problem lifting it. The BX 3PH is rated at 670 lbs two feet back of the lift eyes, and somewhere around 992 lbs at the lift eyes. I don't think you'd be able to lift any chippers weighing 950 lbs. It might do it, but I doubt it.

I am in agreement withFirefighter on this one. For as often as you might need it... I think that renting a chipper is the sensible thing to do. No maintenance, no fuss, no muss. No large cash outlay. AND .. you dont have to worry about lifting and positioning either as most come with their own self contained towing unit. I have started using the local Rental Equipment shop for a LOT of things now rather than buying and having my own stuff which I have to store and maintain. Trenching and stump removal equipment etc. You just don't have need to own them as you rarely need them. Now if you are a contractor then that is different story. Just my 2 cents worth.

Your rental shops must be a lot better than ours. We got four within an hours drive from us and I just got tired of bringing stuff home from them that's not working right, not sharp, can't get it when I need it.... That's the reason I bought the chipper for the tractor and just about everything else I used to rent.
Now when I need it I got it and I know it's working as it should.
I have a Wally chipper on the BX. Lifts it for fun

Nice set up 4Shorts...!!! As for rentals its all about location... I have 5 within 30 minutes and so they keep stuff in great condition due to competition... Even have a Nations rent which does large commercial grade rentals too. Sure every now and then I have to wait to get a piece of equipment, but its worth it to get the bigger machine and no maintenance or cash out lay!!

4Shorts...is that the bx32 or 42 you have there? Looks nice...I took a look at the Wallys, but they are on the high side $$ and there are no dealers around here. I also thought I wanted the load shoot to be horizontal for easy loading.

I have rented a chipper before and it was worn out. It was slow going and I felt like I had to rush to get things done. You never know if the blades are sharp when you rent one and if not, it is slow going.

I foresee a lot of usage in the future due to the Emerald Ash Bore and a few other things and thought having one around when I need it was the way to go. It looks like they resale for good money as well if I grew tired of it. Storage is the only drawback as they are large, but I could work it out.

Don't worry to much about being able to lift via 3 point. As long the bx can handle it from rear pto, then it can handle from 3 point lift. Weight seems to go down when matching for lower rear pto hp.

It's a BXM32. It's the shipper/Shredder. Nice unit. Really happy with it. You've had the same luck as me when it comes to renting which for me is no luck at all

Thanks. Your lucky to have good rental shops. Last year I rented three stump grinders that were awful. Took two of them back and the last one had 16 carbide cutters that were so dull that it only burnt the stump. I removed and sharpened all the cutters and it was fantastic but it took me over and hour to sharpen the thing

It's pretty bad when you have to do the maintenance for the rental company, but that is what ends up happening all to often. That is why I lean toward buying over renting....that and the time window for use.

I have a BX25 and had a Wallenstein BXM42 chipper shredder. Great machine but too heavy for the BX. The BXM42 weighs 800 lbs. it could lift it but it was hard to keep the front wheels on the ground. Had to put lots of weight in the bucket. Better to rent.

I also have the BXM32 and it works great with my BX23 tractor.

Why is it better to rent. You bought to big a chipper for your machine :confused3: I looked at the BXM42 and knew from the get go it was way to heavy for a BX.

Been a long time and I stumbled on this old post. I bought a used GME 18P chipper that works great except on conifers which tend to clog it up due to the tacky nature of the wood and needles. I would like to find a source for parts if possible
